gzt: New York Times details the arguments over the shutdown:

https://www.nytimes.com/2025/10/07/us/politics/shutdown-trump-health-care-subsidies.html

Continuing the health policy will cost approximately $350 Billion over 10 years - sounds like a lot of money but very small when compared to other budget areas and Elon Musk's $1000 Billion bonus.

I think they spend more than that on the military every year.

I suppose the tax cuts for wealthy, and America not dealing with its tax avoidance of its large corporations. Does not help.

Well $350B over 10 years is $35B per year for health programs.
Considering the large number of people it benefits.
Including employers who benefit from employees getting healthcare to keep working.
Landlords as people who can keep working with lower health costs have more to spend on rent.
Real Estate market similarly.
The whole consumer society that many wealthy of USA rely on being spendy.

Americas farm subsidies for commodity crops, corn, soy beans, barley etc can be larger.
Socialism for me but not for thee. :-)

https://www.aei.org/research-products/report/examining-support-for-us-farmers-the-2025-ad-hoc-economic-assistance-programs/

""
Table 1 lists recent federal payment totals by category. The $42.42 billion in total government payments to farmers forecast for 2025 is notable, as it exceeds payments in all other years except 2020, when farmers received significant ad hoc payments largely associated with the first Trump administration’s COVID pandemic recovery initiatives.
""

Democrats were supporting schemes for small farmers, school food programs, SNAP etc.
Trump/Elon/GOP have been cutting those. Trump has never cared for little people.

Trumps rich farming conglomerate friends benefit from small farms going on the market for cheap.
So silver lining for some. :-)

gzt: loud audience booing and screaming when Witkoff tried to thank Netanyahu

“oy gevalt!”: a classic Yiddish exclamation.

Oy = “Oh!”, “Woe!”,a general cry of dismay, pain, or surprise.

Gevalt = “Heavens!”, “Help!”, “Oh no!”, or “Good grief!”

First her continued support of the release of all Epstein's files, now supporting Obamacare.

She's like the The Frog Prince in the Brothers Grimm fairy tale.

Georgia voters react as Marjorie Taylor Greene backs Obamacare subsidies during shutdown: CBS news

As the government shutdown enters its 13th day, Georgia Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene is breaking from most of her Republican colleagues on the issue at the center of the standoff: health care. Greene is siding with Democrats to preserve Affordable Care Act subsidies, a move that's drawing attention inside and outside her district.

CBS News Atlanta traveled to Floyd County, the heart of Georgia's 14th Congressional District, to gauge voters' thoughts. The area, which includes Rome, is a deep-red territory where President Donald Trump won about 70 percent of the vote, and Greene has long been known as one of his staunchest allies.

But in a recent CNN interview, Greene said she's hearing directly from constituents worried about losing access to health insurance if ACA tax credits expire.

"I'm getting phone calls from people that are saying if the ACA tax credits expire, they aren't going to be able to have health insurance," Greene said. "They're going to have to drop it."

David Guldenschuh, vice chair of the Floyd County Republican Party and an early Greene supporter, said her stance shouldn't be seen as abandoning conservative principles ...
"We do need to supplement the premiums," Guldenschuh added. "I think she's looking out for her constituents. We can't just let premiums double for those who are using it."
...
About 74,000 people in Greene's district receive coverage through the Affordable Care Act, and nearly all of them get tax credits to help lower their monthly premiums.

Handsomedan:

Of course none of this even comes close to a plan to remove the rubble that was a country's buildings and infrastructure and rebuild it.

The orange buffoon did have a (very, very weird) plan for Gaza - but that was at the start of the year, not long after he took office:

I believe it's since been shelved, so no idea what he wants to do now 🤷‍♂️

Neither do I. Its a mix of politics, fans, reality. They all dont seem to meld together. They need an honest mediator. From afar, some Middle East nations (Saudi and UAE, Qatar, Egypt,) seem to be that, but I dont live there

I have seen a "quote" where he is somewhat unhappy with the photo chosen.
If I can find it, I'll post it...but it's the usual diatribe.

And here we have it from The Guardian: https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2025/oct/15/donald-trump-photo-time-magazine

“They ‘disappeared’ my hair, and then had something floating on top of my head that looked like a floating crown, but an extremely small one.”

If true, thank Christ it's not that pathetic fight fight thing featuring the orange buffoon.

Seriously, at least Jobs had a positive influence on all Americans, not just 35% of them - and his legacy was certainly more lasting (and better).

https://www.advocate.com/voices/kristi-noem-absurd-airport-videos

It says something about the state of our government that the DHS is now producing airport propaganda videos so embarrassing that airports are refusing to play them. In her latest performance, Noem, the department’s resident leader of kookiness, recorded a message blaming Democrats for the government shutdown.

Propaganda, meet thy saviour!

Also as a result of that story, I was today years old when I learned about this, uh, "trend" amongst the MAGA crowd (this mostly applies to females): https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mar-a-Lago_face

I'm hardly much to look at myself (face for radio, you might say) but looking at how some of these women look now compared to how they used to look...it's almost frightening 😮

And this is the orange buffoon's idea of "the ideal woman"? Each to their own, I guess.

Guys, it's not just for the ladies. Matt Gaetz is on the wikipedia list.

Guys, here's how to get the Gaetz look. It's so much harder than anyone might think!
