My favorite quote from this Bulwark article:  "Musk is just a neurodivergent Bond villain."  β˜ΊοΈ

An insult to both Bond villains and the neurodivergent...

“If you have a bunch of tech bros with billions of dollars and direct unfettered access to the vice president and the president of the United States, and then they are also very cordial with our adversaries as in China and Iran—we see that Elon Musk is having these meetings off the books with Iranian officials, with Chinese officials—what does that mean for us?”

What it means for them is that if you listen carefully, you can hear a regal Felidae padding toward them.

The NY Times - Special Counsel Report Says Trump Would Have Been Convicted in Election Case

14 Jan 2025

Jack Smith, the special counsel who indicted President-elect Donald J. Trump on charges of illegally seeking to cling to power after losing the 2020 election, said in a final report released early Tuesday that the evidence would have been sufficient to convict Mr. Trump in a trial, had his 2024 election victory not made it impossible for the prosecution to continue.

The department’s view that the Constitution prohibits the continued indictment and prosecution of a president is categorical and does not turn on the gravity of the crimes charged, the strength of the government’s proof or the merits of the prosecution, which the office stands fully behind,” Mr. Smith wrote.

He continued: “Indeed, but for Mr. Trump’s election and imminent return to the presidency, the office assessed that the admissible evidence was sufficient to obtain and sustain a conviction at trial.”

The Justice Department delivered the 137-page volume - representing half of Mr. Smith’s overall final report, with the volume about Mr. Trump’s other federal case, accusing him of mishandling classified documents, still confidential - to Congress just after midnight on Tuesday.

Not directly Trump-related but an interesting view of the west, or at least the UK, from a UK ex-pat returning from China:

He does harp on a bit, a whingeing pom from China :-).

Wow, his plane's wheels have just touched tarmac, and the first thing he does is whinge about the airport.

What a great example of "keep a stiff upper lip" , "Keep calm and carry on", "Soldier on" cognitive dissonance. The poms lack any self-awareness.

He must be fun when camping. πŸ™„

You know he's a Chinese shill, right? Look at this video titled "America CAN'T Compete with China's Infrastructure!"

"In this video, I'm sharing why America can't compete with China's infrastructure. China has years of experience building world-class metro systems, and America simply can't match that level of expertise."

I guess he never heard of tofu dreg construction.

Ever used US train systems ? I have.

The US system could never cope with the holiday season levels of traffic, in fact China rail systems are the busiest in the world, and the USA is donkeys years behind for high speed rail.

Does China have poor construction in places, yes 100%. But so does the USA.

So is this a better example of irony?

Complaining about privilege, somewhat privileged, and completely unaware of their privilege ?
My first class seats don't recline, heads must roll !
Red Queen much.

Or do we still go with.
Alanis Morissette - Ironic (Official 4K Music Video)

Britain could be spending more on its infrastructure.

Though its easier if you don't have to consult. There are only tenants rights on leasehold land.
Its not your place to question the CCP's judgement on where a nuclear or coal plant goes.
Not you place to know if that nuclear plant up the coast has a whoopsie.
Petition, protest you may lose your voice or more.

Free or affordable healthcare is not universal in China.
For low level workers and out of province workers that keep costs low. Or those made redundant in downturn. Health insurance and pensions on retirement may be problematic or non existent.

Like building costs.
His meal would be cheaper if people were paid less, less workers rights/benefits, health inspections, and oversight.
Elon and Thiels market of the powerful, while everyone else is on gig jobs with no benefits, modern 'day laborer's'. CCP and MAGA more alike than they think.

If you are living in a privileged bubble, getting CGTN junkets to promote China.
https://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-china-57780023

Its blue skys, spotless streets and great views all day every day.
Seems he has an exceptional if privileged income in China given his spending on return.

He can whine in the west, and is not silenced in a tiger chair in a police cell or worse.
Oh some ruckus on social media but as Asmongold says you can farm that and its a win. :-)

Irony ?

Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.

What's the betting on disruptions at the coronation?

And which part of that is wrong?  The parts of the US I've lived in have public transport infrastructure that ranges from post-Soviet eastern Europe to Africa (well, South Africa anyway).  And it's not just public transport, it's the condition of the roads, power lines, and other things.  For example staying with a friend in Altadena, a recently-burned suburb of LA, the roads were a mess of patches on patches on patches, muddy open ditches by the side of the road, and trodden dirt paths in place of footpaths.  The closest equivalent I've seen is rural towns in (South) Africa, although the infrastructure in the towns was probably in better condition than in Altadena.

And Trump wants to buy Greenland. With what? The infrastructure fund? If there is such a thing.
