Thank Christ for that, although given Trump and his predilection to name random crap after himself, it wouldn't surprise me!

This is something I really hope comes true, post-2028 (assuming elections still happen as per usual - especially given that Dominion Voting Systems, who were alleged to have committed election fraud in 2020 has just been sold to some Republican guy):

to a previous tweat "and the world will progress as though Donald Trump never existed"

This is the worst possible outcome. The consequences are already set. The damage is structural, not symbolic. Trump wasn't an accident, but an inevitable vector pointing to systemic decline.

Trump is the ultimate stress test for American democracy. Most loopholes have been exploited (except nukes flying, knock on wood).

America is now an even more expensive political game, pay-to-win, with AI calling the shots in Iran and Internet whales calling the shots in the US.

America has moved backwards by several decades, and may have even reached the ugliness of the early 1960's.

I really feel sorry for anyone under 25 years old. It's worse than bad decisions; it's decades of unchecked malicious intent.

There's a baked in American belief in zero sum games: the belief that someone must lose for another to win. No mutual benefit is possible.

Compromise is betrayal. Institutions are weapons. Opponents are enemies, and every election becomes existential.

Trump is a symptom, not the cause.

Some may find this interesting, from mid June.

Unfortunately New Zealand is missing from the survey.

U.S. Image Declines in Many Nations Amid Low Confidence in Trump: Pew Research

"People across the 24 countries surveyed are divided in their ratings of the U.S. on a number of measures
...
Ratings of the U.S. have dropped significantly in 15 countries since last year."

When I posted that, I did think the last line was a bit of a stretch - even if the orange buffoon keeled over tomorrow, there would be someone (James?) to step in and take his place as leader of the MAGA crowd

Also I think you're right, Trump has done a lot of damage to the US political system; just look at how far apart the divisions are on each side now. True, he didn't cause all the polarisation that exists in US politics today, but he sure as hell had a pretty big hand in making it worse.

Whether Trump's heir apparent (James? Marco?) has the same sort of personality or can draw as much of a crowd as Trump does is a bit more of an open question, IMO.

I'm still hopeful most of it come true, though 🤞

NATO faces a “very bad” future if it doesn’t help clear the strait, Trump told the Financial Times, apparently forgetting that the United States founded the organization and has led it since its creation in 1949. He has also said he is not asking but ordering seven countries to help. He did not specify which ones. “I’m demanding that these countries come in and protect their own territory, because it is their territory,” Trump told reporters aboard Air Force One on the way from Florida to Washington. “It’s the place from which they get their energy.” Actually it isn’t their territory, and it’s his fault that their energy is blocked.

But in Trump’s mind, these threats are justified: He has a problem right now, so he wants other countries to solve it. He doesn’t seem to remember or care what he said to their leaders last month or last year, nor does he know how his previous decisions shaped public opinion in their countries or harmed their interests. But they remember, they care, and they know.

An interesting read about how the orange buffoon insults America's allies, then seems to forget that he did it (or lies about it), then suddenly demands their help when it suits him.

What a pity that people have these things called memories 🤷‍♂️

Well, people except for the Americans who voted him in a second time, anyway.

Saw this on a subreddit that makes fun of Q Anon conspiracy theorists and MAGA.

These people can come up with the most elaborate links between conspiracies, but can't understand one evidence-supported direct link.

Trump hasn't said the quiet part out loud yet. Just switch "people's money" with "soldier's blood".

“There’s nothing like doing things with other people’s money soldiers' blood.”

“I love other people’s money soldiers' blood.”

“It’s called OPM OSB. I do it all the time. It’s called other people’s money soldiers' blood.”

“There’s nothing like doing things with other people’s money soldiers' blood because they takes the risk”

See Do Reptiles Have Emotions? What Science Actually Says

Research over the last decade has overturned the old idea that reptiles are emotionless. Studies now show they can experience stress, fear, and anxiety and basic positive/negative affect such as comfort, discomfort.

Reptiles, while more emotional than once thought, do not empathy especially toward prey animals.

This is a parody. Trump is mentioned frequently.

Alcoa does not operate in New Zealand, but Rio Tinto does, via New Zealand Aluminium Smelters Ltd.

Rio Tinto has faced major environmental controversies across multiple continents, including pollution, water mismanagement, and destruction of culturally significant sites.

The issues span from Canada to Australia, Mongolia, Madagascar, Papua New Guinea, and Brazil. They continue to attract scrutiny from regulators, investors, and affected communities.

Advocacy groups have documented a long history of environmental degradation and labour/human rights abuses across Rio Tinto’s global operations.

You might remember in 2020, Rio Tinto blew up a 46,000-year-old Aboriginal rock shelter at Juukan Gorge.

Rio Tinto/NZAS is a massive electricity consumer. Global fuel shocks already strain NZ’s energy system, so NZAS using 572 MW of electricity under its new long‑term contracts, affect national supply planning.

A Strait of Hormuz disruption is already spiking global oil and LNG prices.

New Zealand relies on imported fuels for backup generation and transport.

With Rio Tinto/NZAS operating at full load, New Zealand has less flexibility to reduce industrial demand during an energy crunch.
