Rumors and wacky conspiracy theories after Trump's DEI attacks:

The Independent: Trans Black Hawk pilot forced to respond after she's falsely identified as D.C. crash captain. Jo Ellis has served in the Virginia National Guard for 15 years and found herself the subject of thousands of false social media posts on Friday morning. Jo Ellis has served in the Virginia National Guard for 15 years and on Friday found herself the subject of thousands of false social media posts claiming that she was the third crew member aboard the helicopter that collided with the passenger jet, carrying 64 people.

At the request of the family the U.S Army has not yet published the name of the active duty female Black Hawk crew member killed in the accident. This is normal practice for soldiers who die on active duty. In some cases a family requires time to get in touch with close relatives.

quickymart: If Trump decided he wanted to hold onto power past 2028, there are at least four paths he could try:

  • He could exploit a little-noticed loophole in the amendment that might allow him to run for vice president and then immediately ascend back to the presidency.

Well that one worked for his good friend Vladimir.

Father of Black Hawk crew member Ryan O'Hara tells it like it is:

CBSNews: The father of U.S. Army Black Hawk pilot Ryan O'Hara said his son loved flying over Washington, D.C., never expressed concerns about the crowded skies and described the crew as "probably the most respected pilots that Ryan had ever flown with." He said any attempt to blame the crash on "DEI" only added to the family's grief and said no one in the Army lands a spot on a Black Hawk without being qualified. "You have to earn your spot to be moved into the ladder to be put into that helicopter. They don't just give it to you. You earn it," he said.

https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2025/jan/30/trump-low-approval-rating

No surprises here - yes his base loves him but not many others...and I think as his term wears on and people realise he can't do even half of the crap he said he would (cheaper eggs? getting rid of "vermin" immigrants without gutting the economy?) I can see his approval getting lower and lower.

Hell I thought Bush was bad...from memory he left office with the lowest approval ever, but stand him next to the orange buffoon and it's almost like the former is a gentleman!

Inflation is up, although IIRC, its down most other countries as the Covid supply/demand gets back to an equilibrium

In what seems like a year ago, Trump issued a vague memo ordering a pause in all federal assistance “including, but not limited to” grants related to diversity, foreign aid and “woke gender ideology,” and was designed so agencies could review whether funding was “consistent” with Trump’s policies.

Of course Trump has no time for details. and the memo did not specify which grants and funding sources would and would not get cut off, causing chaos and concern among many federal workers and grant recipients.

Trump tried to claim the matter of the funding pause was moot because the Office of Management and Budget rescinded the directive via a one-sentence memo.

But Trump's young and dumb Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt X/Twitter post contradicted him shortly afterwards.

"the President's Execute Order on [pausing] federal funding remain in full force and effect, and will be rigorously implemented"

A Judge saw it, and cited it. He said the “alleged rescission” was “in name-only and may have been issued simply to defeat the jurisdiction of the courts”

The judge ruled the directive was still in effect and the issue was not moot.

“the Court must act … under the ‘worst case scenario’ because [of] the breadth and ambiguity” of Trump’s pause.

Under the temporary restraining order that was granted, Trump’s administration cannot “pause, freeze, impede, block, cancel, or terminate” federal financial assistance to the states, and it cannot “impede the States’ access to such awards and obligations.”

So Trump's own Press Secretary provided evidence against Trump, because, like Trump, she's too dumb to STFU.

I would be interested to know the rate of resignations (hopefully not suicides) among Trump employees (i.e. not party colleagues) over the next four years.

He's trying to boot out staff left right and centre with a confusing "buyout" offer (maybe Musk is paying for all this?) but a number are basically telling him to get stuffed:

https://edition.cnn.com/2025/02/01/politics/federal-worker-buyout-reaction/index.html

When a US Department of Agriculture staffer based in Mississippi received the deferred resignation offer on Tuesday, they read through it, laughing because it was just “nonsensical,” and then deleted it.

“I’ve got my whole entire life invested in the federal government,” said the staffer, who also spent time in the military. “I’m not going to throw everything away.”

Also; I thought this was quite well done:

An old story from 2017, but sums up Trump perfectly.

In a family crest or coat of arms, the scroll at the bottom that contains Latin words is called a "motto scroll" or simply a "scroll". The Latin words inscribed on it are known as the "motto". The motto often reflects the values, beliefs, or history of the family.

Trump steals another family's crest, and replaces a single motto "integrity" with "Trump"

Right to bear arms? Trump accused of plagiarising family crest: BBC

It may not be the most dramatic scandal facing Donald Trump this week, but the US president has been accused of branding his US commercial properties with a stolen coat of arms.

Mr Trump's heraldic arms is a near-identical copy. The copy, printed on everything from golf carts to socks, made a single small change: where the original said "Integritas", now it says "Trump".

The Davies family who built the Mar-a-Lago resort that now belongs to the president, and where presumably he first saw the coat of arms. The similarity was spotted by Davies' grandson. He told the Times he had not given permission to the Trump Organization to use the arms.

It drew the attention of heraldic officials in Scotland when Mr Trump attempted to brand a new golf course in Aberdeen with the adulterated arms. They noticed that he hadn't registered it
...
An application to trademark the Trump copy was rejected noting the design had been lifted from an existing coat of arms.

A family coat of arms without genuine heraldic roots and not listed here is nothing more than monkey business. The Trumps were winegrowers in Germany from a small village in Rhineland-Palatinate, by no means aristocratic. Moneyed nobility doesn't count. He could just as easily buy himself a doctorate - that doesn't make him any smarter.

My son, on the other hand, would be entitled to bear a genuine count's coat of arms on his mother's side, which was still authorised by the last emperor at the time, but for various reasons he would never think of doing so.
