https://www.rnz.co.nz/news/world/539929/hegseth-narrowly-wins-confirmation-to-become-us-defence-secretary

Oh great. A former Fox News host - possibly one of the worst people for the job - becomes the new Secretary of Defence, only because James voted as the tiebreaker at his confirmation.

This is going to be a disaster.

And as for the Ambassador to NZ, Trump says
"“He will fight hard to protect our Nation’s interests in the Indo-Pacific, and always put AMERICA FIRST,” Trump wrote."

Well can I just suggest that this ambassador stays away, I hove zero interest in what benefits the USA.

We democratically elected our government ( whom we and our churches  are free to critocise ) to work towards NZ best interests, NOT the USAs.

Just as we did in 1984 with the Nukes , we can say NO to the USA and say yes to what is best for NZ, and we should, we should deny this persons credentials as ambassador

Trump does NOT reign here.

neb:

quickymart: Finally, I wonder how accurate this is? ie, how many Americans who voted for Trump didn't really realise what they were in for, when they were only hoping for cheaper eggs?

I don't know if they voted for Trump as much as voted no-confidence in Democrats who have pretty much lost touch with the electorate.  You've got your guaranteed votes from the MAGA-hatters on one side and always-vote-Democrat on the other, but then a possibly sizeable group either voting against Trump (so Democrat) or voting no-confidence in the Democrats (so Trump).  You can see this in the presidential debate, Trump was, well, Trump while Kamala Harris delivered her usual word salad that would have appealed to hardcore vegans who were going to vote Democrat anyway but I doubt convinced anyone else to vote that way.

If Trump had been a better orator rather than a dementing narcissist the Republicans would probably have won by the landslide that Trump thinks they had, because there was no effective opposition to him (there was only ineffective opposition).

Had the GOP located a sound successor, all will be well. The Left or Right isnt really the issue as this election found. Its about finding a leader, thus this election failed on all counts.

I agree with the sentiment, but that would be counterproductive. Having the ambassador here means we can tell him in person what we think of his government's policies. Not that I think the Luxon government will. Or at least, I think Luxon is at least somewhat supportive of Trump and his policies. I wouldn't go so far as to say he's an out nad out Trump supporter, but he certainly won't have any problem sucking up.

The trouble is, Trump isn't even transactional. In a transactional relationship, you do something for me, and I do something for you, and neither of us cares about the other any further than that. At least it's a mutually beneficial arrangement.

In Trump's mind, you do something for him, and that's it. He's unlikely to uphold his end of any arrangement unless you get payment in full up front. If you're lucky, he can't be bothered to backstab you, and you just leave with nothing.

Trump goes after Russia with tariffs if no deal . Maybe Art of the Deal works?

Putin now puts lavish praise of Trump, smart and professional, opens door for a meeting.

Putin is an order of magnitude smarter than Trump. He will get the edge over Ukraine negotiations, sorted. Trump gets his ego trip of ending the war, sorted

FFS what about the victims who were invaded???

Trump was a property developer he understands vacant possession.

You forgot the Noble Prize he was cheated out of last time.
Plus it must be the bigliest and bested Nobel Prize of all time.

Putin has already planted the Greenland thing, agreed with Xie ?

So they can go, Trump you want your nine dot line around Greenland,
China wants theirs and Russia wants its old Imperial lands plus its Warsaw Pact back.

This is how multipolar works, you get what you want we get what we want and all go back to making money.

You get insanely rich and a Nobel Prize too.

Deal ?

Agreed, I did hear something on the news about Zolensky (sp?) of Ukraine saying that talks between Russia and the US are a non-starter if he's not involved - proving your point.

The war is not Trumps to stop.

The ONLY ones who can end the war is Russia and Ukraine, and from the Ukrainian perspective this WILL involve becoming part of NATO to guarantee Russia will not go back on its agreements (as it has already done with the Ukraine)

https://www.thebulwark.com/p/how-republicans-learned-to-excuse-political-violence-trump-january-6th-pardons

1. I support whatever Trump does.
“It’s the president’s sole decision,” Johnson declared on Tuesday. “And he made a decision, so I stand with him on it.”
That’s the authoritarian spirit. No matter what the leader does, his allies fall in line.

2. The pardons show Trump is a man of his word.
“He talked about that during the campaign,” Steve Scalise, the House majority leader, told reporters when they asked about Trump’s pardons for people who assaulted police. “President Trump is a man of his word. He’s going to follow through on his commitments.”
This, too, is the language of autocracy. The moral content of the leader’s threat or act is irrelevant. What matters is that he deserves praise for following through on his threats.

A detailed look (10 points in total) at how Republicans went from blaming Trump for all the violence on January 6 to minimising the whole thing after his pardoning last week of all the thugs involved in it.

Trump Coining the coin.
While we have the stories of betting inheritance from Grandpa on this, and people borrowing money.

The buying 100's of K  or a million is chickenfeed it seems.

Activity on the Trump coin had been as high ar $50 Billion dollars for 24 hour period, often over $20B !
Last few days settled down to $4B - $5B turnover in 24 hour period.

This is not small change unless I am reading it wrong, there is truly big money constantly going in and out.
Peaked $75 now in $26-$30 range, however the turnover is still in the Billions.
You can hover your pointer over the value and see the trading turnover volume.

Are Meme Coins a good mechanism for laundering drug money or something ?
Or am I reading this incorrectly ?
