ROTFLMAO...

https://www.1news.co.nz/2025/12/30/us-offers-ukraine-15-year-security-guarantee-in-peace-talks-zelensky/

'The U.S. (along with the UK and Russia) promised security assurances to Ukraine in the 1994

Budapest Memorandum, pledging to respect its sovereignty, independence, and borders in exchange for Ukraine giving up its inherited Soviet nuclear arsenal."

So how is THAT working out. And now that Putin/Trump are trying the same BS game again...

The word of Trump is worthless.

This Youtube creator is usually known for his dry wit, and detached deadpan delivery.

He's quite animated, and annoyed, at Trump and Pam Bondi

The Epstein Files are Worse Than You Think!

Indeed.

https://apnews.com/article/trump-russia-ukraine-war-un-election-a78ecb843af452b8dda1d52d137ca893

At a CNN town hall in May 2023, Trump said: “They’re dying, Russians and Ukrainians. I want them to stop dying. And I’ll have that done — I’ll have that done in 24 hours.” He said that would happen after he met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Russian President Vladimir Putin. And he keeps repeating the claim on the campaign trail.

That aged well (along with a lot of his worthless campaign pitches) 🙄

quickymart: Trump said: "They're dying, Russians and Ukrainians. I want them to stop dying."

We should be thankful he didn't pick the "evil genie" meme choice of "you can't die if you're already dead: Nuke 'em both"

The NY Times - Opinion - Why Does Trump Get Away With It?  (unlocked link)

30 Dec 2025

An in-depth article, difficult to summarize, but worth reading:

How does Trump get away with doing things, repeatedly, that would have been disastrous for previous presidents - Republican and Democrat?

headings only:

  • The lack of guilt felt by Trump.
  • The (polarized) news media.
  • The liabilities of the opposition. (Democratic “wokeness”)
  • Structural frailty. (of American democracy and the Constitution)
  • The Supreme Court’s conservative majority.
  • A supine Republican Party.
  • The (uneven) distribution of economic growth.

The sad thing is while Trump is a sad, blind, narcissist, he is the POTUS of the top nation in the world. You need to satisfy a narcissist. In our small world, its an argument, a fight, or part ways. In the global world you and your nation and citizens will be punished by tariffs, global ridicule (that no one in power can dispute) and hardship.

If we can imagine MANY leaders in a private convo, thats where the truth is told, but in respect to their country and citizens, it has to be kept private

https://thehill.com/homenews/5668061-boebert-trump-veto-colorado-water-epstein/

Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-Colo.) voiced frustration with President Trump over his recent veto of legislation that intended to finish a project for sending water to southeastern Colorado.

...

Boebert, who had pressed for a vote on files linked to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, added later in the statement that she hopes “this veto has nothing to do with political retaliation for calling out corruption and demanding accountability.”

First it was Marjorie Taylor Green over the Epstein files, now we have another of the orange buffoon's staunchest supporters speaking out against him - possibly due to her support (as well) for releasing the Epstein files.

Are cracks finally starting to show in the MAGA dam? 🤔

A thoughtful (and sarcastic) look at Trump's endless quest to be admired by everyone - and a counter-take on his line "the world was laughing at us [while under Biden's presidency]":

https://www.thebulwark.com/p/somebody-needs-to-tell-trump-everybody-laughing-at-him

It gets worse. It isn’t just that your ravenous hunger for recognition betrays a personality disorder, it’s that your particular style of seeking it really does provoke ridicule—that’s another word for “they’re laughing at us.”

The “Gulf of America”? Musing about absorbing Canada into the United States whether they like it or not? Decorating the Oval Office in a Saddam Hussein aesthetic? Threatening to expropriate Greenland from our ally Denmark? Truly great nations don’t need to prove their manhood by lording it over smaller ones. Imposing tariffs on islands inhabited only by penguins? Panting after a Nobel Peace Prize so flagrantly that you’re claiming to have settled eight wars? In two of those cases, there was no war. In the other six, the conflicts are either ongoing or were largely settled without you. Offering meme coins for sale to the highest bidder? Auctioning off pardons to criminals and leaders on the take? You bet they’re laughing.

I Know Why Trump Made Epstein His Best Friend

Inside Trump's Head, The Daily Beast

"[Trump and Epstein] have a beauty contest for what they call what they're calling Calendar Girls. And they recruit all of these girls that come down to Mar a Lago for this beauty pageant. When the girls get there, they find that it's an audience that consists of two, and it's only Donald Trump and Jeffrey Epstein.

So this is a special episode ... that is going to trace the relationship of Donald Trump, our current president, with Jeffrey Epstein, who died mysteriously or possibly not in one of America's worst jails. And the "Epstein, Epstein, Epstein" as Trump refers to it, of it all is the one thing that has consistently unsettled him all year.

Well, the other thing is, you know, I, I mean, we've gone from his complete denial about our relationship with, with Epstein and to a understanding, I think many people seem now to understand this and and the evidence in in emails and other documentary material establishes this, in fact, a very close relationship. And certainly in my conversations with Epstein, he was always very particular about the fact that they were the closest of friends for, well over a decade."

War correspondent Phil Ittner has IMO some good insights on the Trump administration and the influence on that administration by the Russians. He also has in depth information on the war in Ukraine. His reports are well worth listening to.

I found this one particular interesting and concerning where he talks about Russian influence within the US government.

This link could also go in the Ukraine thread, but the comments on the US government are particularly relevant to this thread. If you only want to listen to this bit fast forward to about 20 minutes.

An interesting look ahead to 2028 and who could run to replace the orange buffoon - by which point he'll (hopefully 🤞) be in the rear-view mirror - and a poor prognosis for Harris.

Trump's Gnarly New Year: Vanilla Ice, Michelangelo TMNT spit Ninja Rap, wack poser circus. Gag me, bogus sellout vibes, barf me out.

Still better than "Gatsby party" while millions of Americans were losing vital food assistance benefits amid the ongoing government shutdown. It was literally partying in lavish 1920s flapper glam hours before SNAP benefits lapsed for ~42 million people struggling to put food on the table.

"I'm not a crook."

The NY Times - After Watergate, the Presidency Was Tamed. Trump Is Unleashing It.  (unlocked link)

02 Jan 2025

A good long-form article, worth reading ...

In the 1970s, Congress passed a raft of laws to hold the White House accountable. President Trump has decided they don’t apply to him.

From the opening days of his second term, President Trump took aim at Watergate’s ethical checkpoints as if in a shooting gallery. ...

A strain of conservative legal thinking has been aiming to reassert the president’s powers ever since they were curbed in the post-Watergate era.

But while Mr. Trump’s lawyers successfully make the case for expanding presidential authority based on a high-minded Constitutional argument, there is a raw political result. ...
