Blocking/protesting could be interpreted as her 1st ammendment rights. The others, likely a fine.

Absolutely agree with both of you. Okay yes, she was possibly in the wrong for blocking them - okay, place her under arrest or fine her. You don't just go around shooting someone who's p-d you off because you can. Even worse, the thug who pulled the trigger just hightailed it out of the scene, without at least stopping to render assistance.

 

If the Democrats with the House or Senate (or both?) in the midterms in November is there anything that they can do about this? Disband ICE in its current form? Stop its funding? Open an inquiry? Something?

Some Americans will stay home instead of going to vote, because "both sides are bad" or any other crappy excuse.

I'd like to see some analysis of paragraphs two and three. As much as I agree with the sentiment I expect paragraphs two and three are almost completely factually incorrect. Advice like thst could directly cause the deaths of more innocent people.

That poster is definitely not a legal professional or civil rights lawyer and has definitely not consulted either before posting that.

Saw something the other day that the midterms may not change anything, as most areas are locked in, and the district boundary realignments

Its agents have the power to stop, detain and arrest people they suspect of being in the US illegally. But critically, they do not have the power to arrest US citizens except in limited circumstances, such as if a person interferes with an arrest or assaults an officer.

 

Of course, Trump has already spun that to describe her as a "domestic terrorist" - but that's not what appears in the video.

 

She blocked their cars, for sure, but how does that make her a "domestic terrorist"?

https://edition.cnn.com/2026/01/07/us/minneapolis-shooting-ice-video-analysis-vis - My interpretation is the driver was turning right and therefore moving away from the armed ice member near the front of the vehicle, and actually moving quite slowly at that point. My guess is the driver loses control of the vehicle after the first shot is fired probably due to injury or death. After the first shot the ice member fires a further two rounds. Three shots in total.

Imo an experienced and trained police officer would absolutely not have approached the vehicle in this way in the first place and would not have made this decision to initiate a shooting of an unarmed person. ICE recruits basically anyone and gives them a couple of weeks training and a gun and sends them out into the streets.

Today The Bulwark has a good piece on what happened - they get their point across a little less emotionally than me - and the government's response (read: lying to cover for what actually happened):

 

Yesterday, in Minneapolis, in broad daylight, on video, and in front of many witnesses, a masked ICE officer shot and killed an American citizen, a woman named Renee Good, behind the wheel of her car. Within minutes, Department of Homeland Security spokesperson Tricia McLaughlin was lying about her.

 

The victim, McLaughlin said, had “weaponized her vehicle, attempting to run over our law enforcement officers in an attempt to kill them.” It had been, she said, “an act of domestic terrorism.” The officer who, “fearing for his life,” fired the shots, she said, “saved his own life and that of his fellow officers.”

 

Shortly after came the videos showing what actually took place.

Star tribune article basically says the exact same ice officer made exactly the same mistake on at least two previous occasions and obviously did not get any corrective training. Dude has obviously learned a lot from action movies and not much else. It would not surprise me if he'd been rejected from law enforcement positions in the past.

Another FAFO. Charlie Kirk was a nobody outside of alt-right circles. An agitator at best. But the snowflake MAGAts, who claim they don't worry about feelings, got all up when people did not give this guy the time they thought he deserved.

 

When Trumpism tells them to jump, they jump. But like all things Trump, he won't be there to help them when they need.

Austin Peay State University has reinstated a professor who was fired for his social media post after the killing of conservative activist Charlie Kirk. The Tennessee school is also paying the teacher $500,000 in the settlement.

 

Austin Peay spokesperson Brian Dunn said Darren Michael returned to his position as a tenured faculty member at the public university in Clarksville effective 30 December. A copy of the settlement agreement obtained through a public records request includes a $500,000 payment and reimbursement of counseling, as reported earlier this week by WKRN-TV.
