The Washington Post - California sues Trump over National Guard deployment to Los Angeles

breaking

California sued the Trump administration Monday over its order to deploy 2,000 California National Guard troops to Los Angeles without the governor’s consent, a move with little precedent that has dramatically increased tensions between the federal government and the Democratic-led state, the most populous in the United States.

The lawsuit argues that President Donald Trump overstepped his authority when he called up the National Guard in defiance of California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D), invoking a law that allows the president to do so under threat from a foreign “invasion” or “rebellion” against the U.S. government.

Let me be clear: There is no invasion. There is no rebellion,” California Attorney General Rob Bonta (D) said in a statement. “The President is trying to manufacture chaos and crisis on the ground for his own political ends.

I guess now that the US has solved their deficit, homelessness, health care, and mass shooting problems, they have enough to waste on meaningless lawsuits.

Trump will be out of office, or become a despot, or dead of old age before this comes to pass.

How long federal lawsuits initiated by California typically take to resolve—based on prominent examples from the past 50 years

Minimum 3 years - Trump will be 81 years old
Maximum 15 years - Trump will be 93 years old (Trump's Dad age on death)
Average 7 years - Trump will be 85 year old

California has already spent $42 million suing Trump so far, and budgeted $35 million for future suits

It's likely PACs will spent $100 million, and the Federal government $50 million defending Trump

I wonder if this is just the beginning of the new US civil war...Trump strongarms the only state really capable and willing to become a sovereign nation of its' own, and will annex California and disband its' local government organisations.
Cut them off before they can organise and mobilise, so that he can create the dictatorship he has so long wanted.

"Trump would support the arrest of California's Gavin Newsom"

Trump is lucky that Gavin Newsom is not eligible to run for a third term as California governor. Under the California Constitution, governors are restricted to two lifetime terms.

Otherwise Trump has guaranteed Gavin re-election as Governor.

However it's not all rainbows and lollipops for Trump. A significant number of California voters feel Gavin is prioritizing a future presidential run over California leadership.

Hispanics represented nearly 15% of those eligible to vote.

I'm curious to see what will be written about the USA in the history books in a few years' time. Well, I was ashamed of what was written about Germany 1933-1945.

The sad thing is that Trump sees this as a win. He is acting strong and powerful, satisfies his narcisstic ego. Yet everyone else knows he caused it with his hardcore roundup of latinos, and he is escalating it with his troops

"History is written by the victors" -- Winston Churchill (???)

In the next major federal election will be the midterm elections on 3 November 2026, 510 days. These will include all 435 seats in the U.S. House.

There is also 33 Senate seats up for grabs. Many are in red or swing states (e.g., Montana, Ohio, West Virginia)

To flip the U.S. House of Representatives in the 2026 midterm elections, all Democrats need is a net gain of at least 5 seats.

Surprisingly Democrats already barely control the Senate (with 51 votes).

Historically the president's party fares worse than expected in midterms. Since World War II, the president’s party has lost seats in the House in 17 out of the last 19 midterms. The Senate is more variable, but still leans toward losses for the president’s party.

So I'd expect a true test of check and balances in 2027, with a even more angry Trump.

The long term outlook for the world is frankly iffy. There are too many unknown and chaotic forces.

Kash Patel, the head of the FBI, was speaking with Joe Rogan on a Podcast.

Notice that Kash Patel doesn't say Trump is innocent.

Joe Rogan read the Elon Musk accusation catching all involved off guard: "Time to drop the really big bomb: @realDonaldTrump is in the Epstein files," he wrote. "That is the real reason they have not been made public. Have a nice day, DJT!"

JOE ROGAN, PODCAST HOST, "THE JOE ROGAN EXPERIENCE": Jesus Christ.

KASH PATEL, U.S. FEDERAL BUREAU OF INVESTIGATION DIRECTOR: "I'm not participating in any of that conversation."

ROGAN: "Jesus Christ, that's a crazy thing to say. How does he know? Does he know that Donald Trump is in the Epstein files? Or does he have access to the files?"

PATEL: "I don't know how he would, but I'm just staying out of the Trump-Elon thing that's way outside my line."

ROGAN: "What the (bleep) are they doing?"

PATEL: "I know my lane and that ain't it."

Who on earth needs a clean slate on a vaccine advisory board?
