Who knew the people who shouted 'States Rights' at every turn. Would happily cheer on Trump suffocating 'States Rights' and having remains slipped into concrete foundations of his ballroom.

The interesting thing is how MAGA don't follow any logic.

As you mentioned, they shout about state rights, then trample on state rights.

They shout against cancel culture, then cancel universities, talk shows, etc.

They shout "fuck your feelings", then get all offended for minor comments.

They shout about the other side being snowflakes, then complain about everything.

MAGA and Republicans, like Trump, are deplorables.

I watch CNN and BBC News. In between (on the Sky channel lineup) there is Fox news. Now, CNN is left leaning, BBC to me seems neutral, but Fox News is like a Trump sponsored channel. Its loud and aggressive, its not news, its pay media bites it seems. Classless. There are the odd normal people there that interview Democrats, as CNN does re GOP. In fact Elex Michaelson on CNN interviewed a woman, very very pro GOP or Trump, he interviewed her, she said the usual hard core stuff, he remained neutral, thats media fairness.

The NY Times - Trump Announces 10 Percent Tariff on European Countries in Standoff Over Greenland

breaking

President Trump announced on Saturday morning his latest strategy to get control of Greenland: He is imposing tariffs on a bloc of European nations until a deal can be reached to sell Greenland to the United States.

Denmark, which oversees Greenland, will be hit with a 10 percent tariff on all goods sent to the United States beginning on Feb. 1, he wrote in a social media post, along with Norway, Sweden, France, Germany, Britain, the Netherlands and Finland.

If they don’t relent, he added, the tariff rate will increase to 25 percent on June 1, “until such time as a Deal is reached for the Complete and Total purchase of Greenland.”

The United States currently charges a 10 percent tariff on British imports and a 15 percent tariff on imports from the European Union, after striking limited trade deals with both governments last year.

The new tariffs would presumably be imposed on top of that, and it remains to be seen how other trading partners would respond.

Another very bad idea, from a stubborn old egomaniac with progressing dementia.  🙄

My little vignette into Trump's life

Melania: "“Ahhh, my filthy little porklet, why you still sitting on Epstein papers, hm? All these useless mosquitoes around me. "Boss, boss, what we do?" They make my head hurt. I do not care who you sleep with, man, woman, child, is not my problem.”

Trump: “Kuule, my little vallatu vampiirike… I was ready to be throw everyone under the bus. But then I open the file and what do I see? Behind my back, Epstein joked with everyone about my hair. Do you know how expensive those implants were in Helsinki? Very discreet clinic. Very artistic doctor."

And that's how you buy the presidency of your country.

I'm reserving judgement, for the time being. It's possible she's in a Zelenskyy-like position and has consciously decided to debase herself with what the whole rest of the world knows is a farce because it might save her country. It also might not, so it's an incredibly difficult decision to make.

I don't know enough about her yet to know whether she is sucking up selfishly or selflessly. But I'm glad I'm not in her position.

Summary: FAFO

The Army used the recruiting slogan “An Army of One” till 2006, to emphasize individual strength, skill, and personal responsibility within the larger Army.

If Trump wants to be an army of one and take Greenland by force, NATO could dump all its US bonds, and tank the US economy. No shots fired.

Miscalculations are costly.

Jokes are fine if you're "punching up", but jokes from a US ambassador of Iceland on Iceland is "punching down."

Really. The U.S. Ambassador only had a simple role, which mostly entailed keeping his lying mouth shut: represents the US, manages diplomacy, promotes relations with Iceland.

Jokes about religion or national pride often provoke outrage. In volatile regions or periods, even small slights can trigger mass violence or war.

In 2012, an Egyptian‑born Coptic Christian living in the United States created a film called "Innocence of Muslims." U.S. politicians commenting on “Innocence of Muslims” inflamed protests in Libya and Egypt, contributing to attacks on U.S. embassies that killed 50 people world-wide.

During his 2016 presidential campaign, Trump made several widely reported statements about Islam and Muslims, such as claiming “Islam hates us” and proposing a temporary ban on Muslims entering the United States. It didn't kill anyone that I know of, but definitely did not reduce tensions.

Greenland taking over the USA?

Now that would be good for both countries. 😀

Perhaps the EU should respond with

Reducing copyright to 20 years

Removing software patents

Taxing social media companies 25% on EU revenue and goes up to 50% if they have minors on their systems (under 16) paid in ADVANCE.

Taxing US companies say 10% of REVENUE in the EU, not profits, we know how that works. paid in ADVANCE

Tax US brands 10% of revenue so they can not skirt the taxes by saying it is made in China so is exempt.

Block access to the EU for all millionaires/billionaires , no skiing holidays, not yachts in the Mediterranean, No Weddings in Venice....

The EU will hear the screams from there.

The Washington Post - Trump announces tariffs on European countries opposing Greenland takeover

today

A pithy comment from a reader: (one of more than 5,000 Trump-denigrating responses)

"Instead of sending bipartisan pooper scooper brigades around the world, Congress should actually do something to restrain Trumpism."

I second that motion  😉
