Sensible American military blogger says control of the strait will require Trump to seize Qeshm Island and 35km inland on the mainland, and of course most of the coastline for a few hundred km. Gives a rundown of the military assets available to each side:

That seems optimistic to me. Clearly that potential plan would be 'step one' only and guarantees the kind of response in the region that is already well known.

Super easy. The US has a 100% winning track record against pissed-off locals with AK47s. Should be over by lunchtime.

Locals with AK47's , more like fiber optic drones, shaheeds, and more.
They have a capable small AA missile and Russian manpads for anti-helicopter and slow/low flying aircraft.

Given that Iran's paramilitaries in Iraq are getting things done, even with shaky drone flying
IRGC is probably looking forward to boots.

That coastline looks to be backed by rows of rugged hills, mountains, surely nothing like Gallipoli.

Unless there is an Iranian general who has managed to get a loyal following without alerting IRGC monitoring.
Ready to flip with sufficient forces when marines arrive.

@Senecio: I believe the world will come to its senses before it gets that bad.

@cddt: Hopefully. But I've read too many memoirs from 1914 and the 1930s to be comfortable believing this is the inevitable conclusion. Try Zweig's Die Welt von Gestern: Erinnerungen eines Europäers (The World of Yesterday: Memoires of a European) — there is a wonderful new translation by Anthea Bell.

Trump's potential invasion of Iran would definitely on the level of World War One stupidity, win or lose.

That whole thing needs to be urgently stopped.

Even the continued American and Israeli bombing over is on the insane level. Much of the 'technology' is entirely an illusion. It's pretty obvious one of the inputs for the so-called intelligent targeting system is an old fashioned phone book.

A good in-depth article:

The NY Times - Trump’s Threats to Europe Put Its Leaders in a Double Bind Over Iran  (unlocked link)

26 March 2026

President Trump, in his latest broadside at Europe, castigated its leaders for refusing to help keep open the Strait of Hormuz. “They complain about the high oil prices they are forced to pay,” he said on social media last week, but they reject “a simple military maneuver that is the single reason for the high oil prices.”

However impulsive his outburst, it pointed up a deeper truth: Mr. Trump has put Europe’s leaders into a kind of double bind.

Iran’s de facto closure of the strategic waterway has set off a full-blown energy crisis across the Continent.

With skyrocketing oil and gas prices angering voters throughout Europe, the pressure is mounting on its leaders to take more forceful actions to reopen the shipping lanes.

Yet at the same time, Europe’s political winds are blowing ever more fiercely against the war, raising the stakes for leaders to take part.

The military campaign is faulted by many Europeans, especially on the left, who say it is gratuitous, illegal and now is threatening Europe’s fragile growth.

The leaders also remain haunted by the Iraq War, which Britain supported, to its lasting regret. ...

EDIT:  What the Hell is “a simple military maneuver" in the strait of Hormuz?  🙄

New York Times is reporting Hegseth removed two black and two female officers from a promotion list after the command chain refused to do it:

https://www.nytimes.com/2026/03/27/us/hegseth-promotion-list.html

The Whitehouse is calling the report Fake News and denying it. The Guardian is reporting the story based on the NYT and listing other people previously removed by Hegseth.

FBI director’s personal email, photos and documents leaked by Iran-linked hackers: The Guardian

Iran-linked hackers have broken into the personal email inbox of Kash Patel, FBI’s director, publishing photographs of him and other documents on the internet, the hackers and the bureau said on Friday.

On their website, the hacker group Handala Hack Team said Patel “will now find his name among the list of successfully hacked victims”. The hackers published a series of personal photographs of Patel sniffing and smoking cigars, riding in an antique convertible and making a face while taking a picture of himself in the mirror with a large bottle of rum.

The FBI confirmed Patel’s emails had been targeted.

The US President has said that since NATO countries have not helped the US in its war on Iran, the United States may no longer have to be there for its NATO allies:

Al-JazeeraTrump: “We would have always been there for them, but now, based on their actions, I guess we don’t have to be, do we?” Trump told an investment forum in Miami, Florida. “That sounds like a breaking story? Yes, sir. Is that breaking news? I think we just have breaking news, but that’s the fact. I’ve been saying that. Why would we be there for them if they’re not there for us? They weren’t there for us,” Trump said.

Considering how much pressure Putin has on and near NATO borders that statement will get some attention. Trump doesn't seem care the treaty is designed for defense only. Trump can do what he wants as the president.

Its already won, winding down, on verge of ending.

Iran seems to be finding more targets with Russia's help.
May still have 2/3 or more of their missiles/drones.
Russia having constructed mega drone factories, selling Iran more.

""
While the G7 met, Iran kept firing missiles at Israel and Gulf nations on Friday, including a strike at a military base in Saudi Arabia that US officials said wounded at least 10 US service members, two of them seriously.

The attack on Prince Sultan airbase also damaged several US refuelling aircraft, said two US officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss sensitive military matters. One of the officials said two of the troops were seriously wounded.
""

Planes parked close together like Russia did well within range.
