This is worth reading - with some spectacular images ...

The Washington Post - Trump covets rare earth riches, but Greenland plans to mine its own business   (unlocked link)

today

QAQORTOQ, Greenland - It is hard to miss, the looming mass of dark rock at the top of the fjord. There are circling ravens and towering waterfalls, but not a green thing growing on the outcrop. A Mordor vibe.

This magic mountain at the southern tip of Greenland contains one of the largest deposits of rare earth minerals on the planet. ...

Interest in the island’s untapped geological riches is soaring, driven in part by President Donald Trump, who has vowed that “one way or another” the United States must “get” Greenland, a semi-autonomous territory within the Kingdom of Denmark. …

Whatever the obstacles, Trump has gone full-tilt carrot-and-stick, alternatively threatening Denmark with punishing tariffs while promising to make Greenlanders “rich.” He has not ruled out the use of military force. ...

Keep on fuming, Donald.  😡

Reminds me of publicity shots for Roald Dahl's 'James and the Giant Peach' Disney movie..

Maybe this one might work for a new movie, 'Donny and the Giant Impeachment' :-)

EU says it will buy US$750B of USA energy products to replace Russian products. That's a lot of liquid gas:

https://www.nzherald.co.nz/world/eu-to-buy-significant-us-energy-to-replace-russian-sources-von-der-leyen/M35DMV5PZVE3NLNUCXRUELI6BI/

USA is addicted to fracking.

I thought this was a joke when I first saw it, but (alas) no, it's actually true:

Maybe Luxon will start asking for donations to help him out with "the cost of living" soon?

The Washington Post - The 5-Minute Fix

today

The Jeffrey Epstein controversy isn’t going away for President Donald Trump. In fact, it may be ramping up.

Three weeks after the Justice Department said there was nothing more to share about the years-old criminal case against Epstein, Washington is still consumed by it. Some MAGA leaders are accusing the Trump administration of hiding the truth. Congress has launched its own investigation. And new revelations about Trump’s long and close friendship with Epstein are raising questions about what the president knew about Epstein’s crimes and when he knew it.

Trump has uncharacteristically lashed out at his supporters, urging them to drop their obsession with the case. “Don’t talk about Trump,” he said last week.

But polls show Americans want to know more. A recent CBS News-YouGov poll found that 58 percent say they’re following news about the case “somewhat” or “very” closely.

A third of Republican voters disapprove of how Trump is handling the case, according to a Quinnipiac University poll - suggesting significant discontent among Trump’s usually unwavering supporters. ...

EDIT

plus: "the whole steak dinner" ...

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Georgia) posted this on social media last week:

If you tell the base of people, who support you, of deep state treasonous crimes, election interference, blackmail, and rich powerful elite evil cabals, then you must take down every enemy of The People." ...

Dangling bits of red meat no longer satisfies. They want the whole steak dinner and will accept nothing else.”

The Guardian - The politics sketch - Donald Trump

29 July 2025

It had been the very bestest of bigly weekends. Two rounds of golf at his very own course in Turnberry.

On the Saturday Donald Trump had broken the record with a round of just 18. A hole in one at every hole. Largely because there had been men stationed about the course to pick up the ball and place it in the hole. ...

So The Donald was in an expansive mood as he waited for Keir Starmer and his wife, Victoria, to pay him a visit on Monday morning.  ...

Keir and Victoria arrived at the main entrance, where Trump was waiting to greet them, along with a bagpiper who drowned out the first couple of minutes of conversation.

The Donald went into overdrive  ... taking question after question from the gaggle of reporters gathered for the arrival.

The US president is like a radio presenter on the graveyard night-time slot. Uncomfortable with silence. Filling the dead air with a long rambling stream of unconsciousness. Saying the first thing that comes into his head.

Needy - greedy - for any attention he can get. No longer just the most important person in his own life but the most important person on the planet.

Life doesn’t get any better than this for the supreme narcissist: he speaks and people have to suck it up and listen. ...

I recommend reading the entire article  🙂

Although that's clearly satire, the reality is that there is clear video evidence doing the rounds at the moment of The Don driving balls into the rough and his "people" dropping golf balls into more favourable places for him to play from.
He's like a classic parody of a dictator that Sacha Baron Cohen would make up. Only he actually exists and does the stuff that we laugh about in movies.

Wait, so the 'hired help' that Trump objected to Epstein taking that he said was why they fell out was actually an underaged girl they were abusing? It shouldn't surprise me at this point ...

Below the age of consent, 18 in Florida. Not that massage is a sexual thing. Surely it would be unusual to expose a person below the age of consent to working in an environment like hotel massage? Most managers would think twice about that surely. Even under 21 would be a grey area imo let alone 17.
