A great (and humorous) analysis in The Bulwark today on the orange buffoon getting "given" the Nobel Peace Award: https://www.thebulwark.com/i/184766816/the-make-a-wish-president

Last week, in the midst of a Truth Social rant about the supposed uselessness of NATO, Trump whined that “I single-handedly ENDED 8 WARS, and Norway, a NATO Member, foolishly chose not to give me the Noble [sic] Peace Prize.” Trump did not end eight wars. The nation of Norway does not select the winner of the Nobel prizes, which are also not called the “Noble” prizes. And it’s hard to imagine a crazier metric by which to assess the merits or demerits of NATO in the first place. This isn’t the ranting of a supervillain; it would never occur to Stephen Miller to say something like this. It’s the tantrum of a child.

But a child with godlike powers tends to get what he wants. And so it was yesterday that María Corina Machado, the Venezuelan opposition leader and actual recipient of last year’s Nobel Peace Prize, showed up at the White House to hand the thing over. Feast your eyes on the most powerful man on earth, the Make-a-Wish president, the septuagenarian birthday boy

...

Later, Trump headed back to Truth Social in a very good mood. It had been his “Great Honor” to meet Machado, he said, who had “presented me with her Nobel Peace Prize for the work I have done. Such a wonderful gesture of mutual respect.” After giving Trump her medal, Machado was later spotted leaving the White House with a gift bag bearing Trump’s signature. Mutual!

Mutual indeed! 🤔

Usually yes, I would fully agree with you - but in a twist of irony I believe he still doesn't back her taking over the presidency of Venezuela:

https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/cx2w94wp4p1o

Trump has previously described Machado as a "freedom fighter", but rejected the notion of appointing her to lead Venezuela after Maduro's removal, arguing that she lacks sufficient domestic support.

(...except for the fact that she did really well in their last election, before Maduro rigged the results and declared himself the winner).

The Washington Post - Trump threatens tariffs on nations that ‘don’t go along’ with Greenland plans

breaking

President Donald Trump on Friday threatened to place tariffs on countries that object to his demands to acquire Greenland - the same day a bipartisan group of lawmakers is in Denmark for an official visit that aims to reassure their NATO ally despite the administration’s push to annex the Arctic territory. ...

During ad-lib remarks at a roundtable at the White House, Trump told attendees, “I may put a tariff on countries if they don’t go along with Greenland, because we need Greenland for national security.”

The lunatics are running the asylum.  😯

No corruption to see here. None at all.

Re $500 million from Venezuela, going to neutral location.

"Neutral" doesn’t mean neutral. Outside U.S. and congress and U.S. court reach and future Presidential administrations. "Neutral" really means a legal buffer zone.

It also is legally flexible enough to obscure ownership and control. Also it means moving large sums quietly

This is about control, not safety.

Qatar is Gulf state has strong ties to the U.S., and most importantly not bound by U.S. domestic court orders.

It is also not transparent like Western banks

This isn't Qatar's first rodeo. It's experienced in acting as a financial intermediary for sanctioned or sensitive funds

So “neutral” really means a legal buffer zone.

Trump is sending funds from Venezuela oil to a bank in Qatar: The Independent

President Donald Trump’s administration will keep the money generated from the sale of Venezuelan oil across multiple bank accounts, the largest of which is located in Qatar, according to a report.

"Trump is sending funds from Venezuela oil to a bank in Qatar:

Senior officials told Semafor that the U.S. has now completed its first sale of the South American country’s oil in a deal worth $500 million.

They justified the decision to hold some of the proceeds in the Gulf state, rather than in U.S. banks, by pointing out that it is a neutral location from which the funds could be freely and safely moved without risk of seizure.

The NY Times - Opinion - This is the thanks Denmark gets?

14 Jan 2026

extracts:

I am writing about all this because the Trump administration may be on the verge of the most catastrophic national security mistake of my lifetime. It is attempting to bully Denmark into surrendering Greenland, its semiautonomous territory, to the United States.

We’re offering to buy it, but the offer is being made at gunpoint. ...

Denmark resisted Nazi occupation in World War II. It’s a founding member of NATO, and it followed through on that commitment, fighting by our side in Afghanistan. It even fought in Iraq, a non-NATO military mission. More recently the Danish Navy deployed a frigate to the Red Sea, where it fought alongside the U.S. Navy against Houthi rebels.

Bullying Denmark to seize Greenland would be the equivalent of threatening a friend to steal his car after he already let you borrow it. The friendly gesture is nice and all, but isn’t it better if the car is yours? Aren’t you wealthier if you can add it to your collection?

In the mercenary calculus of Donald Trump, morality is meaningless - unless it’s his morality, of course, and his morality places no constraints on his will to power and his greed.

EDIT

The Daily Mail - The state of the world is so terrible the only solution is to start drinking, says EU's chief diplomat   🙄

Polls show Trump is failing. Hardly surprising but the percentages outweigh the last election percentages.

In the meantime, Ukraine and Gaza are yesterday's news as its all about the Peace Prize being put in Trumps drawers, not earned or transferred, and the Greenland farce, and the Iran farce

Machado, her only interest is her people. Pity someone else doesnt focus on his people, instead of likes and posts and narcissism. Roll on mid terms, although the redistricting may mean no real change.

I will give Trump some credit. He is being bagged "bigly" everywhere and anywhere, but it runs off him like water off a ducks back. Normal people would be affected. Being criticised daily would and will affect all of us. When it doesnt, thats an issue. A bully narcisistic issue. Im suggesting its like Hitler. One goal of dominance, no issue with deaths of his people or any people as long as I get my personal goal. Putin is the same. USA 300 million, Russia 150 million. Almost half a billion people that dont exist in the eyes of the so called leader.

"Judge rules feds in Minneapolis immigration operation can't detain or tear gas peaceful protesters". Also, ICE cannot randomly detain people who are watching them, or following in a vehicle.

https://www.stuff.co.nz/world-news/360925876/judge-rules-feds-minneapolis-immigration-operation-cant-detain-or-tear-gas-peaceful-protesters

Judge interferes with Trump's great leap backward by stating the obvious.

ICE is a federal agency and gives them exceptional capability if the President, who is supposed to defend the law is the one enabling the trashing of the law. Then there is immunity and pardons.

Who is going to arrest them? Any local cop that tries will probably be taken away by another federal agency the FBI and that's that.

He has been firing Generals who were reluctant to do as Trump wishes.
Presumably how we got orders to fire on people offering no resistance, for their temporary resistance to drowning.
So replacements presumably don't care and expect a pardon, for anything they may or may not have done.

Who knew the people who shouted 'States Rights' at every turn.
Would happily cheer on Trump suffocating 'States Rights' and having remains slipped into concrete foundations of his ballroom.

One again Trump signals out loud his solution to mid terms.
He probably blames everyone else, you made me do it.

Whenever Putin is feeling any despair (If feelings are a thing for him) he just needs to look up what is Trump doing today, the future then seems so bright.
