Handsomedan:

My firm belief is that the American Government should be voted in democratically, without the nonsense and gerrymandering we see.
I think the best way to do this is to have the whole system managed by a neutral third party.

Get the Swiss to deal with it, or the good people of Southland.

A constitutional amendment to require the president to appoint a cabinet from members of the Congress and Senate would create some kind of accountability. At least then the members of the administration have some kind of ongoing electoral accountability for their performance. It would not be perfect but over time it would perform a lot better than a collection of unaccountable random idiots.

The President has the ability to appoint those guys anyway and didn't. Is is not perfect but very likely to raise the bar over time in Congress and the Senate.

Exactly. At least if the cabinet is appointed from members of Congress and Senate there is some kind of electoral accountability at the end of the day.

Sounds good but I remember the orange buffoon wanted to put Elise Stefanik forward for the United Nations (from memory). When he realised that would cause a by-election in New York - a very blue state, which Republicans would most likely lose, therefore threatening their very thin majority in the House, he withdrew her nomination.

She was all set to go to, but had to go back to her old job so the Republicans could keep their narrow majority.

Cabinet is within the United States government. No need to leave Congress or Senate. Ambassador is a different job reporting back to the Secretary of State in cabinet.

Secret Service dismantles telecom threat around UN capable of crippling cell service in NYC

CNBC: U.S. Secret Service was quietly dismantling a massive hidden telecom network across the New York area — a system investigators say could have crippled cell towers, jammed 911 calls and flooded networks with chaos at the very moment the city was most vulnerable. The cache, made up of more than 300 SIM servers packed with over 100,000 SIM cards and clustered within 35 miles of the United Nations, represents one of the most sweeping communications threats uncovered on U.S. soil. Investigators warn the system could have blacked out cellular service in a city that relies on it not only for daily life but for emergency response and counterterrorism.

There is really only one nation state prime minister with motive to disrupt UN related communications and disrupt sessions where several countries will recognize Palestine. But, who knows.

BBC News - Six years ago Trump's UN audience laughed, this year they were silent

today

Donald Trump's speech to the United Nations was one of the clearest expositions of the way he sees the world, his ideology in its rawest form.

To his supporters, it will be seen as Trumpism unplugged; to his critics, Trumpism unhinged.

Over almost an hour, he took aim at his opponents and their ideas, picking them off one by one as he toured the world. He began at home, praising the United States and himself.

He said the US was living through a golden age and repeated his much-disputed claim that he had personally ended seven wars, something he argued merited a Nobel Peace Prize.

But then the president laid into his hosts. The UN, he said, had not helped his peace-making. He questioned the organisation's purpose, saying it had tremendous potential but was not living up to that. ...

Climate change, he claimed to audible gasps, was "the greatest con job ever perpetrated on the world" and was lumbering European countries with expensive energy costs compared to fossil fuels. ...

"If you don't get away from the green energy scam, your country is going to fail," he said. ...

Six years ago Trump's audience at the UN laughed at his at times unfactual assertions; this year they listened largely in silence.

"I am really good at this stuff," he told world leaders. "Your countries are going to hell."
