I fervently hope there are still enough decent people in America to send this creep back to his gold plated toilet in the next election. This pouting infant has done more than enough damage!

It's not only this orange idiot. People who enable him. His cabinet. Anyone working for him is an accomplice.

He is the centre of gravity. He draws them in like shit attracts flies. Get rid of him and the cult falls apart and the enablers scuttle back under their rocks.

I hope it's that simple. But you only have to look around at everywhere else to see that the USA is not some weird isolated incident. The whole world is turning in on itself. And it is not really surprising when you think about it. The years after WWII were a historical aberration with a huge uplift in education, income and general standard of living to the survivors and their boomer kids. But then along came neoliberalism in the late 70s and early 80s, and it has been a gradual downward slide ever since with all the wealth moving back to the already wealthy.

Us Gen-Xers might be the last who got any benefit from the last few pre-neoliberal years. But now everything is visibly falling apart people want someone to blame and someone to fix it. Strongmen have simple explanations and simple solutions, exactly what people want to hear.

Even here in NZ Luxon promised that he knew exactly how Labour f***ed the economy and he could easily unf**** it because he used to run an airline, and New Zealand believed him.

TL;DR not sure Trump finally stroking out will be the end of Trumpism.

Republicans would have a fit if it was the other way around. But those aren't Republicans. These are Nazis.

How pathetically petty and childish. I hope the midterms next year end up giving the Republicans a bit of a wake-up call.

Speaking of which - two governors elections on Wednesday (our time), one held by a Republican (Virginia), one not (New Jersey). I pick that Democrats will win both.

Trump IS a cult. The morons who worship him think he is divinely ordained to rule. Vance and anyone else does not command that level of brainless adulation. I am not saying they cannot succeed him, but they cannot do it the way he did. They would always be seen as just the least awful of a bad choice.

Yes that reminds me of the election last year when Ron De Santis was running. I recall him being branded as "Diet Trump", "Trump without all the baggage/rudeness" or "Trump Lite". But even he couldn't cut through and make any headway in the primaries.

As much as I detest the orange buffoon, I fail to see how anyone - even James - could live up to his level, even if he keeled over tomorrow. Yes, James would become president as a result, but would he go on to win in 2028? Not likely.

People who live pointless, petty lives need someone to blame for their own misfortune, whether it be self created or not. Trumps core demographic are going to eat that shit up; that's all he cares about.

Trump's voter appeal has mystified me ever since his first presidential run. He's such a worthless piece of human garbage that I've never been able to understand how anyone in their right mind could possibly vote him into the US's highest office.

This journalist's video provides an excellent and plausible explanation of how he pulled it off, and how he continues to sway a large and influential section of the US population.

Trump crowned? No faux King way!

It all seems so familiar to me (and what we learned in school). And when nothing else works, a war will be started. After all, Poland invaded Germany back then, and today Ukraine has invaded Russia. Let's see who will invade the United States... probably a handful of Danish soldiers patrolling Greenland... with nuclear hand grenades and weather drones.

The EU's invasion of Great Britain didn't really work out, so Brexit had to suffice. Unfortunately, their problems are now greater than they were before Brexit, and there is no sign of those responsible.

Folks, beware of the saviours who promise you the familiar. The whole world is in recession, there is no escape through simple solutions, and things CANNOT continue this way because WE HAVE ALL been living far beyond our means. But everyone wants to hold on to the familiar and simply raises their prices. And at some point, the pyramid scheme will simply collapse because some people still can't get enough and self-proclaimed prophets promise everything under the sun.

The day will come (once again, more or less every 70 years) when a single hatchet or axe produced by a public limited company will be worth far more than the shares issued by that company – even if the axe or hatchet is now manufactured in China. That is what is known as real value. The shares will then have the real value of toilet paper.

I have several million Reichsmarks lying around here in the form of a few banknotes from the period of inflation. Does that make me a millionaire? (Note: at that time, this amount of money would have been enough to buy a loaf of bread in the morning, but only a roll in the evening.)

A cooking or baking class or craft course would certainly be a better investment than a visit to the nail salon or hookah bar. Recently, I saw a young academic trying to hammer a dowel into the wall – I had to intervene before he killed himself.

And with extreme obesity, survival becomes an unexpected adventure that will not be easy. There is no reason to despair. But there is also no need to freeze like a rabbit when it sees a snake. 😁

re the orange buffoon stopping SNAP benefits (aka food stamps) for people on lower incomes - incidentally, something that polling shows is more likely to be blamed on Republicans than Democrats:

citation: JD Vance‘s vacations this year have cost taxpayers 35 million dollars.

The only expensive part of these trips are the golden souvenirs for the orange boss. 😁

A depressing Executive Summary

NY Times - Opinion - Are We Losing Our Democracy?  (unlocked link)

The Editorial Board - 31 Oct 2025

Countries that slide from democracy toward autocracy tend to follow similar patterns.

To measure what is happening in the United States, the Times editorial board has compiled a list of 12 markers of democratic erosion, with help from scholars who have studied this phenomenon.

The sobering reality is that the United States has regressed, to different degrees, on all 12.

[headings only]

01. An authoritarian stifles dissent and speech.
02. An authoritarian persecutes political opponents
03. An authoritarian bypasses the legislature
04. An authoritarian uses the military for domestic control
05. An authoritarian defies the courts
06. An authoritarian declares national emergencies on false pretenses
07. An authoritarian vilifies marginalized groups
08. An authoritarian controls information and the news media
09. An authoritarian tries to take over universities
10. An authoritarian creates a cult of personality
11. An authoritarian uses power for personal profit
12. An authoritarian manipulates the law to stay in power

Not picked up by any news organization:

Emergency flight: "Mayday, Mayday, Mayday. American 186 declaring a medical emergency. Pediatric passenger with severe food poisoning, escalating abdominal pain, suspected acute appendicitis with risk of an appendix rupture. Request immediate vectors and priority straight in approach to Miami International. EMS standby requested."

Air Tower: "American 186 unable at this time. Air Force One is on short final runway and movement area secured for VIP arrival. Next approach window in 13 minutes."

“Short final” means an aircraft is very close to landing, usually within the last KM of the runway, typically under 30 seconds from touchdown

God forbid Trump have to spend 15 minutes longer on Air Force One just because some dumb kid might die if they don't get "emergency surgery" on their sore tummy.
