Who knew.

Support for school busses, that Government has been withdrawing from.
Reduces of fuel consumption and can fight decrease in school attendance.

Next generation critical to our future.
Those who worry about demographic collapse should care more than ever that every child gets the best education we can.

Except for these idiots.

The MPs should be served the same lunch that they deem fit for our kids to eat.

Luxon achievements, I kicked the can down the road all term.

No economic cost to kicking the can down the road on mini-ferries that are getting more expensive.

Three waters, we can just kick the can down that road on that too.
One example but many communities are struggling with 1 , 2 or all 3 of their waters.
https://www.rnz.co.nz/news/national/590521/wellingtonians-face-average-2400-water-bill-next-year-massive-increases-to-follow

Market will sort the countries energy costs, while companies downsize. Who needs frozen food or sawn timber anyways.
https://www.rnz.co.nz/national/programmes/afternoons/audio/2019028388/what-s-our-plan-if-nz-sees-disruption-in-food-chain-supplies

Managed to enshitify school lunches and give the money desperately needed to charter schools.

I mean who else do they want to pay for this? This is a genuine question. Auckland has had metering for years and it's still being rolled out in parts of Wellington as part of a five year plan. We have our own network challenges and a city that's taken on much more population growth. Making other parts of the country chip in so that Wellington can have cheaper water seems like a bad deal for the rest of us.

$2400 annually has to be near the level where you install a tank to collect rainwater from the roof gutters surely?

Although I guess you would naturally still have to pay half of that for disposal of your wastewater.

Even if that kind of flexibility was provided to ratepayers which it probably isn't.

On waters.

Yeh well yes Wellington should be able to look after itself given income base.
More a topical news example that a relatively rich city is in the poo, what about the rest.

Smaller cities and towns that really do need the help are in a much worse situation due to income base.
May also have them not engaging best technical capability to scope and such.

While everyone wants to control their own stuff combining resource/expertise with others may be most economic.

You'll find most councils still have you over the proverbial barrel.

I'm on tank water, and septic tanks. However, as the town water main runs past my front boundary, I still have a water component in my rates. I'm not connected to the town water supply, and yet I still get no choice but to pay for my "allocation". There is a fee to pay if I wish to be connected too.

From the 2026 Fuel Prices thread,

dafman:

Aussies halving fuel tax for three months to lower price.

That's communism and wouldn't fly here in New Zealand with a National/First/Act government...

https://www.rnz.co.nz/news/top/591007/fuel-crisis-auckland-mayor-says-government-should-promote-public-transport-over-driving

Aucklanders pay a maximum of $50 a week for buses and trains. Brown suggested the government could lower the Auckland Transport HOP card fare cap to $40 while petrol prices are high.

"Subsidising it a bit more would've been a better spend, and it would've been cheaper and got a better result."

He said that getting people out of their cars would also help reduce congestion in busy metropolitan centres like Auckland.

"To pay people to carry on doing exactly what they did before, when we know it's not a good idea to have everyone driving into the city, strikes me as dumb, really."

I didn't vote for Brown but on this one I actually agree with him, mostly his comments in bold.

Fix for health support workers coming. A little late but so much better than never.

"Health Minister Simeon Brown says the Government is “urgently” looking for a temporary fix to help out-of-pocket community and in-home support workers who are having to pay for fuel to do their jobs. Support workers, who are often paid just above minimum wage, have to pay for the fuel they use at work and aren’t fully reimbursed for the cost. Workers who spoke to Stuff this week said they’re paying an extra $35 to $60 each week out of their own pocket."
