Reporters Without Borders releases its annual World Press Freedom Index on April 30.

The United States has fallen every year for a decade. It fell from 49th in 2015 to 57th last year, and the new ranking is expected to be worse.

Speaking of his approval rating: https://www.natesilver.net/p/trump-approval-ratings-nate-silver-bulletin

And yesterday his net approval rating hit a new second term low of -18.8. For historical context, that’s right around where his net approval was at the end of his first term, in the aftermath of January 6th.

It seems this figure is on a one-way slide - downhill. Roll on midterms!

https://edition.cnn.com/2026/04/25/politics/trump-rushed-white-house-correspondents-dinner

President Donald Trump was swiftly escorted off the stage by Secret Service at the White House Correspondents’ Dinner in Washington, DC, on Saturday.

Vice President JD Vance and members of Trump’s Cabinet who were also in attendance were also rushed out.

A source told CNN that Trump is safe. According to an administration official, Cabinet members are OK as well.

I was just thinking earlier today: if this person dies while in office, the Internet will melt down. Forums, social media, streaming - everything will be overloaded.

Reuters - Trump safe after being rushed from White House correspondents dinner, shooter in custody

breaking

WASHINGTON, April 25 (Reuters) - President Donald Trump and first lady Melania Trump were ‌rushed out of the White House Correspondents' Association dinner by Secret Service agents on Saturday night after loud bangs were heard.

Dinner attendees immediately stopped talking and people started screaming “Get down, get down!" immediately after the ‌noises were heard.

Hundreds of guests dove under the tables as Secret Service officers in combat gear ran into the dining room.

Trump and the first lady had bent down behind the dais before being hustled out by Secret Service officers. ...

About an hour after Trump was rushed from the event, he posted on Truth Social that a "shooter had been apprehended."

Clearly if dinner had been 'open carry' and everyone bought their own gun the president would have been safer.

J D Vance wonders if its 3rd time lucky.

The ratings are down! Quick, we need a failed assassination! (I think I've heard this one before)

Yeah, it'll definitely be chaotic until the street parties settle down.

Quoted on CNN https://edition.cnn.com/2026/04/25/politics/live-news/trump-white-house-correspondents-dinner in the last few minutes.

May be I am too cynical, I hope this was not a planned incident.

Now he's busy posting video and pictures to his social media account, rather conveniently, I can just see him asking "is the video ready yet, I really want to get it up on the net so every one can see".

He must be the only president that does not really need a press secretary and who seeks to completely control the news cycle personally himself.

I'm trying to not conclude that this was planned distraction, to distract attention from the other distraction, that was intended to distract attention from something about files.

Hmm.

Very possible. Once again, a shooter misses his very large target.
