Time to watch the pump price and shipping costs I guess.
Mr I'm-rich-and-sorted probably won't notice (or care) if they increase. But if you add on Mr-facing-re-election-soon, he might 🤷♂️
I don’t understand why people don’t just buy Teslas like Amanda does if they’re so worried about petrol prices…

Luxon, loose lips, I missspoke. fumble.
Audrey Young in the Herald today had a good (albeit fairly critical) review of his speech: https://archive.ph/JhIFb
Luxon was flummoxed at his post cabinet press conference yesterday after a verbal flourish which, on the face of it, appeared to switch New Zealand position from fence-sitting for the US-led bombing campaign to unconditional support...To test the proposition of Luxon’s switch from fence-sitting to unequivocal and unconditional support, one reporter asked him if he would support, say, carpet bombing.
That is when Luxon’s brain and mouth became disconnected. He gabbled and resorted to one of his go-to phrases, usually reserved for the times he has sown confusion: “I don’t know how to be any clearer, guys.”

Luxon says this thinking it's a strong flex, trying to shift the responsibility to the person listening. In fact it shows how weak communicator he is. Imagine the rest.

Luxon put on a terrible show in the press conference, at one point, stumbling and babbling embarrassingly.
Wish I could find the clip.
One acquaintance, a nat supporter, describes him as a terrible communicator. That's something we can agree on.

Quite a few commentators agree: https://newsroom.co.nz/2026/03/03/luxon-flounders-on-iran-as-opposition-pushes-for-principled-response/
On whether Iran’s actions justified the military strikes, Luxon responded, “New Zealand has long supported actions to prevent Israel from getting access to a nuclear weapon. New Zealand has long supported actions to make sure that Israel doesn’t – Iran doesn’t repress and kill its own people,” at least catching himself.
It would be wrong for Luxon to comment or expand on partner military tactics, actions or intelligence. Reporters asking the same question over and over with variations of the same question will provide a different answer or approach by this PM or any PM.
Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.
It's a common approach by reporters because it works. It's also used by investigators and cops to get past the first guarded response.
As we saw with Luxon, after repeated questioning, we found out what he really thinks. Nothing.

I'd say "Really makes you pine for the days of John Key, eh?" except Key is a Trump voter these days.

I'm sure Key would have been 'relackshed' about the US bombings.
Like Luxon, he really only cares about money.

At least Luxon did not start talking about the 'golden' drapes and saving money on curtains.
So we are ahead of the curve on that low measure anyway.
No one asked why we could not get Mark Carney PM of Canada to drop in as he visited Australia ?
Do some deals to decouple from unstable USA while countries are interested in decoupling from USA.
New trade groups on leaders minds.
Carney lands in Australia looking to draw closer to a Commonwealth cousin also grappling with Trump

I emailed the PM to point out that what their own advice warned them would happen was already happening, and they haven't even started.
Kia ora Simon,
Thank you for your email to the Prime Minister, Rt Hon Christopher Luxon.
Labour’s oil and gas ban increased energy prices, cut jobs, and increased New Zealand reliance on overseas coal. This means that even though New Zealand is experiencing an electricity generation boom, a rapidly declining gas supply has left our electricity sector exposed during dry years.
That is why the National-led Government will contract to build a liquefied natural gas (LNG) import facility in Taranaki in a critical step to strengthen New Zealand’s energy security and support economic growth. Having this facility is expected to save Kiwis around $265 million per annum, or around $50 per household by reducing price spikes and lowering the risk premium built into power bills.
It is all part of National’s plan to fix the basics and build the future.
Thank you once again for taking the time to write; it is appreciated.
Ngā mihi nui

During multiple governments over many decades the overriding policy driver for energy and infrastructure was the crossed fingers strategy. The last real decisive move was, and I feel physically sick to say this, Rob Muldoon's 'Think Big' Successive governments have fiddled and whistled with it in hope that nothing bad would happen during their tenure.
Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.
