You have a military background I believe, and I very much respect your posts. Level headed unlike some here, which also includes me.

IMO despite the horror, long term Japan did end well. Its a non war country, I still assume, peaceful, the 1940's mentality in Japan is over. There was a terrible cost, what might the cost have been if they were left intact military wise?

This may well end in a hot war but it is not there yet. It probably has a greater chance of starting by error as opposed to a deliberate attack.

How much of the worlds economy and manufacturing is based in SK these days? Hyundai and Samsung don't just make cars and phones....

If it all kicks off, the global financial fall-out will be massive. For a very long time.

South Korean government says humanitarian aid (cut off by the previous government) will be separated from political and military considerations:

Korea Joongang Daily: The South Korean government said it was considering an $8 million aid package for North Korea via two UN-backed organs that would help young children and pregnant women, stressing it would keep humanitarian assistance separate from political and military affairs when dealing with the Kim Jong-un regime.

The decision will be finalized next Thursday after a vote in the Consultative Meeting on Promotion of Inter-Korean Exchange and Cooperation under the government's Unification Ministry, which handles South-North affairs. The group is chaired by the unification minister and includes five experts from the private sector as well as the country's 13 vice ministers

Trump has been here for months, I doubt that made any difference at all. KJU wants what he wants end of story

I'm beginning to quite like tdgeeek's "ignore him" suggestion. NK isn't a great threat because even they understand that if there is a shooting war, they cease to exist.

What they're doing to Japan is atrocious, but tiny % of what could happen if the shooting starts

From the same source:

Corticosteroids, drugs to treat inflammatory illnesses including gout, should not be confused with anabolic steroids, which are used to improve athletic performance and muscle building and are normally associated with 'roid rage'.

However corticosteroids can cause serious side effects if taken long-term, including high blood pressure, and psychological problems such as depression and mood swings.

It is not known which type of steroids Kim Jong-Un could be on.

Agreed. The last thing we want is an irrational man like him, holding the countries around him at ransom. He has already shown that he is not shy with his threats. Those threats up until now we have mostly laughed off. It will be a totally different game if we allow him to get to the point where he holds the power. We don't want him in such a position.

We can shut off full supply, the idea being to starve him. The argument is he will erupt. Or Russia and China will supply him.

As per my suggestion earlier which is JUST a suggestion, my opinion, starve him of his main need, publicity. Make it second page news. Let him run his tests and missiles, the US, Japan, and SK can just be silent and bear it. The basis is he wont fire first, the US wont, so no dramas. he can waste his money, and get a lower result. The UN can state an official policy of unhappiness and leave it at that. Then NK will be the only issue, no one else. The US, SK and Japan will be good, keep quiet, keep ready, no exercises. Just let one party be the dick, see what happens. He will crack.

I hear you....but the media doesn't want to and won't. Shutting down his publicity will not work. Remember NK doesnt even have internet. All their media is state controlled and mainly proganda.

Same as more sanctions eg cutting off his total oil supply will not work. He doesnt care about his citizens...he already lets them starve so he can make missiles and nukes. He murders his own family!!! The people of NK live miserable controlled lives. they end up in ghastly prisons just for suspicion of thinking bad things!!!

Military exercises between SK and the US are essential. They arent to provoke NK, they are to practice working together for when NK invades/attacks SK and to protect SK from attack. If the US left SK then it well may happen.

I know it sounds horrid, but what the US did to Japan by dropping nukes was the only way to stop what Japan was doing. If you arent sure what Japan did during the war read some history.

Kim isnt like Hitler....he isnt close....he is way way worse. The west simply cannot let him get weapons of MD.

If you live in NK, you have to have x number of pictures of the great one in your house. You also need not to speak badly of the great one as the great one has spies listening. It makes the NZ election, motorway congestion, and so on, a great option.
