Asteros:

Charlie Kirk was a brave and kind man. I quite enjoyed his calm manner and facilitation of much needed debate in a free and democratic society.

Charlie Kirk died answering a question about mass shootings by saying that too many mass shooters were trans: people who, along with basically everything other than cis heterosexuality, he has called mentally ill. He also said that mass shootings were worth it, constantly railed against immigrants (an odd position to take, given he isn't a Native American) and accused his political opponents of communism and voter fraud.

These are not the words of a 'brave and kind man'. The best that can be said is that I'm sure he must have died happy to know he had become one of those people who are worth it.

Brave and kind?

The college drop-out, has little right to speak about question anyone's qualifications. He was a college dropout. His professional life has been almost entirely rooted in political activism and media, never held political office, with no documented history of conventional “real life” jobs.

He said “If I see a Black pilot, I’m going to be like, ‘Boy, I hope he’s qualified.’” and "Whenever I sees a black person in high positions of power I always thinks to himself, 'I sure hope that guy is qualified'." He later defended it as “a logical statement.”

He was disrespectful toward civil rights icons and victims; demeaning to a historically oppressed group. About Martin Luther King, he wrote:

“As soon as King became idolized, the progress of Black America goes sideways. Their cities disintegrate. Their families collapse...”

Also

“Who was MLK?... A myth has been created and it has grown totally out of control... He was just a man. And a very flawed one at that.”

At an event, he called the passage of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 a “huge mistake” that created a “permanent DEI-type bureaucracy”. (DEI is Diversity, Equity and Inclusion)

For over 9 minutes, while George Floyd was handcuffed and lying face down on the street and calling out "I can't breathe", a police officer, knelt on Floyd's neck, asphyxiating him. Near where George Floyd was killed, Charlie Kik said

“Floyd was a ‘scumbag,’ unworthy of the attention.”

Lastly he downplays human cost in favor of ideology: "I think [guns deaths are] worth it. I think it's worth to have a cost of, unfortunately, some gun deaths every single year so that we can have the Second Amendment to protect our other God-given rights."

As a Democrat supporter I ask everyone a question.

Have you watched Charlie Kirk's videos on Youtube which have gotten millions of views?

Until this year I had not. After watching them I changed my mind about the man. I think both sides need to listen to what each other are saying otherwise it will lead to further violence.

@kingdragonfly I can only go by what I have seen from his Youtube but I strongly stand by my claim that he was a calm and kind man. He genuinely fostered debate in the highest of Democratic ideals.

Seeing this image for the first time in the context of everything that is known about Maxwell and Epstein is really sickening.

I can't say I've ever watched a video on Charlie Kirk's YouTube. Feel free to link an example.

Charlie Kirk, a very vocal ally of Trump, is shot and dies at an event in Utah.

That is an extremely shocking turn of events.

Yes that's right. As an "old school Democrat", I believe in doing my own research and then making my own mind up rather than swallowing orthodoxy whole. His videos are all over Youtube and Tiktok. They consist of him going to University campuses and debating students. His demeanour is always calm and his thinking is clear and he provides factual evidence. I don't agree with everything he says but he does not come across as a raving race-baiter conspiracy theorist. It would be good for many in the Democratic Party to learn from the way he interacted with people who had opposing thoughts or points of view.

Let me offer a counter example. Here's a video by calm and kind entertainer Rolf Harris, the convicted sex offender.

Bill Maher is a Democratic supporter but he gets to the problem I have with the modern Democratic Party.

Ironically, Charlie Kirk was often belittled by the students saying he was a dropout etc and he comprehensively kicked their butts in debate again and again. As before, these videos are all over Youtube and Tiktok.

We agree the killing is shocking.

Perhaps you have not seen Kirk's interview on his channel with the white nationalist type Steve Sailer. I don't think anyone could describe that interview as an example of Kirk's clear thinking. Kirk opened his show by praising Sailer and describing him as “incredibly interesting, and one of the most talented noticers in the country.” Kirk repeatedly used the terms “noticing” and “noticing things” throughout his interview with Sailer. That is not clear thinking. I'm not going to link to the video example because it's basically disgusting and the whole 'noticing' thing is closely aligned with if not exactly identical with racist conspiracy type carryon.

I enjoyed watching Kirks debates, not so much for the content, but more for the style and passion.

Like Jordan B Peterson, Ben Shapiro etc, much of the content is heavily politicized and polarizing, but his defense of the right to debate and question topics is what stood out. Some of his views were very hardline (no justifiable abortion for example), but he was always gracious / courteous regardless of how his "opponent" was acting. I enjoyed his (and Petersons) debating style, bringing arguments that could be objectively measured and frequently the person on the other side had little more than emotive and/or incorrect assumptions.

I also enjoyed that he challenged academia and the whole education system. Even in my own degree, of the 18 papers I had to complete, approximately 1/2 were subjective and somewhat repetitive. He questioned the breadth of degrees at University and the potential future value of that degree measured against the cost (tens of thousands of dollars spent to do what?)

Regardless of views on whether or not you agree politically with him, its a sad day for his family

Sorry, but when I see he made quotes like this:

...(as the others above have said) "kind" isn't exactly the first word that springs to mind to describe him.

As to all those Democratic politicians you mention, they have a level of decency and morals, hence why they are expressing their condolences on his death. There's no comparison, IMO.
