Looks like the shutdown is over: https://edition.cnn.com/politics/live-news/government-shutdown-snap-flights-senate-11-10-25

Some Democrats appeared to cave in and a number of people are not happy about it, especially since Obamacare subsidies won't be extended, just Republicans will "promise" to take a vote on it 🙄

Gavin Newsom had a clever take on the shutdown 😀

also re tariffs:

(I'd be very skeptical to see him send cheques out to anybody).

Can this greatmouth actually do anything other than throw around huge sums of money and superlatives like a drooling boxer? America has become a global laughing stock with a hand grenade and the safety pin pulled – it's just that no one talks about it, and even hand grenades can be dodged.

This constant builder of Potemkin villages and creator of papier-mâché dummies is slowly getting on my nerves. To me, he's just an overexcited, egocentric good-for-nothing, no matter how rich he may be or how he embellishes his achievements – a pathetic creature. Even if he affects the whole world, I don't need him!

As I recall from CNN web this morning - Eight Democrats will cross the floor to vote with Republicans.

- The 'deal' gives the Trump administration enough cash until January 2026
- Federal workers dumped during the shutdown will have jobs restored
- Republicans have agreed to hold a vote on funding Obamacare
- The eight Democrats believe there will be a subsequent 'deal' with Republicans before January to continue funding the Trump administration and continue funding Obamacare.

I have not seen the latest assessments and don't yet have a link to the original article.

Trump planning to sue the BBC over alleged Jan 6 documentary Trump speech edit unless the documentary is withdrawn:

https://www.rnz.co.nz/news/world/578448/bbc-news-says-it-received-legal-threat-from-trump-over-speech-edit

Looks two senior BBC executives have resigned and the BBC has apologized.

https://www.1news.co.nz/2025/11/11/trump-pardons-giuliani-and-others-accused-of-plot-to-overturn-2020-election/

Sigh. I hope he didn't sign these clowns pardons with an autopen 🙄

(as an aside, these pardons have a limited impact: per Politico, "The pardons are largely symbolic — none of those identified were charged with federal crimes. The document posted by [Justice Department Pardon Attorney Ed] Martin is also undated, so it’s unclear when Trump signed it.")

Magnets.
Today it's all about magnets.

Rambling nonsense here

Trump says ‘no one knows what magnets are’ during bizarre Oval Office exchange

Donald Trump says that “no one knows what magnets are” during a strange Oval Office press conference.

During the swearing in of a new ambassador to India on Monday (10 November), the President launched into a rant about China, whilst discussing their recent agreement to start easing rare earth export rules.

“China was going to hit us with rare-earth. Now, everybody says, ‘Oh, what does that mean?’ Magnets. If China refused to give magnets, because they have a monopoly on magnets… there wouldn’t be a car made in the entire world.”

He then claimed that “nobody knows what magnets are”, before going on to praise the “great deal” the two nations made in October.

Whilst the talks did not end in a formal agreement, Mr Trump agreed to reduce tariffs on some Chinese goods entering the US, whilst Beijing agreed to suspend export control measures it had placed on rare earths.

My take on it is that he didn't understand what "Rare Earth Elements" were and why China has a monopoly on them. Someone tried to explain them and it got simplified to the point that magnets are made from rare earth materials, so he fixated on the only bit he understood...magnets.

Clearly, Donald Trump is a closet Insane Clown Posse fan.

(Not sure if the YouTube tag works for start time and I doubt you all want to watch half a video just to hear them say 'F***ing magnets, how do they work?')

Previous quote from Trump about magnets

“All I know about magnets is this: Give me a glass of water, let me drop it on the magnets — that’s the end of the magnets.”

Trump as a science genius of of his genes.

“I had an uncle who went to MIT who is a top professor. Dr. John Trump. A genius. It’s in my blood. I’m smart.”

A paternal uncle is two “steps” away in terms of direct family connections: you -> father -> uncle. You share about 25% of your DNA with a paternal uncle. Even identical twins with the same genes can have different IQs depending on the environment.

Speaking of the uncle, Trump said he was “the longest‑serving professor at MIT” is false

His uncle uncle “taught the Unabomber (Ted Kaczynski)” is also false.

I just conquered North America in a computer strategy game. According to his beautiful logic, I should now be the new POTUS, correct? 😁😁😁

https://newrepublic.com/post/203011/fox-news-ingraham-mocks-trump-tacky-golden-office

What an interview, with someone from Fox, of all channels - she asks him quite a few tricky questions which he clearly didn't like:

Fox News’s Laura Ingraham took a light jab at President Trump’s gaudy, gold-lined Oval Office decorations during a White House tour Monday evening, asking him if he’d got the ornaments from Home Depot.

“Why not silver?” Ingraham asked while Trump gave her a tour.

“You can’t imitate gold, real gold,” the president replied, brushing off her question about the silver. “There’s no paint that imitates real gold.”

“So these aren’t like, from Home Depot?” Ingraham said dryly.

“Nooo, this is not Home Depot stuff.”

Trump’s 50-year mortgage would estimated save an Average American about $119 a month while doubling the interest you pay over the long run

The average American borrower would pay an additional $389,000 in interest over the life of a 50-year mortgage compared to a 30-year.

Trump calls 50-year mortgages no 'big deal' as right-wing conservatives balk
