Trump at family gathering: "We’re a dumping ground. We’re like a garbage can for the world. That’s what’s happened"

Ivana Trump, Melania Trump, Melania Trump’s parents look angry, and quickly leave the party.

Trump: "I didn't mean YOU were trash. My mother, Mary Anne Trump, came from Scotland in 1930s. Guys! Come on! F__k!"

https://edition.cnn.com/2025/02/04/politics/trump-blinks-trade-war-analysis/index.html

A more objective view of the bizarre showdown with America’s neighbors suggests a blunter truth: Trump blinked.

The president vowed as recently as last week that there was nothing that Canada or Mexico could do to avoid the tariffs he planned to impose.

But he pulled back on imposing them anyway.

As markets tanked on Monday morning, the potential consequences of a North American trade war were laid bare. The potential for tariffs to spike the grocery prices that Trump was partly elected to fix came into focus. There were fresh warnings that the auto industry — a cross-border concern — could seize up and that the price of a new vehicle could soon shoot up by $3,000.

And Canada and Mexico didn’t really give up that much.

He also quoted the trillions US will make. If you want tariffs to make trillions, or to use as a tool against nations that are over dependent on the US , maybe just tell the truth.

I read a couple of days ago that the word 'oxymoron' is derived from the Greek roots oxys (sharp) and moros (dull, in the sense of stupid). The word oxymoron is itself an oxymoron. Isn't that cool?

That is very cool.

I would have thought that in reference to Trump, it would have been more appropriate to call him an Ultramoron.

US President Donald Trump said he wants the US to take ownership of the Gaza Strip and redevelop it after Palestinians are resettled elsewhere.

I guess the Palestinians that are left while he watched them die, can find another home............  :-(

I don't know what he's thinking if he thinks Palestinians will just "move somewhere else" which he sees as a nice big win for him and his administration.

Seriously, if they wanted to do that, wouldn't they have "just moved" decades ago??? What moronic thinking.

Maybe we should just move Maralago to some remote island with no services and see how the orange buffoon feels about that 🙄

Now his obsession on tariffs makes sense. That tax would go into a slush fund, with the innocent name of "sovereign wealth fund ". A pool of money maintained for unofficial, discretionary, or secretive purposes.

“for the American people” = "for me, Trump alone, without pesky oversight."

What is a sovereign wealth fund and why is Trump creating one now?: The Guardian

Designed to invest in the national interest, sovereign wealth funds are typically funded by countries rich in natural resources and it is unclear how a US fund would operate or be financed
...
Well-known examples include Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, the China Investment Corporation and Norway’s Government Pension Fund.

Trump offered little in the way of detail on Monday about how a US fund would operate or how it would be financed. Treasury secretary Scott Bessent told reporters the plan was to monetize assets currently owned by the US government “for the American people.”

The president has also previously said revenue earned from tariffs on US imports could form the basis for a wealth fund.

It's a standard far-right trope, google "eliminationism".  It's usually presented as excising segments of the population to make it "healthy", e.g. Mexicans, Muslims, (historically) Jews, etc.  That's as in relocating, not extermination, e.g. the Madagascar Plan was to take the Jewish population of Europe and resettle them in Madagascar, which France, Poland, and Nazi Germany all investigated at different times.  Maybe someone should suggest it to the stable genius to see what happens.

Mr Bezos, stopping Washington Post supporting Kamala,  $1M donation to Trumps inauguration party, with public ring kissing paying off?

Timu, Shein, Aliexpress etc now under attack, USPS refusing small low value < $800USD packages from China.
https://www.msn.com/en-us/money/markets/trump-s-china-tariffs-are-shutting-the-big-loophole-that-make-shein-and-temu-so-cheap/ar-AA1yq3lz

Shein's 50B pound float in UK stock exchange may be at risk, plus the 10% and maybe other tariffs.
