Good analysis from the BBC

Trump is waging war based on instinct and it isn't working

In summary Netanyahu is getting absolutely what he wanted:

  • destroy Iran's ability to threaten the existence of Israel
  • a US President dumb enough to help

The reason that the US can't articulate their war aims and end-state is they never thought that was important, the Powell Doctrine was for the woke. The US intelligence agencies don't provide threat assessments and wars are started based on Hurt Feelings.

Former Iranian King's son Reza Pahlavi urges no peace agreement with Iran - continue the war "make Iran great again" - gets ovation from conservative groups:

"Mr Pahlavi urged the United States to “stay the course” and “pave the way for the Iranian people to finish the job,” arguing that only the complete collapse of the Islamic republic could bring lasting stability. “This regime in its entirety must go,” he said."

IRGC says Middle Eastern branches of American universities will be attacked - unless the Trump administration condemns Israel's attacks on Iranian universities within 24 hours:

""If the US government wants its universities in the region to be free from retaliation... it must condemn the bombing of the universities in an official statement by 12 noon on Monday, March 30, Tehran time," said the statement published by Iranian media. The statement added: "We advise all employees, professors, and students of American universities in the region and residents of their surrounding areas" to stay a kilometer away from campuses."

If the Trojan War broke out because of a kidnapped woman, why not because of the whim of an incompetent lunatic? 🤔

gzt: Rather than the article being weird I understand your comment to be directed at the direct quote from the official:

"According to the official, the Iranian leadership has “decided to end a weeks-long period of tolerance towards Abu Dhabi, after concluding that the Emirati role went beyond simply hosting US military facilities already hit in Iranian retaliatory attacks”"

Pretty much consistent with other statements from Iranian officials over the last couple of days warning 'neighbours' but a more specific version with a more specific threat of response or action.

It doesn’t make sense because they haven’t been tolerant towards Abu Dhabi. The UAE are the most attacked country and Abu Dhabi have been the most heavily attacked emirate.

Emirates Global Aluminium smelter and refinery at Al Taweelah got hit last night and they hit Aluminum Bahrain today. The Qatar smelter got hit a week or two back.

The economic attacks are consistent and not stopping.

good article, indeed. if it hasn't always been to some people, it is certainly getting clearer by the day who among the 2 leaders had/has a clear objective about this war.

would like to hear your side on how "the Powell Doctrine was for the woke" though. i thought the 8 questions it required an affirmative answer to was/is, at least, sensible.

SaltyNZ:

gzt: US-Israel agree not to kill key Iran negotiators for 10 days:

"The US and Israel have removed Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and Parliamentary Speaker Mohammad Ghalibaf from their hit list after mediators said that peace talks would be dead without them, according to multiple reports. Ghalibaf and Araghchi were in Israel’s crosshairs when mediators from Pakistan, Turkey, and Egypt warned the US that their deaths would likely sink any hopes of a diplomatic end to the war."

Wow what a generous offer from two totally trustworthy protagonists.

Yep basically a warning of even worse if a ground invasion is launched.

Yes, I pity the US soldiers how haven't managed to conscientious objector themselves out of this war. If they try to land on Kharg Island or on the Iranian mainland, they're going to have fire rained down on them non-stop. This ain't Iraq where they can hoon across the desert at top speed in their tanks and APCs. This is mountain country, where you move at nearly walking speed and any valley within 200km can hide drone and SRBM launchers that will be gone before you can fire back.

Have you ever listened to Peter Hegseth?

Peter Hegseth:

We negotiate with bombs

International Law is for wusses, Geneva Conventions are for losers. He openly advocates for the military to commit war crimes.

So yes the Powell Doctrine is an excellent approach, and has been completely ignored by the current administration.

In Trump world any kind of sensible = woke.

Also, hate to say it but Trump and Hegseth may have a low opinion of the Powell doctrine simply because the originator is General Colin Powell who happens to be black,

and then there's all the anti-dei bs talk in the Trump admin that sees any non-white-etc-etc as an unworthy beneficiary of dei and not competent. Total ####ing nightmare.

Any claims of a policy being "woke" by right-wing regimes instantly put them into the "racist, misogynistic" bunch. That also goes for their supporters.
