On the plus side, the U.S. envoy didn't say they should be thanking him, and wearing business suits.

In 2021, Barrack was indicted as an unregistered agent for the United Arab Emirates, UAE, making false statements, and obstructing justice, and using his Trump connections to push UAE interests.

Several of his dealing were mentioned in the offshore tax haven leak, Paradise Papers. It involved real estate deals and large deals with Abu Dhabi’s crown prince

U.S. Envoy Talks Peace in Lebanon, but Stirs Anger With ‘Act Civilized’ Remark: New York Times
...
“The moment this starts becoming chaotic, like animalistic, we’re gone,” Thomas J. Barrack Jr., one of President Trump’s key envoys to the Middle East, said after arriving at a packed news conference in Beirut.

“Act civilized, act kind, act tolerant — because this is the problem with what’s happening in the region,” Mr. Barrack said.

The NY Times - Trump wants to kill clean energy abroad

28 Aug 2025

President Trump is not just trying to stop the transition away from fossil fuels in the U.S. He is pressuring other countries to retreat from their pledges to fight climate change and to burn more coal, gas and oil. ...

Here are some of the ways the Trump administration is trying to affect other countries’ climate policies:

  •  The administration promised to apply tariffs, visa restrictions and port fees to countries that vote for a global agreement to slash greenhouse gas emissions from shipping.
  •  Virtually all of the administration’s trade deals include requirements that trading partners buy vast amounts of U.S. oil and gas.
  •  The administration joined oil-producing countries like Saudi Arabia to oppose limits on the production of petroleum-based plastics.

Energy experts and European officials called the level of pressure Trump is exerting on other countries worrisome. ...

Drill, baby, drill !  💀

Susan Monarez

The NY Times - New CDC Director Is Fired, White House Says

Aug. 27, 2025

The White House said late Wednesday that it had fired Susan Monarez, the new director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, after a tense confrontation in which Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. tried to remove her from her position, and she refused to resign.

Dr. Monarez, an infectious disease researcher, was sworn in just a month ago by Mr. Kennedy, but had clashed with the secretary over vaccine policy * ...

Four other high-profile C.D.C. officials quit en masse, apparently in frustration over vaccine policy and Mr. Kennedy’s leadership.

Dr. Monarez’s firing, along with the resignations of four of the CDC’s top leaders, will undoubtedly throw the nation’s public health agency into further turmoil after a tumultuous month ...

Kennedy is a fanatical anti-vaxer. Another million Americans dead?  (Covid 2)  💀

U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro, under the Trump administration versus the sandwich throwing protestor in DC.

Her quotes about the case, before losing the felony indictment:

“So there, stick your Subway sandwich somewhere else.”

“The police are not out there to get pushed around or beat up. They have a job to do, and they shouldn’t be abused in the process. Count on me to back the blue.”

Before joining Trump, she was very popular host of Fox News: “Justice with Judge Jeanine” and co-host of “The Five”

On Fox, she promoted claims of widespread election fraud after 2020, leading to her involvement in defamation suits with Dominion and Smartmatic

Thanks to her and others, Fox ultimately settling Dominion’s case for around $787.5 million

In internal text messages revealed during litigation, she acknowledged she used her show to support Trump and GOP efforts. For instance:

“I work so hard for the party across the country. I’m the Number 1 watched show on all news cable all weekend. I work so hard for the President and party.”

Her show faced suspension in 2019 for Islamophobic comments about Representative Ilhan Omar’s hijab.

Back to the case about the DC sandwich thrower, the judge knew something that the U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro didn't know: it's a jury by your peers in the US. And the judge knew a jury of peers in DC wouldn't convict the protestor of a felony.

Alleged DC sandwich thrower charged with a misdemeanor after grand jury rejects felony indictment: CNN

After a grand jury failed to return a felony indictment against the Washington, DC, man accused of throwing a sub-style sandwich at a law enforcement officer in the first days of Trump’s federal takeover of the city, federal prosecutors on Thursday filed a lesser misdemeanor charge.

Prosecutors filed the charges Thursday, two weeks after the initial complaint was filed against the man, Sean Charles Dunn, a former Justice Department attorney who was fired immediately following his arrest.

Dunn, prosecutors have alleged, threw a sub-style sandwich at a Customs and Border Protection officer one evening in early August, calling them “fascists” and yelling and cursing at the officers gathered.

Funny, I haven't seen Trump step in to save his former bro, Rudy Giuliani, or as Trump now calls him "Rudy who?"

Rudy Giuliani Finally Sells His Upper East Side Co-op: Curbed

It took two years and a $1.55 million price cut, but Rudy Giuliani has finally sold his Upper East Side co-op, his attorney told Crain’s. The former mayor and Donald Trump crony — who listed the 45 East 66th Street apartment after a number of legal cases, most of them stemming from his dealings with the Trump administration, left him “close to broke,” according to his lawyer

I bet Rudy rues the day he crossed paths with the orange buffoon now. Ditto for "lawyer" John Eastman, who had this novel idea that Michael Pence could (somehow) just "override" the electoral vote count in 2020 and "award" the election to Trump. In the aftermath, Trump refused to pay both guys for the "legal advice" (lol) they provided him:

https://www.msnbc.com/rachel-maddow-show/maddowblog/trump-lawyers-fees-john-eastman-georgia-indictment-rcna101223

...while campaign committees associated with Trump have spent tens of millions of dollars on Trump’s own legal expenses, at no point has any of those four committees paid the law firms known to represent Eastman, former Trump Justice Department lawyer Jeffrey Clark, former Trump campaign lawyers Rudy Giuliani or Jenna Ellis, or Eastman’s fellow constitutional law expert and volunteer lawyer Kenneth Chesebro. At best, one of those committees paid $340,000 to a vendor Giuliani retained in connection with Georgia election workers Ruby Freeman and Shaye Moss’ ongoing civil defamation lawsuit against him.

So much winning 😆

(disclaimer: Clark would go on to have another life in the second administration - currently he's Acting Administrator of the Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs).

Trump tariffs expected to cut billions from India industries and countless jobs:

"Al Jazeera: On Wednesday morning, India woke up to 50 percent tariffs imposed on its goods sold to the US, after the Trump administration followed through on its threat of doubling levies from 25 percent over India’s purchase of Russian oil. The White House says Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government, among the top buyers of crude from Russia, is financing Moscow’s war in Ukraine. Indian officials have accused Washington of double standards, pointing towards how the European Union and China buy more from Russia and how Washington, too, still trades with Moscow"

Almost overnight. The government has vowed to support affected producers. Imo that will not be easy.

Trump consistently refers to firefighters as “brave,” “incredible,” and “heroes.”

He often links firefighter bravery to military valor.

While praising individual firefighters, Trump has clashed with firefighter unions when they endorsed anyone but himself.

Previous Trump quotes firefighters:

“We want to thank all of the brave fighters. We want to thank these incredible people. The first responders, service members who are racing to the extreme peril, really, of their lives, and extreme danger.”

“More than 28,000 firefighters and first responders are combatting the fires in California, Oregon, and Washington. Over 230 soldiers are fighting the August Complex Fire… the biggest. And we want to thank all of the brave fighters.”

“I’ve done more for Firefighters than this dues-sucking union will ever do, and I get paid ZERO!”

A few of this week's cartoons:

The Epstein Circus with Pam Bondi as ringmaster (I note the deflections away from this keep coming, with the FBI doing its bit too):

The deflection (and lying) continues re immigrants and ICE:

Cracker Barrel's logo change (what a weird thing to get upset about) + RFJ Jr's crack-pot science:

and finally, the lies and deflection keep going around...and around...and around...

US tells Denmark to 'calm down' over alleged Greenland influence operation: BBC

The US has told Denmark to "calm down" after the top US diplomat in Copenhagen was summoned over claims that Americans had been conducting covert operations in Greenland.

Denmark's public broadcaster DR quoted sources as saying the aim was to infiltrate society and promote its secession from Denmark to the US, although it was unable to clarify who the men were working for.

A White House official would not confirm an influence campaign was underway, but said: "We think the Danes need to calm down."

Reminds me of the "relax" gag in South Park Trump to Satan

Trump enters Whitehouse bedroom, gets naked, and in bed with visibly upset Satan.

Trump (friskfully): "Hey, Satan."

Satan: "I’m not in the mood right now. Another random b_____ commented on my Instagram that you’re on the Epstein list."

Trump: "The Epstein list? Are we still talking about that?"

Satan: "Well, are you on the list or not? It’s weird that whenever it comes up, you just tell everyone to relax."

Trump: "I’m not telling everyone to relax. Relax, guy!"

Satan: "No, I need counseling. You remind me more and more of this other guy I used to date [ , like, a lot. Like, you guys are exactly alike." [Executed Iraqi President Saddam Hussein]

Be afraid, be very afraid ...

The Washington Post - The 5-Minute Fix: What happened under Trump this week

There’s increasingly a belief in Washington that President Donald Trump does what he wants, sometimes without even consulting his advisers. “I have the right to do anything I want to do,” Trump said Monday.

Many of this week’s actions - from trying to fire a governor of the nation’s independent central bank to cancelling billions in international aid that Congress mandated - underscore that. …

[headings only] :

  • The nation’s disease control agency is imploding over Kennedy’s vaccine scepticism ...
  • Trump seeks government stakes in U.S. businesses ...
  • A ‘revenge-driven loyalty purge’ at the CIA ...

Trump is a textbook autocrat with a huge ego, possibly combined with early dementia ... Mad King Donald.   😟
