After World War II, Bracero Program (1942–1964) brought in millions of Mexican laborers to work on American farms.

When the program ended in 1964 due to political pressure, even though American farmers complained that no one could replace the Mexican workers. (foreshadowing)

The government went all in on domestic teen labor to meet agricultural demands.

The U.S. Department of Labor and local state agencies attempted to recruit urban and suburban teenagers to work in rural farms, especially during the summer.

It was promoted as patriotic or character-building.

It failed for many reasons, mainly that the politicians' and their children had never worked in a field.

Teenagers were largely unwilling to endure long hours, low pay, and harsh working conditions in rural fields. Some never showed up. Those that worked would frequently quit almost immediately.

Many teens, particularly from cities or suburbs, had no agricultural background or interest.

The teenagers did not like being transported in uncomfortable un-air-conditioned buses to rural location, with lousy housing.

Farmer found the teen labor unreliable and less productive compared to Mexican workers.

In California’s Central Valley, farmers complained most American teens left within days, overwhelmed by the intensity of fieldwork.

Some newspaper stories from the late '60s described youth workers fleeing jobs after just a few hours.

When The U.S. Government Tried To Replace Migrant Farmworkers With High Schoolers: NPR
...
Students from across the country began showing up on farms in Texas and California at the beginning of June. Carter and his classmates were assigned to pick cantaloupes near Blythe, a small town on the Colorado River in the middle of California's Colorado Desert.

[One student] remembers the first day vividly. Work started before dawn, the better to avoid the unforgiving desert sun to come. "The wind is in your hair, and you don't think it's bad," Carter says. "Then you go out in the field, and the first ray of sun comes over the horizon. The first ray. Everyone looked at each other, and said, 'What did we do?' The thermometer went up like in a Bugs Bunny cartoon. By 9 a.m., it was 110 degrees F. [43 C]"

Garden gloves that the farmers gave the students to help them harvest lasted only four hours, because the cantaloupe's fine hairs made grabbing them feel like "picking up sandpaper." They got paid minimum wage then $3.10 adjusted for inflation plus 10 cents for every crate filled with about 30 to 36 fruits. Breakfast was beans and eggs and bologna sandwiches that literally toasted in the heat, even in the shade.

The University High crew worked six days a week, with Sundays off, and they were not allowed to return home during their stint. The farmers sheltered them in "any kind of defunct housing," according to Carter — old Army barracks, rooms made from discarded wood, and even buildings used to intern Japanese-Americans during World War II.

Yes, apparently Trump wasn't there as a harvest worker in 1965 at the age of 19. 😁

Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar:
"The fault, dear Brutus, is not in our stars, but in ourselves, that we are underlings."

In other words we are not fated by the heavens or destiny, but due to our own choices.

If he'd stop appealing his sexual abuse charges, it wouldn't remind the public of his sexual crimes. But he's a petulant, pouty tantrum throwing child.

And why does "One News" keep using hedging language / weasel words "alleging."

Appeals court upholds order for Trump to pay $8.3m in sex abuse case: One News

A federal appeals court won’t reconsider its ruling upholding a $5 million (NZ $8.3 million) civil judgment against President Donald Trump in a civil lawsuit alleging he sexually abused a writer in a Manhattan department store in the mid-1990s.

Tragedy at the Utah SLC No Kings protest. A 39 year old Samoan fashion designer was shot and killed. This feels very close to home.

It appears two armed protest marshalls observed a third party carrying an automatic rifle move to a semi-concealed position and begin doing something with the weapon. At some point gunfire began and the 39 year old uninvolved person was hit.

The details are not clear at all and being reported differently in different outlets at this time. All outlets indicate the 39 year old was an innocent bystander. RNZ's current reporting:

The Washington Post - Trump had visions of Middle East ‘peace.’ Netanyahu had other ideas.

today

A month ago, President Donald Trump went to the Saudi capital and spoke grandiosely of peace.

Before a gathering of Arab leaders, he heralded the “dawn of a bright new day for the great people of the Middle East.” ...

With his penchant for ahistorical superlatives, Trump declared that, “for the first time in a thousand years, the world will look at this region not as a place of turmoil and strife, and war and death, but as a land of opportunity and hope.”

But the events of recent days portend more turmoil and strife.  ...

I'm betting the Greenland tourism office wishes American and French politicians would stay more than 6 hours before leaving.

Macron's visit was just a side trip to the G7 Summit in Canada.

However any press coverage is good press coverage. Tourism in Greenland for 2025 is twice as high as usual, on some metrics.

Unlike Trump VP JD Vance's visit to the pope, a visit from Macron is not a evil omen.

The NY Times - Trump Leaves G7 Summit Early After Signing Call for Mideast De-escalation

breaking

President Trump on Monday abruptly left a Group of 7 summit Canada, where he joined other leaders in signing a statement criticizing Iran, to deal with the escalating conflict between Israel and Iran.

Mr. Trump had previously refused to sign the statement, but decided to do so when the draft language was adjusted. ...

Israeli officials have been pressuring the United States to intervene militarily to crush Iran’s nuclear capabilities.

The fiercest confrontation in the history of the Israeli-Iranian conflict has entered its fifth day, with Israel still short of its goal of knocking out Iran’s nuclear development program.

Departing a summit that highlighted stark policy differences, the president posted on social media that everyone should immediately evacuate Tehran!

I think the may have been mentioned already: Trump's latest scam will be a mobile phone, and a MVMO.

What is a "MVMO" you ask? An MVNO is a company that provides mobile phone services without owning the wireless infrastructure (like cell towers and spectrum). Instead, it leases network capacity from a traditional mobile network operator (MNO).

Much in the way most Trump supporters don't own their soul, instead lease it from a traditional demonic portal operator (DPO).

Implied by the Youtube presenter
  • Run by Eric Trump ("there's no conflict of interest. I mean they hardly know each other")

  • the "T1" phone is a $500 gold colored iPhone knockoff Android phone

  • the phone likely doesn't exist, except as a low resolution photoshopped image

  • the phone is claimed to be built entirely in the USA, however the only American made mobile phone currently costs $2,000 for the same specs as a $800 Asian equivalent.

  • doesn't mentioned the processor in the specs

  • the presenter implies he think instead of being "made in the USA", it'll actually be Chinese made.

  • the scam mentions it'll have "more internet" (like the orange daddy says Tesla EV's are "everything is computer")

  • cost US $47.45/month (US MVMO's with BYOD phones start at $25 unlimited data plans with $40 considered to be expensive)

Jesus, has it really been 10 years?! 10 years of lies, bs, blatant racism, misogyny...the list (depressingly) goes on - and now a lot of Americans think this crap is normal:
