USDA cancels survey tracking how many Americans struggle to get enough food: NPR

The United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) under the administration of President Trump announced on Saturday that it will end a longstanding annual food insecurity survey, calling it "redundant, costly, politicized, and extraneous."

The Household Food Security Report provides yearly data on the lack of access to adequate nutrition for low-income Americans, and helps shape policy on how to combat food insecurity and hunger.

The USDA's announcement comes after Trump signed the One Big Beautiful Bill Act into law this summer, which expands the work requirements for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, or SNAP. This, in effect, will leave an estimated 2.4 million Americans without food aid.

https://www.yahoo.com/news/politics/article/poll-gavin-newsom-leads-2028-democratic-primary-field-edges-out-trump-in-head-to-head-matchup-180307176.html?guccounter=1

The survey of 1,690 U.S. adults, which was conducted from Aug. 29 to Sept. 2, also finds that if the 2028 general election were “held today,” 49% of registered voters say they would cast their ballots for Newsom — while only 41% say they would choose Trump.

This is interesting, although any poll this far out from an election is never going to give a final result. Still, if this trend continues, the orange buffoon will start getting worried (I hope).

Apparently he leaves all his sheets and towels stained orange and bins full of fried chicken and chips boxes.

It was takeout boxes, tanning sprays and hair products everywhere,” the purported source supposedly said. “The bathroom was littered with bottles, the sinks stained, and his bed sheets had been left completely orange from whatever he uses. People were horrified. This was Windsor Castle, not a roadside motel.

Trump's not the first American President to visit Windsor Castle, but he is the first one where they had to throw out the couch.

Is it sweet irony that Trump needs to cooperation of at least one willing women to keep his alleged sex crimes under wrap?

Speaker Mike Johnson's not too happy either.

Trump scrambles to sway Marjorie Taylor Greene, Boebert or Mace on Epstein files as House now has enough votes to force release within days: The independent

President Donald Trump is reportedly scrambling to sway the three Republican congresswomen who signed the petition to force a vote ordering the release of all government files related to Jeffrey Epstein.

And Republican leaders in the House of Representatives are trying to stop the vote from happening now that enough members of Congress have signed a measure to force a full floor vote and Democrats recently gained a deciding vote on the measure.

Reps. Thomas Massie (R-Ky.) and Ro Khanna (D-Calif.) put forth a bipartisan discharge petition to release files related to the late convicted sex offender and pedophile. A discharge petition needs to receive the signatures of a majority of members to force a vote without the consent of leadership.

Massie said he did not think House Speaker Mike Johnson would block the final vote.

“If he does, that’s the cover-up right there,” Massie told The Independent last week before the House left for the Jewish high holidays. “He’d better served and serve this party better to go ahead and have this vote or for the 218th signature be a Republican.”

There has been a shooting at a Mormon church, where 4 people were killed, and the church set on fire.

The shooter was named as as Thomas Jacob Sanford, a 40-year-old ex-Marine.

He had a Trump sign outside his house.

Per public records, he had signed conservative-leaning petitions, such as efforts to repeal Michigan’s pandemic emergency powers, and to ban a certain abortion procedure.

While not directly implicating the left-wing, President Donald Trump in a statement on Truth Social said that the shooting "appears to be yet another targeted attack on Christians in the United States of America. THIS EPIDEMIC OF VIOLENCE IN OUR COUNTRY MUST END, IMMEDIATELY!"

Trump has a strong pattern that phrases like “targeted attack on Christians” are often followed by blaming groups he perceives as hostile to Christianity: Democrats and “the radical left”, antifa, anarchists, immigrants or Muslims.

Trump’s rhetoric tends to elevate attacks on Christians / conservatives as emblematic of societal decline. At the same time he downplays violence where Christians/conservatives are the perpetrators.

He very much creates a narrative that his base is uniquely persecuted.

This most recent shooting shows yet again gun-toting Americans have diverse targets for violence.

This is obviously AI-generated, but I thought it was quite clever (although I reckon Gavin's face isn't quite accurate) 😀

I'm hoping no one in this forum has heard about "med-beds".

It's a right-wing scam. The leaders typically say they are in contact with aliens / god.

They falsely claim that Any day now, everyone will be given access to a magical bed, that can do everything from growing back missing limbs, re-arranging your organs, reduce your weight by 25% in one 30 minute session, cure everything from spina bifida to regrow hair, de-age you by 15 years per sitting. It will even remove tattoos, and piercings.

The concerning thing about the following story is it implies a con artist may have gotten access to Trump's official Truth Social channel.

I know Trump is insane and a con artist, but I don't think he's post an AI video of himself on Truth Social to his official channel.

Trump posts, then pulls bizarre AI video promoting MedBed conspiracy: The Verge

Donald Trump is no stranger to outlandish conspiracies or strange social media posts. But, by any measure, his post on Saturday night was particularly bizarre. The president posted (and later removed) a clip on Truth Social of a fake Fox News segment with Lara Trump detailing the White House’s announcement of the world’s first MedBed hospital and a national MedBed card system (two things that very much do not exist). Fox News told The Verge that the MedBed segment, “never aired on Fox News Channel or any other Fox News Media platforms.”

There was no additional context, no text to explain things.

Depressing to see what's happened to the Republican Party under Trump. I wager if someone like Reagan - or maybe even Bush's Dad - could see this (rather lengthy) list they would probably both be horrified:
