gzt: I thought Trump had already done enough to reduce tourism and business travel. But, apparently not.

He's forever finding a new bottom of the barrel to scrape.

Partner going there in a fortnight to see family, I really hope those ICE thugs don't give her any grief 😠

Probably not but it won't be nice.being in that atmosphere. The 'democrat' cities/states where ICE has scaled up to operate will be the worst places for it. Personally I would feel the need to carry my passport and documents full time in a jacket pocket, which is not a great feeling if you're not far from home and you'd rather be wearing a tshirt. Either way, like so many other people, not keen.

FIFA and the Olympics are screwed, both by the war and ICE.

It would be better to skip these ones and try again in 4 years.

Her state is indeed Democratic, so yes, she will be carrying her passport, etc with her.

Shocking that she has to do this in America in 2026; I've seen at least one commentator likening it to Gestapo tactics - but here we are 🙁

She still has to pass through LAX where the orange buffoon is deploying ICE to cover short staffing at the TSA, apparently - so she may have an encounter with them yet. Hopefully not 🤞

ICE at USA Airports, truly USA does not want tourists, and tourism industry there set for more woe.
Does travel insurance cover treatment or death from gunshots from deranged ICE agents ?

https://www.abc.net.au/news/2026-03-22/trump-threatens-to-use-ice-agents-for-airport-security/106483590

The problem is that TSA is a branch created to enforce safety.

ICE is a branch concerned with brownshirt cosplay security.

Safety and security are completely different things, except for idiots and tinpot fascist dictators.

Already read a couple of reports of people being detained at SFO.

LAX was a hole, and US Immigration a hellish ordeal, even before the Yanks went mad and elected Trump. Scowling officials permanently insulted that anyone would even consider visiting their country. SF was much less terrible.

Hope she doesn't get hassled too hard.

Hard to know where to post this.

FCC Chairman, and Trump sycophant, threatens media with "either spin the Iran war in favor of Trump / Hegseth, or we may not give you a license to broadcast"

@TheDailyShow

Trump's war in Iran is going sideways, and this calls for a bold, decisive attack on the media

TACO!

Except this time he kicked the hornets nest, so only the hornets get to decide when it's over.

It's a lesson for upcoming elections here.

Put people in power who just rant about grievance and cutting Government services and oversight.

You get a government that does not know how to build infrastructure and platform for the future of the country.
They just klepto their way through like they shilled their followers on their podcast etc.

Bankrupt for ideas they turn to paid lobbyists who's only interest is getting a great deal for would be oligarchs.

Unfortunately, social media is made for negative sensational campaigning it gets more eyes and clicks.
Then you end up with people who don't know how to get things done.

re the orange buffoon and his stance on mail-in voting allowing for "voter fraud":

https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/politics-news/trump-casts-mail-ballot-florida-calls-method-cheating-rcna264762

And hilariously, he will now be represented by a Democrat who won the district! https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c9qd7wyln2jo  😁

re ICE being deployed to airports to "help" stressed TSA staff:

(to be fair, a few ICE staff are handing out bottles of water to people waiting)

and finally, there's always a tweet:

Persons unknown getting rich by knowing what Trump was going to say in 15 minutes beforehand.

Insider trading is trading securities while in possession of material, non‑public information. A law allows the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) to bring civil actions in federal court.

The penalty can be civil penalties up to three times the profit gained or loss avoided from the illegal trade.

For a person who controlled the violator (e.g., a supervisor), penalties can be the greater of $1,000,000 or three times the profit gained or loss avoided.

The Department of Justice (DOJ) can bring criminal charges. Criminal penalties up to 20 years in prison.

Republican administrations, especially under Donald Trump, took actions that reduced, slowed, or reversed certain SEC regulatory and enforcement powers.

New enforcement actions fell to 313, the lowest in a decade. This was a 27% drop from FY 2024. Total monetary settlements fell 45%.

SEC Chairman is Trump appointed Paul S. Atkins. pro‑crypto, deregulatory stance

Paul Atkins has dramatically reshaped SEC enforcement by slowing aggressive actions, closing high‑profile cases, and shifting the agency toward a narrower, more business‑friendly, rule‑based approach. The result is the lowest enforcement activity in a decade and a major pivot away from the Gensler-era “regulation by enforcement.”

Did someone know what Trump was going to say?

Trump sent in a mail-in vote, despite being in Florida. Didn't do him any good.

Democrat projected to flip Trump's Mar-a-Lago district in Florida legislature
