The ICE agent who shot the unarmed woman in Minneapolis has apparently gone into hiding:

https://www.msn.com/en-us/news/us/ice-agent-at-center-of-minneapolis-shooting-reportedly-in-hiding-as-federal-officers-swarm-home-pack-up-belongings/ar-AA1TXGNf

Guess he's not such a tough guy with a gun anymore? If he didn't do a single thing wrong, why does he need to go into hiding? 🤷‍♂️

I get that, but...

There are a few issues here. He was wrong, that is very very clear. You cannot fire bullets like that, as the public are at risk from ricochets. Same reason why in NZ Police will often abort a car chase, as there are risks to others, we cannot have collateral damage. He was involved in an incident in June, was dragged 100 yards by a car, 33 stitches. Is that a defense of his actions, unsure, but its likely a contributing factor. End of the day he was wrong, and given the stark division in the US right now, much more than normal (and the normal was bad enough), he feels he is targeted, and not surprised at that. He probably realises in retrospect he went too far, or more rightly, reacted too soon. It was a very very low intensity issue, until Renee decided to leave. Then it became a kill her scenario

US attacked Islamic State in Syria, happy with that, US is working with Syria.

US is ready to step in, in Iran, happy with that

US still ignores Ukraine, UNHAPPY with that, as the top two will be media friendly, and wins, the latter is tough (due to Trump backing off as he wants easy wins)

Venezuela, he's happy supporting a vicious regime, no comment required.

Watching media right now, he's looking an intervention in Mexico as well as Greenland.

He is a living, breathing. tabloid

For sure. One (counter?) argument I've seen though is apparently the guy was dragged by a car (I think about) 6 months ago while working for ICE, so he possibly had PTSD issues, at minimum; but why was he still on active duty? He was obviously high-strung and the previous incident - understandably - impacted him. He should have been stood down for some time to restore his mental health and then returned when he was ready.

Disclaimer: it hasn't mentioned if he was stood down to recover after his previous incident or not - but if not, it might have been a good idea, IMO. Also if you feel I've been too harsh on the guy please feel free to correct my comments above.

Watched Trumps meeting with oil execs yesterday, not all of it. His "speech" was all about praising himself as usual. It then went to a few execs who also praised him. As usual. Placate the bear so you remain in the circle. It was all very positive, even though one said it was currently "uninvestible" Trump wanted deals same day, but he accepted it might just be in days

From what Ive read since, it was a total fail. The execs have to look after shareholders and the risk of stability is too great. Although Trump did say, you will have stability. Words, words and more words. It didnt wash

So we now have a a dictator removed, tick. The same illicit and harsh regime is not only still in power, it is being supported. The oil deal has failed.

Now what?

It will be a funnel of tax payer dollars to provide security and oil infrastructure guarantees.

Profits back to trump and the oil barons.

Yeah agree the previous failure isn't any kind of argument. It only proves the guy is either untrained or incompetent. Back to the current situation there was no need at all to present a firearm. This doesn't look good:

https://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/ice-officer-jonathan-ross-veteran-spent-decade-dhs-rcna253254

"Witness videos show that at the moment Ross fires his first shot into the front of the SUV, its wheels are directed away from him. His legs appear to be clear of the car. He fires the second and third shots into the open driver’s side window as the car is moving. Ross’ phone then captures the SUV accelerating down the street. A male voice says, “f-----g bitch.” - you read that right the shooter was recording the whole thing.

The article goes on: "Multiple neighbors told NBC News that during the presidential election, a pro-Trump and at least one “Don’t Tread on Me” Gadsden sign had been on display. There were no political signs outside the house Friday, and Ross’ political affiliation is unknown. A neighbor who also asked not to be identified by name said everyone in the neighborhood is “freaking out.” She said the pro-Trump signage at Ross’ home was noticeable because “part of the neighborhood is not generally supportive of Trump, so the houses stick out if they are.”

That is sensible. Anyone would do that innocent or guilty. Most likely he's been offered some kind of temporary protection until this is sorted out. Hopefully this one will eventually end with civil rights charges of some kind and a conviction.

If he was still suffering so much PTSD he couldn't handle a woman who greeted him nicely and then turned to move her car out of the way then he should have been on a desk job, at best. Also, if you don't want to get dragged 100 yards by a car trying to get away from you and your military armed thug friends for the crime of being brown, then don't join ICE.

No sympathy is owed. He was where he was because he wanted to be there. Everything else is 100% on him.

Can't find the article now but on the bus this morning I read that armed Venezuelans have started hunting US citizens to shoot and kill according to advice from the State Department. Going to need a LOT of security in order to keep US oil workers safe over there for the next, oh, forever.

If I were Latin America, I wouldn't sell Trump any more coffee beans, and Africa would definitely join in too, maybe Asia as well. What do you think would happen THEN? Direct hit - 330 million grumpy US Americans! 🤣😁😉

kingdragonfly: In Philadelphia, the minimum education requirement to become a Philadelphia Deputy Sheriff is a high school diploma or GED equivalent. A college degree is not required. Age minimum is 19. Less than 3 months training. The sheriff is elected every four years

As Bilal explains in the video the Philly Sheriffs Dept is responsible for security of the courts and prisoner transport. The police dept is a different dept in Philly. In Philly the sheriffs training is longer than 90 days - 19 weeks at Penn State University

Cheers. I was calculating based on 40 hours/week

https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2026/jan/11/trump-tells-cuba-to-make-a-deal-or-face-the-consequences

Dozens of Venezuelan and Cuban security personnel were killed in the US raid, after which Trump said Cuba was “ready to fall”, noting the island’s deep economic crisis and that it would be difficult for Havana to “hold out” without cheap Venezuelan oil.

Earlier on Sunday, the US president reposted a message suggesting the US secretary of state, Marco Rubio, whose parents were Cuban immigrants, could become the country’s new president, adding: “Sounds good to me!”

Rubio as president of Cuba? Spare me 🙄
