UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer may be the next politician taken down by the current Epstein files release.

Prime Minister Starmer appointed Mandelson into the position of USA ambassador. Starmer was asked in parliament if the security vetting for that position showed Mandelson's ongoing relationship with Epstein after conviction. Under questioning by opposition leader Kemi Badenoch - Starmer answered yes, he knew.

Starmer's key advisor Morgan McSweeney who is close to Mandelson recommended the ambassador appointment. There is some pressure to sack McSweeney.

Reuters - In economic speeches, Trump claims inflation victory nearly 20 times even as prices bite

07 Feb 2026

Summary

Reuters reviewed five Trump speeches on the economy
Trump says inflation defeated without acknowledging pain felt by Americans
Trump repeatedly strays from economic argument, shifts to other topics
Republican strategists concerned he is disconnected from voters

In five speeches on the economy since December, Trump asserted that inflation had been beaten or was way down almost 20 times and said prices were falling almost 30 times, assertions at odds with economic data and voters' daily experiences.

Is he what, and I bet you it's going to still be a problem come the midterms.

Although it might seem like a long way away, we're already into February; November will come along very quickly.

But that's not really important. The main thing is that Trump is alive, well and will be around for years to come 🤪

Trump crowned? No faux King way!

With 76% of Trump's term still ahead, a bit of dystopian philosophy. (Think German):

Propaganda travels faster than truth. Each of us has bonds too limited to withstand the scale of manipulation.

Six Degrees of Separation means a lie can touch millions.

Dunbar’s number ensures too little opposition.

American democracy isn’t falling with a roar. It is dissolving quietly, like fly’s regurgitation spreading decay.

You know it's bad when you get a Trump story from Sport Illustrated

Honestly not the best article I've read, but hey "Any port in a storm"

Donald Trump’s ICE Mess Has Spilled Over, Staining Team USA’s Winter Olympics: Sport Illustrated

This week, the United States withheld funding from the World Anti-Doping Agency, and the timing was ironic. All the old pathetic drug-cheat excuses now apply to the U.S. too.

Our president insults and threatens countries that never posed any threat to us. There must have been some misunderstanding. We allow our government to kill innocent people and treat children inhumanely. This is not a reflection of our character. Journalists report on astoundingly brazen, breathtakingly massive corruption. We will not let this define us. Italians hear that ICE agents will be here and immediately start protesting. Please—let’s not rush to judgment.

U.S. Olympians are breathtaking athletes and generally lovely people. They do not deserve to be game pieces for sportswashing, but they are anyway. Meanwhile, United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee (USOPC) leaders do what too many U.S. elected officials do: They minimize and neutralize and act like President Donald Trump is a totally normal and reasonable guy, because saying anything else will cost them.

The World Anti-Doping Agency funding halt is a continuation. Biden did the same thing. Concerns over a previous China swimming team positive test result:

The NY Times - Opinion - How Trump Has Pocketed $1,408,500,000  (unlocked link)

President Trump has never been a man to ask what he can do for his country. In his second term, as in his first, he is instead testing the limits of what his country can do for him.

He has poured his energy and creativity into the exploitation of the presidency - into finding out just how much money people, corporations and other nations are willing to put into his pockets in hopes of bending the power of the government to the service of their interests.

A review by the editorial board relying on analyses from news organizations shows that Mr. Trump has used the office of the presidency to make at least $1.4 billion. We know this number to be an underestimate because some of his profits remain hidden from public view.

All told, Trump has profited by an amount of money equal to 16,822 times the median U.S. household income.

re the Winter Olympics:

James finds out there's a big, wide world outside the US...and not very many people outside of the US actually like him.

Also...this is just pathetic:

Starmer's chief of staff has resigned. Starmer is already unpopular. Labour's polling has declined consistently after the election. Not really surprising because Starmer stands for nearly nothing. Starmer himself is almost certainly the next to go.

Reform is ahead of Labour and Conservative. It's unlikely Labour can recover under Starmer.

Media personality and political strategist Steve Bannon recently issued a warning to the MAGA base about its “massive lack of enthusiasm” ahead of this year's midterm elections.
...
“There’s nothing to talk about. We control the Senate. We control the House. They’re all sitting there wondering we could lose the Senate. Well, step up and do something,” he said. “You have a massive lack of enthusiasm among the base because they're sitting there going 'I'm just not feeling it right now.'”

For once, I hope this bloviating loudmouth is actually right. Roll on November!!
