kingdragonfly: Donald Trump's task force to "eradicate anti-Christian bias" is a complete waste of time

His executive order on the subject didn't include a single example of this so-called bias.

I think as a non-US citizen, trying to logically follow Trump's daily brain farts for the next 4 years is a complete waste of time. That's why I voted for people who do this full-time and filter it down to the essentials and tell me officially in a government statement. Until then, I don't think I'm interested in which foot he just stood up on. 😉

https://thedailyblog.co.nz/2025/02/09/are-we-seeing-an-open-white-house-coup-occurring-in-real-time/

Historically, that is what coups looked like. The center of power was a physical place. Occupying it, and driving out the people who held office, was to claim control. So if a cohort of armed men with odd symbols had stormed government buildings, Americans would have recognized that as a coup attempt.

And that sort of coup attempt would have failed.

Bomber puts forward the argument that the US is seeing a coup in realtime, right under their noses - just not as obviously as the one described above.

I wonder how all those people who fell for the "I can lower your grocery prices right now!" line (or lie) feel about their benefits being cut (or cut off) now?

Just watched a documentary (dating from the first Trump term) called Being Poor in the World's Richest Country about people sleeping in cars, relying on food stamps to (barely) eat, queueing up overnight for the once-a-year charity-organised medical visit to their area, etc.  Pretty much all of them voted for Trump, because a vote for the Democrats was just voting for more of the same.  They gave various nebulous reasons for their Trump vote, but it was really just not voting for more of the same.

These people are facing hard times in the near future and you can't blame them for hope. I just fear that of the billions and trillions Trump wants to raise with tariffs, he will not think of these little people for sure and probably deport them somewhere (wait a minute, I remember that from somewhere in Europe in the 33-45s?) to make the streets look cleaner.

gzt:

This is the Trump topic and you clearly wish to discuss NZ primarily in this case.

I have shown that USA presidents and NZ prime ministers are clearly not equivalent.

I'd be happy to continue the discussion of NZ prime ministers in the Luxon topic, where coincidently various other statements from NZ's soon to be deputy prime minster Seymour are currently being discussed.

Yeah I'm not sure how it ended up in this thread to be honest - I clicked 'Quote,' did the usual, and somehow it got into this thread rather than the Luxon one.

No surprises here, he's flattered when it's good news about him, and goes on the attack when it isn't 🙄

Trump loves dictators and strong men, so while I'd love this Time cover to cause Trump to throw Elon under the bus, in reality Trump is a cuck.

If Trump is Hitler, Musk is Martin Bormann.

Martin Bormann was Hitler’s private secretary and head of the Nazi Party Chancellery, controlling access to Hitler and exerting immense influence over state and party affairs.

Bormann was likely the most hated figure by the German public - possibly even more despised than Hitler himself.

Trump-Musk tensions rising?: Politico
...
Musk acts as a kind of heat shield for Trump. Trump’s orbit is largely behind the idea of Musk using DOGE as a sledgehammer across government agencies, particularly those like USAID that have long rankled the GOP base and America First crowd.

Indeed, according to five people familiar with the dynamic, Trump is still very much on board with Musk’s agenda and has been gleefully watching his USAID slasher film.

The Guardian - ‘They will collide eventually’: how long will the Trump-Musk relationship survive?

09 Feb 2025

The bromance may fade, but the two megalomaniacs could still reshape the US as long as Trump’s fickle affections hold. ...

Rick Wilson, a co-founder of the Lincoln Project: “They will collide eventually. When Trump sees Elon causing political damage to him, he’ll cut the cord in a hot minute." ...

On the other hand, Musk is not like anyone that Trump has encountered before. His estimated wealth of $426bn dwarfs that of the president. He wields huge power and influence through X. He might prove harder to dispose of than previous lieutenants.

Charlie Sykes, a conservative author and broadcaster: “I don’t know how he solves a problem like Elon. He can fire or destroy anyone else. He can brush Marco Rubio off. He could destroy JD Vance’s political future with a Truth Social post. But he’s stuck with Elon Musk."

Late-Night Hosts Mock Trump’s Black History Month Remarks: The Hollywood Reporter
...
Stephen Colbert began his monologue by talking about Beyonce’s announcement she’s having twins, then moved on to what he called another “prominent person of color”: Trump.

The Late Show host played clips of Trump talking about the media as the opposition party. “What better way to celebrate Black History Month than to have African-Americans listen to a rich white guy complain that the world is unfair to him?” asked Colbert.

Colbert also jokingly revealed a different theory about the presidential Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. bust that Trump stressed was not removed from his office. “Trump didn’t take the statue out of his office; it tried to escape,” joked Colbert.
...
Wednesday’s Daily Show, meanwhile, Trevor Noah spent some time ... on his “Orange and a Few Blacks” segment, turning to Trump’s listening session with his black supporters. Noah said nobody thought Trump would even remember Black History Month, adding that this is the same person who left Jews out of the Holocaust Remembrance Day comments.

“We’re lucky Donald Trump didn’t come out today like, ‘I want to say all months matter,'” said Noah.

He also had jokes about the MLK Jr. bust, saying that sometimes Trump looks at it and says, “Obama, what are you still doing here?”

Nobody can say Netenyahu doesn't have the measure of Donald Trump. Gold plated kitsch, the more tasteless the better. And it would be difficult to find something in poorer taste than that.

The President of the USA cannot be removed simply because billionaires are appointed to run the country or runs the country in a way that people find objectionable. Even in the unlikely case where 100% of Congress and 100% of the Senate did not like billionaires being appointed to cabinet or some other action of the President - there is no power to remove the President.

Actually, anyone in America - or the world, for that matter - has the power to remove the American President. Having the means, or strong enough motivation, or the ability to do so is another matter, but that it's already happened four times, along with six unsuccessful attempts, is a strong indicator of the risk for unpopular leaders.

President assassinated: Lincoln (1865), Garfield (1881), McKinley (1901), Kennedy (1963).

President shot, but survived: T. Roosevelt (1912), Reagan (1981), Trump (2024).

President unharmed, but others killed/injured: F. D. Roosevelt (1933), Truman (1950), Ford (second attempt) (1975)

That was my reaction to the removing-the-mask picture in the Musk thread, he's not Hitler, he's Bormann.  But most people will have no idea what Bormann looks like.

A good idea to keep some obvious conjectures unsaid.

If Trump ever visits New Zealand, or if you visit the US, I'd expect a chat with a humorless authority.

I had a friend get a visit from the FBI on the tiny chance he was the Unabomber. Their first question "Are you the Unabomber?" I don't know what sort of answers they were expecting, except "no".

Yes. Wait! No - ah, maybe? S***. Er, I'm so confused. Could you repeat the question?
