The NY Times - Trump wants to kill clean energy abroad
28 Aug 2025
President Trump is not just trying to stop the transition away from fossil fuels in the U.S. He is pressuring other countries to retreat from their pledges to fight climate change and to burn more coal, gas and oil. ...
Here are some of the ways the Trump administration is trying to affect other countries’ climate policies:
- The administration promised to apply tariffs, visa restrictions and port fees to countries that vote for a global agreement to slash greenhouse gas emissions from shipping.
- Virtually all of the administration’s trade deals include requirements that trading partners buy vast amounts of U.S. oil and gas.
- The administration joined oil-producing countries like Saudi Arabia to oppose limits on the production of petroleum-based plastics.
Energy experts and European officials called the level of pressure Trump is exerting on other countries worrisome. ...

The NY Times - New CDC Director Is Fired, White House Says
Aug. 27, 2025
The White House said late Wednesday that it had fired Susan Monarez, the new director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, after a tense confrontation in which Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. tried to remove her from her position, and she refused to resign.
Dr. Monarez, an infectious disease researcher, was sworn in just a month ago by Mr. Kennedy, but had clashed with the secretary over vaccine policy * ...
Four other high-profile C.D.C. officials quit en masse, apparently in frustration over vaccine policy and Mr. Kennedy’s leadership.
Dr. Monarez’s firing, along with the resignations of four of the CDC’s top leaders, will undoubtedly throw the nation’s public health agency into further turmoil after a tumultuous month ...
* Kennedy is a fanatical anti-vaxer. Another million Americans dead? (Covid 2) 💀

Something else that Trump will do nothing about. (Spot the misplaced apostrophe?)

Harsh/accurate

I bet Rudy rues the day he crossed paths with the orange buffoon now. Ditto for "lawyer" John Eastman, who had this novel idea that Michael Pence could (somehow) just "override" the electoral vote count in 2020 and "award" the election to Trump. In the aftermath, Trump refused to pay both guys for the "legal advice" (lol) they provided him:
...while campaign committees associated with Trump have spent tens of millions of dollars on Trump’s own legal expenses, at no point has any of those four committees paid the law firms known to represent Eastman, former Trump Justice Department lawyer Jeffrey Clark, former Trump campaign lawyers Rudy Giuliani or Jenna Ellis, or Eastman’s fellow constitutional law expert and volunteer lawyer Kenneth Chesebro. At best, one of those committees paid $340,000 to a vendor Giuliani retained in connection with Georgia election workers Ruby Freeman and Shaye Moss’ ongoing civil defamation lawsuit against him.
So much winning 😆
(disclaimer: Clark would go on to have another life in the second administration - currently he's Acting Administrator of the Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs).
A few of this week's cartoons:
The Epstein Circus with Pam Bondi as ringmaster (I note the deflections away from this keep coming, with the FBI doing its bit too):

The deflection (and lying) continues re immigrants and ICE:

Cracker Barrel's logo change (what a weird thing to get upset about) + RFJ Jr's crack-pot science:

and finally, the lies and deflection keep going around...and around...and around...

Be afraid, be very afraid ...
The Washington Post - The 5-Minute Fix: What happened under Trump this week
There’s increasingly a belief in Washington that President Donald Trump does what he wants, sometimes without even consulting his advisers. “I have the right to do anything I want to do,” Trump said Monday.
Many of this week’s actions - from trying to fire a governor of the nation’s independent central bank to cancelling billions in international aid that Congress mandated - underscore that. …
[headings only] :
- The nation’s disease control agency is imploding over Kennedy’s vaccine scepticism ...
- Trump seeks government stakes in U.S. businesses ...
- A ‘revenge-driven loyalty purge’ at the CIA ...
Trump is a textbook autocrat with a huge ego, possibly combined with early dementia ... Mad King Donald. 😟
