tdgeek:

Some say its vengeance against Musk, even though the economics stack up, let alone the climate benefits.

Cross-posted from the Elon thread: https://www.cbsnews.com/news/elon-musk-trump-big-beautiful-bill-primary-challenges/

Looks like Musk is threatening to take out some vengeance of his own.

GOP congratulations on owning the libs, and losing your humanity. A pretty sick government post gleefully salivating at the possibility a person being torn apart by alligators.

If my neighbor posted something like this, I'd call child protective services.

A photo posted on the official X page of the US Department of Homeland Security depicting ‘Alligator Alcatraz,’ a new immigrant detention facility located in Florida’s Everglades National Park.

Trump administration taunts detained migrants with ICE alligators at proposed Florida prison: The Independent

The Department of Homeland Security taunted detained migrants with an AI-generated meme depicting alligators guarding a proposed Florida prison, what critics called a “horrendous lack of humanity.”

Work has begun on the so-called “Alligator Alcatraz” immigration detention center that’s expected to cost $450 million a year in the heart of Florida’s Everglades.

“Coming soon!” DHS said in a post on X Saturday, with the meme of the alligators donning Immigration and Customs Enforcement baseball caps.

Regarding the The Department of Homeland Security aliggator post.

During WWII, Allied propaganda frequently portrayed Hitler or Axis powers as dangerous animals.

Nazi Germany’s own propaganda primarily used human caricatures. Jews portrayed as lice, rats, snakes.

So what happens in hurricane season ?
Everyone running the place evacuates and comes back to whatever floods and alligators have left.

Probably just free Government money for one of Trumps club members in Florida, more corporate welfare.

It pretty much shows that MAGA and Trumplicans, along with Elon, Thiel and co just enjoy being cruel.

If you are not at the top of their meritocracy, you are just wasted resource.
Elons next green venture a Soylent factory ?
It maybe very necessary for Mars. No Soy for this Soylent to feed a generation of testosterone dictators.

Elons promise to give you the dystopian 'Star Trek' civilizations continues.

Evangelicals forgot Jesus and worship a god of wealth and cruelty.

CNN looks at what's in the bill for people:

https://edition.cnn.com/2025/07/01/politics/congress-senate-bill-tax-spending-trump-gop-explainer

Plus "It allocates $46.5 billion for border wall construction and $45 billion for the detention of undocumented people apprehended by Immigration and Customs Enforcement.".

I wonder what California's GDP will look like from the constant raids. Democratic state so no concern to Trump until it starts affecting the rest of the country, which it will.

A long article, worth reading - but hard to summarize:

The NY Times - Trump’s Finances Were Shaky. Then He Began to Capitalize on His Comeback.  (unlocked link)

02 July 2025

Contrary to the president’s assertions, records filed in a fraud case against him suggest that his riches were not the product of a steady and strong empire.

Last spring, even as Donald J. Trump’s march back toward the White House dominated public attention, his finances, largely out of view, faced serious threats. ...

... But the new cash has already helped solve old problems.

Going forward, the new enterprises represent a massive stockpile with the potential to cover legal judgments, mortgage payments and holes in balance sheets for years to come.

The Washington Post - Thank you for your attention to this column!   (unlocked link)

02 July 2025

Sometimes, strange little artifacts work their way into [Trump's] rhetoric, often for no other reason than that they unexpectedly attracted attention.

Here, for example, is something he wrote in March:

I just finished speaking with Prime Minister Mark Carney, of Canada. It was an extremely productive call, we agree on many things, and will be meeting immediately after Canada’s upcoming Election to work on elements of Politics, Business, and all other factors, that will end up being great for both the United States of America and Canada. Thank you for your attention to this matter!"

He’s used this formulation sporadically over the years but has really ramped it up in recent months.

Last month, for example, he used it on 17 occasions, up from 14 in May and 14 over the three months before that.

Thank you for your attention to this matter!  🙃

The ‘big, beautiful bill’ is one vote away from Donald Trump’s desk

Republicans overcame weather delays and infighting to clear one last procedural hurdle.

Oh yay 🙄 The Bulwark had a good rundown of how crap this bill is for the orange buffoon's base yesterday (it's just unfortunate that a sizeable portion are, well, too thick to understand how this will hurt them):

https://www.thebulwark.com/i/167262571/times-up-pencils-down

This last provision has been one of the most interesting to watch play out among Republicans online. As many have noted, the bill’s changes to Medicaid will hit many of Trump’s own supporters, who tend to be poorer and more rural, the hardest. But there’s been no grassroots groundswell against the package. Instead, many Trump supporters seem to be operating on the assumption—this is becoming a theme—that it’s other people whom the cuts will hit. Point out online that Trump’s own base stands to hurt from the provision and you’ll be swamped by a wave of MAGA derision: We see through these media lies! We know they’re only taking Medicaid away from fraudsters and illegals!

The NY Times -  House Passes Sweeping Bill to Fulfill President’s Domestic Agenda

breaking

The House on Thursday narrowly passed a sweeping bill to extend tax cuts and slash social safety net programs, capping Republicans’ chaotic monthslong slog to overcome deep rifts within their party and deliver President Trump’s domestic agenda.

The final vote, 218 to 214, was mostly along party lines ...

Reuters - What's in the Republican tax and spending bill?

Here is a summary of some elements of the package, with cost and savings estimates by the Congressional Budget Office or the Joint Committee on Taxation.

INDIVIDUAL TAX CUTS

Makes permanent the lower income tax rates in Trump's 2017 Tax Cuts and Jobs Act that are currently due to expire at the end of 2025 (Cost: $2.2 trillion)
Extends the standard deduction. (Cost: $1.4 trillion)
Extends and expands the alternative minimum tax exemption. (Cost: $1.4 trillion)
Expands the Child Tax Credit to $2,200 and indexes to inflation. (Cost: $817 billion)

BUSINESS TAX BREAKS

Extends and increases a tax break for owners of "pass-through" businesses, such as sole proprietorships and LLCs (Cost: $737 billion)
Full expensing for business equipment purchases (Cost: $363 billion)

OTHER TAX CHANGES

Imposes a new 1% tax on funds sent by immigrants to their home countries (New revenue: $10 billion)
Eliminates taxes on firearm silencers (Cost: $1.7 billion)

IMMIGRATION AND JUSTICE

Provides money for border wall construction
Funds surveillance towers, drones and other border-security equipment
Increases staffing for immigration enforcement, border control and immigration courts
Increases detention capacity for immigration enforcement

ENERGY, ENVIRONMENT, COMMUNICATIONS

Repeals grant programs for purchasing electric heavy-duty vehicles
Repeals grants to reduce air pollution, greenhouse gas emissions
Creates incentives for pipelines, natural gas exports and exploration
Ends tax breaks for electric vehicles
Ends tax breaks for clean electricity and green energy

MEDICAID AND OTHER HEALTH PROGRAMS

Requires able-bodied adults who have no dependents to work, volunteer or be in school at least 80 hours a month starting in 2027 *
Excludes some non-citizens from the program and penalizes states that use their own funds to provide coverage to them

* Note that Republicans deferred some of their most painful spending cuts until after the midterm elections.

Trump checklist:

Trump said his office was working with Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem to find a way to “put farmers in charge” of whether their illegal workers can stay in the country.

“I don’t want to take people away from the farmers and we’re gonna do something I think that’s gonna be good because we want all the criminals out,” he said.

“If a farmer is willing to vouch for these people, in some way, Kristi, I think we’re gonna have to just say that’s gonna be good, right?”

“We’ve got to work with the farmers, and people who have hotels and leisure properties, too,” he added.
