The Washington Post - In expanding trade war, Trump digs U.S. into a geopolitical hole

today

On Monday, the White House launched new salvos in its widening trade wars.

President Trump threatened to impose tariffs of between 25 percent and 40 percent on imports from 14 countries, including Japan, South Korea, Thailand and Bangladesh, unless they address his concerns over perceived bilateral trade imbalances.

The renewed tariff threats went down like a lead balloon in capitals across the world, including among some of the U.S.'s closest allies.

Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba described the developments as “deeply regrettable.” ...

"F...ing moron" springs to mind.  🙄

As I, and others have said here, countries will diversify away from the US, friendly traders will unite. Not in a week, but its already evolving. US will probably/possibly elect a very good GOP or Democratic POTUS, but it will be too late, not worth the risk. US citizens can rely on US manufactured goods, at their cost, literally. While Asia, Europe, Pacific, South Americas, Africa can be friends and trade like friends.

I had an incisive, screamingly unpleasant and uneducated experience with US-Americans today. Without going into too much detail, I wish the 49% remaining Americans all the best and as much distance as possible from the rest of the world and especially me. USA, you can't expect any sympathy. 😁

So, how's he doing after all his wild campaign promises, around the six month mark?

Also (but some of this has long been the Republican way, even before the orange buffoon came along):

Washington Post - Trump’s 90-day tariff pause got extended.

09 July 2025

  •     The latest: Today was President Donald Trump’s deadline for negotiating 90 trade deals in 90 days, a goal from which his administration fell 88 trade deals short.

  •     Now: Trump is extending his self-imposed deadline to Aug. 1, and threatening new, higher tariffs will go into effect if countries don’t make deals before then.

  •     Including: Trump sent letters to six more countries * today, threatening tariffs ranging from 20 to 30%.

*   the Philippines, Brunei, Moldova, Algeria, Iraq and Libya

Outstanding!  How to antagonize as many people as possible, as quickly as possible.  TACO.  😜

Is a TACO or a pause a deal now?

I'm sure that for Trumps Mafia contacts in NY, a shakedown was a deal too.

Meanwhile: Undeterred by Trump’s professed disappointment in him, President Vladimir Putin has escalated his war in Ukraine.

The Guardian - Trump praises the English of the leader of Liberia - where English is the official language

Donald Trump was basking in the praise of a group of African leaders on Wednesday, when the Liberian president took the microphone.

Liberia is a longtime friend of the United States and we believe in your policy of making America great again,” President Joseph Boakai said in English at a White House meeting before advocating for US investment in his country. “We just want to thank you so much for this opportunity.”

Trump, clearly impressed, inquired where Boakai got his language skills.

Such good English, such beautiful …” Trump said. “Where did you learn to speak so beautifully? Where were you educated?

Boakai seemed to chuckle. English is the official language of Liberia.

In Liberia?” Trump asked. “Yes sir,” Boakai said.

That’s very interesting, that’s beautiful English” Trump said. “I have people at this table who can’t speak nearly as well.”

That is so ... Donald  😳

Narcisists need validation. Reminds me when Trump called Namibia, Nambia. Unimportant as long as he gets validation, bouquets.

How unbelievably ignorant to not know anything of the involvement of his own country in history of Liberia. He humiliates the US every time he opens his mouth.

Trump is so self-referential, given the reading age of his language?

Trump said. “I have people at this table who can’t speak nearly as well.”

Who at this table :-)
Oh ok Hegseth was there maybe Trump gets a pass this time, or not?

This surely was self-referential though.

Trump: “Putin showers us with bullshit."
Freudian slip, ( Putin and showers ) Trump seems a slow learner, Putin thought you liked it?

Putin knows he will get more TACOs from Trump as he pounds every hospital, chemist, post office, random apartments and some old people tending their gardens for the satisfaction of terror he can induce.
