Goes back at least as far as Cameron Slater and Judith Collins.

I am interested in seeing the tactics employed by political parties in systematically going after the media. National has started going after the voters they have lost to NZ First by attacking NZ First this week and going after the media, and TVNZ in particular.
I feel like I should point out that a state broadcaster using its significant taxpayer funded resources to shut down a story about the conduct of their senior political editor is kind of noteworthy (if that's even remotely close to what has happened or if Hosking is shit-stirring).
At this point I kind of think that's the only relevant angle I care about. Until there is more substantive corroboration as to whether Sherman was provoked (it doesn't seem what she said is disputed but the initial remarks that apparently prompted it are) then I'm not sure there's much more to be said, other than TVNZ possibly having to justify someone who has used that particularly distasteful slur as a senior face of the newsroom to a very diverse staff who might have opinions about that kind of thing in 2026.
As that does not include me, it's not my battle to pick.

Then Nationals tactic is working on you and distracting you from Luxons abject performance. It’s your choice as to what you are interested in, just as it is mine to choose what I’m interested in.

Their tactic isn't working very well because I'm still aware that he's bollocks.

Yes, but you're pretty well aware of things that go on. The tactic works on a lot of other people.

I can only speak for myself, but I find I'm usually able to maintain interest in multiple things simultaneously. If Luxon and Sherman both got sacked, it would be a good day for New Zealand.

Former PM Helen Clark thinks the coalition won't last to the November election.

Correct me if I'm wrong - I'm fairly sure National did not execute a Supply and Confidence Agreement with either of the minor coalition parties in 2023, like Labour did with NZ First and the Greens in 2017 as well as their coalition agreements.
National only executed a coalition agreement in 2023.
If that is the case, and an opposition party leader tables a government confidence vote in parliament, perhaps as early as this afternoon, and NZF decide not to support the government, then the government falls and we head to an early election.

Of course, Clark says she thinks that. She's hardly going to say anything supportive or constructive about a non-labour govt. I'm not saying she's wrong, just biased and possibly trying to agitate.
Clark has more to say publicly on politics, and in general, than any living ex PM and more than Lange or Bolger did post-premiership. I'm not sure she adds much by doing so. Most informed people could guess what she would say on most topics.

Laser focused on the cost of living.
It is one of a number of documents received by the Tribunal on Tuesday as part of a claim relating to the Government’s education reforms.
The letter outlines the Cabinet’s decision to repeal, amend or consolidate nine acts.
Of the nine, five will have their references repealed: the Education and Training Act; Energy Efficiency and Conservation Act; Land Transport Management Act; Organic Products and Production Act; and the Smokefree Environments and Regulated Products Act.
Cabinet has also agreed that sections of the Crown Pastoral Land Act 1998 and the Plant Variety Rights Act 2022 would be repealed and consolidated because of duplications of other provisions in their acts.
Goldsmith and Jones wrote that Cabinet has agreed that Treaty clauses in two other acts should be made more specific.
In the case of the Data and Statistics Act 2020, which requires statisticians to recognise and respect the Crown’s responsibility to give effect to the Treaty principles by recognising Māori interests, they said there needed to be more specificity as to those Māori interests.
Thank goodness they got around to this so quickly after being elected. I can practically feel my pockets getting heavier already.

Why would Sherman being sacked be a good day for New Zealand? What is the negative impact she has had on the country?
Unsurprisingly Audrey Young had the most sensible take I’ve seen on this:
The other issue involving TVNZ this week has centred on a slur allegedly uttered by its political editor, Maiki Sherman, in a minister’s office a year ago in what one colleague who was present said was an ill-judged bit of banter that turned sour (I was there but left before the argument).
I take what may be an old-fashioned view on such matters – that a private argument in a private setting is not news, whether it involves a journalist, a politician or both.
Apologies and regrets were expressed at the time and the issue was settled. Nothing has changed.
I still think the only interesting thing about the whole affair is whether TVNZ has crossed a line trying to protect a senior reporter's reputation over an incident that turns out to be true in the first place.
As an aside, I am still on Facebook for family / work reasons and the amount of 'suggested' pages I am getting shown with clearly AI-generated NZ political content is astounding. It's definitely mostly right-slanted, but not exclusively-right wing. What's terrifying about it is the level engagement from people who appear to be actual accounts. This feels like it has gotten way more prevalent in the last few months than I've ever seen before, even at the height of Covid.
