I agree on the performative or populist nature of politics today especially as it relates to Trump.

Artificially low interest rates feel good short-term and good for “likes”.

But pity those that work because it actually hurt working people over time.

If Trump is lucky, housing and essentials only become more unaffordable after he leaves.

Trump wants lower rates to juice the economy, by maintaining a willful ignorance about the long-term impacts of his decisions.

Trump is well-known for a short attention span. It seems for him an extremely long term view is limited to one month, out the outside.

Currently it seem impossible to get US policy based on substance, not ego or populism.

“Scorched earth!” Republican judge loses it with Trump
Brian Tyler Cohen
...
Brian, I'll tell you I can't do justice to [Reagan appointed] Judge Young's outrage without reading three very short quotes the first one the judge says quote

"I have never seen a record where racial discrimination was so palpable. I've sat on this bench for 40 years now I've never seen government racial discrimination like this."

Quote number two “I am hesitant to draw this conclusion but I have an unflinching obligation to draw it that this represents racial discrimination and discrimination against LGBTQ community. That's what this is. I would be blind not to call it out my duty is to call it out.”

and one last quote from Judge Young quote "You are bearing down on people of color because of their color. The Constitution will not permit that. Have we fallen so low? Have we no shame.”

The NY Times - Trump Will Decide on Iran Attack ‘Within the Next Two Weeks,’ White House Says

today

"Based on the fact that there’s a substantial chance of negotiations that may or may not take place with Iran in the near future, I will make my decision whether or not to go within the next two weeks" Trump said * in a statement delivered by the White House press secretary.

For days, Mr. Trump had mused publicly about the possibility of ordering American forces to bomb Iranian nuclear sites, suggesting that strikes could be imminent, while also insisting that it was not too late for talks.

With his comments on Thursday, he appeared to opt for some breathing room to consider options that carry a lower risk of escalation. ...

* perfect grammar - and therefore not written by the Don.  😐

Iranian General Qassem Soleimani was killed in January 2020, which was ordered by Trump.

Supreme Leader Ayatollah Khamenei and top military officials vowed revenge against Trump specifically.

In 2022 and 2023, Iranian officials vowed revenge sometimes hinting that Trump would be targeted.

Over the last week Netanyahu has made a few speeches and interviews repeating the idea that Iran tried to assassinate Trump, twice. It is a transparent attempt to goad Trump into an assassination of Khamenei and increase the chaos.

The Guardian  - Trump claims he is close to deal with Harvard

today

Trump says he is very close to making a deal with Harvard just moments after a federal judge ruled that the administration be blocked from preventing the university from hosting international students.

Trump wrote on Truth Social:

Many people have been asking what is going on with Harvard University and their largescale improprieties that we have been addressing, looking for a solution. We have been working closely with Harvard, and it is very possible that a Deal will be announced over the next week or so. They have acted extremely appropriately during these negotiations, and appear to be committed to doing what is right. If a Settlement is made on the basis that is currently being discussed, it will be “mindbogglingly” HISTORIC, and very good for our Country. Thank you for your attention to this matter!

"Thank you for your attention to this matter!”  Who wrote this?  🤨

Screw Harvard. Win.

Go into negotiations and end up where everyone else already was. Neutral.

Announce the Deal. Win

Mahmoud Khalil has been released. Trump I feel will comment that he is a risk, but thats ok, "we will see what happens" The latter phrase is the usual. He will walk it off, "I wasn't involved, but I will look into it"

Newsweek - Pakistan Picks Trump for Nobel Peace Prize As He Threatens Neighboring Iran

21 June 2025

Pakistan has announced its nomination of President Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize, crediting him with averting a major conflict in South Asia at a time when the U.S. leader is contemplating intervention in the Middle East. ...

The nomination comes just two days after Trump met with Pakistani Army Chief of Staff Field Marshall Asim Munir at the White House.

The Don really, really, really wants a Nobel Prize ... a lot.  A nomination is a very effective form of flattery.  😋

EDIT:

The next day, a classic headline 😐:

Reuters - Pakistan condemns Trump's bombing of Iran - a day after nominating him for Peace Prize

ISLAMABAD, June 22 (Reuters) - Pakistan condemned on Sunday the strikes ordered on its neighbour Iran by Donald Trump, a day after Islamabad had said it would nominate the U.S. President for the Nobel Peace Prize.

Watched an interview with media in NJ before boarding Marine One this morning. He gave around 5 or 6 examples why he deserves a Nobel Prize for this 5 or 6 instances. You cannot write this stuff

The Washington Post - U.S. warplanes carry out strikes on three nuclear sites in Iran, Trump says, calling the attack ‘successful’   (free unlocked link)

breaking

President Donald Trump said Saturday that U.S. warplanes carried out strikes on three nuclear sites in Iran, calling the attack “successful” and saying the aircraft had departed Iranian airspace.

The strikes targeted nuclear facilities at Fordow, Natanz and Isfahan, Trump said in a post on Truth Social.

A full payload of BOMBS was dropped on the primary site, Fordow,” he said.

Another "forever" Middle East war?  🙄
