Luxon has just changed his tack:

https://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/politics/christopher-luxon-fires-up-at-winston-peters-says-nz-first-responsible-for-prime-minister-dame-jacinda-ardern/YTH33XYROVCBFGFR6ER6DXPK4A/

Prime Minister Christopher Luxon has fired up at his coalition partner New Zealand First, including claiming its leader Winston Peters is trying to “scaremonger” and reminding New Zealanders the party put Dame Jacinda Ardern into power.

I wonder what Winston will do next? He's not one to let stuff go lightly (usually). For Luxon's part, it seems (to me) like he's trying to burn his bridges with Winston - even though he may need them in a few months time.

Wow, Willis' brain rot has spread. Or did it go the other way? Winston Peters put you in power, numbnuts!

It’s less than six months to the election. This is just electioneering noise.

100% electioneering ... just bonkers electioneering in this particular situation.

TPM supporters will have big expectations.
Unless those standing have changed, they seem to be all or nothing absolutists.

If is close enough they are needed to form a government.
Could end up giving National/Act/NZF as second bite when TPM pull support within a year?
You can end up with worse than nothing as you may pave the way for National, ACT, NZF all over again.

It would be nice to be proved wrong, but National, ACT, NZF losing could be poised chalice if TPM is needed.

Between the TPM circus, the complete abscence of thought from Labour and the mess that the Greens have been all term. That’s the way the coalition gets back.

The government is pretty bad, the alternative is significantly worse.

The Greens and TPM kickoff? Te Pati is at 2% in recent opinion polls. Labour has indicated an intention to campaign for the Maori seats like there's no tomorrow. There's a good chance Te Pati will hold no seats at all. It surprises me TPM is a factor in this discussion. Is there a real reason?

The most likely path to power for the opposition involves TPM. That’s the reason that Hipkins and the greens won’t rule them out.

Labour has increasingly weak support in the Māori seats. Peeni Henare got his arse kicked in the Tamaki Makarau by election so there’s no sign that their support in the Māori seats is increasing.

That was before the epic issues - those episodes really did cause support to drop away from Te Pati.

In the Maori seats I'm guessing there will be more attention on the candidates and less on the parties this time around.

Not really across the strategies in individual electorates but we have some high profile candidates running, such as Tania Waikato, Heather Te Au Skipworth etc. so that seems like a reasonable assumption.

Sadly this shows a portion of society is becoming more influenced by the player, less by the ball. Chris, Chris, Chloe, Marama, Debbie & Rawiri, the figureheads of each party should have almost zero influence on who is voted for, but in a facebook/instagram/tik tok world fill of influencers and viral social media posts, this is what we now have.

We did have the old notable from National Party phoning up talkback radio repeatedly with disguised voice/identity some years ago.
Slagging off a young Indian candidate for National selection they did not like in Auckland.
Old boy having not got the memo about internet and social media?

The 'money' is certain with influencers these days tho.

I don't believe there has ever been a time in my life where that was not the case. It has always been technically true that you vote for your local MP and/or the party, and the party chooses the PM, not the voters. But we all know we vote for the PM we like the most (or more often hate the least).
