gzt: Trump: “We would have always been there for them, but now, based on their actions, I guess we don’t have to be, do we?” Trump told an investment forum in Miami, Florida. “That sounds like a breaking story? Yes, sir. Is that breaking news? I think we just have breaking news, but that’s the fact. I’ve been saying that. Why would we be there for them if they’re not there for us? They weren’t there for us,”

Real quotes of Trump speaking in the first person "the beauty of me is that I'm very rich." and in the third person "Trump is very rich."

Here's a quote from Trump popular at rallies: “They’re not after me, they’re after you. I’m just in the way.”

Trump’s rhetoric is inconsistent but deliberate. He alternates between elevating himself personally and portraying himself as the sole protector of American.

Trump both stand above his supporters and speak as if he is them, but always talking in a mirror.

He’s always making himself the center of the story, even when he’s supposedly talking about Americans.

My opinion is that the conflict is escalating, not de‑escalating:

Iran is still firing missiles across the region, including at Israel and Gulf states. Iran continues large missile barrages, including cluster munitions hitting central Israel, and a strike on Prince Sultan Air Base in Saudi Arabia injured at least 12 U.S. troops and damaged multiple U.S. refueling aircraft

Israel and the U.S. are intensifying attacks, including strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities, steel plants, and civilian infrastructure.

The U.S. is escalating militarily, deploying over 50,000 troops, two carriers, and 200 combat aircraft to the region.

Hezbollah, Iraqi militias, and Houthis are increasingly active. The Houthis are the most engaged of these three.

Russia is not in a position to export drones to Iran. I suspect Russia wishes It could import Iranian drones (Shahed‑type) for its Ukraine war.

The Post cited U.S. intelligence assessments saying roughly one‑third of Iran’s long‑range missile arsenal may have been destroyed.

It offered no opinion on drones, cruise missiles, or short‑range systems.

I think Trump is in real political trouble, having kicked a wasp nest. I expect continued deadly news for all in the region and shipping problems for all the world through the US mid-terms, which are months away.

Trump really kissed the pooch: screwed up worldwide in an consequential way.

Also during the conflict leaders of two major groupings in Israel - Netanyahu for Likud (govt) and Yair Lapid for Yesh Atid (part of opposition) have both stated they are in favour of "Greater Israel". In Yair Lapid's case because he wants to get Netanyahu's votes if Netanyahu goes to prison.

That is likely to mean Israel will hold on to and occupy territory it gains in the country of Lebanon during it's conflict with Hezbollah.

That is not going to help.

The video is slightly misleading in some aspects. My understanding is the 'two million' payment was from Japan and covered a number of vessels.

Unprecedented numbers of US military are filing war objection papers that allow them to be reassigned or discharged honourably while retaining all benefits. War objection does not have to be religious. Many service members do not support this war or the reasons for it:

(bad title on this video because the predominant objection is not 'Israel')

"Contact the Center on Conscience & War if you’re in the US military and want to seek discharge or reassignment as a Conscientious Objector." War objection does not have to be religious and all benefits are retained.

Iran and associates seem to not really like Kuwait.
They get hit a lot and I thought it was just because it was close and handy.
More going on if you are going for leadership assasinations.

"
While on Wednesday, Kuwait said it had foiled a plot to kill state leaders, and arrested six suspects believed to be associated with Iran’s most powerful proxy group, Hezbollah.

Iran is waging economic war. While everyone was just attacking military bases the war was bad but the gulf would have bounced back pretty quickly.

It’s now in a place where there are medium to long term economic consequences for the region and globally.

More bad news on that topic:

"UAE has an active role in Iran war and will be pounded if US invades, Iranian sources say"

"Iran's leadership believes Trump's threatened ground assault will probably be launched from the United Arab Emirates, which may be more active in the US-Israeli war than thought of"

Meh. The article is weird. It claims tolerance to the UAE but the UAE has been the most attacked country, by a large margin.

I’ll believe it when I see it, all sides of this are spouting bollocks.

Rather than the article being weird I understand your comment to be directed at the direct quote from the official:

"According to the official, the Iranian leadership has “decided to end a weeks-long period of tolerance towards Abu Dhabi, after concluding that the Emirati role went beyond simply hosting US military facilities already hit in Iranian retaliatory attacks”"

Pretty much consistent with other statements from Iranian officials over the last couple of days warning 'neighbours' but a more specific version with a more specific threat of response or action.

US-Israel agree not to kill key Iran negotiators for 10 days:

"The US and Israel have removed Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and Parliamentary Speaker Mohammad Ghalibaf from their hit list after mediators said that peace talks would be dead without them, according to multiple reports. Ghalibaf and Araghchi were in Israel’s crosshairs when mediators from Pakistan, Turkey, and Egypt warned the US that their deaths would likely sink any hopes of a diplomatic end to the war."

gzt: US-Israel agree not to kill key Iran negotiators for 10 days

There was reporting that Israel agreed to pause targeted killings of certain Iranian officials for a short period, at the request of the US, to avoid derailing ongoing negotiations or diplomatic efforts.

To be clear, I don't like any theocracies, even if it blends in democratic elements. I'm not shedding a tear over the Supreme Leader, a high-ranking Shiite cleric's, death.

But what would Trump's or Netanyahu's reaction if Iran said it wouldn't kill their negotiators for 10 days?

Both leader's reaction would likely be outrage at the framing (“How dare they talk like that”), a threat (“They think they can kill our negotiators”), and proof Iran is acting like a rogue state.

Trump's long‑standing posture that Iran must show weakness. He escalates when he feels the U.S. is being threatened or disrespected.

and of course Netanyahu and most of Iran have burning hatred toward each other.
