The issue for Chris L is its not fair we are one week in. But the policy isnt.

There's no point protesting the publicly agreed upon policies after Luxon implements them. When exactly does he think people who disagree with him should protest?

In his world? Probably never. https://www.rnz.co.nz/news/political/503955/prime-minister-christopher-luxon-says-maori-protests-against-government-pretty-unfair

"I think it's pretty unfair to be honest, I think the reality is we're in government for a week, we are going to get things going - and for Māori and for non-Māori - and that's what our focus is going to be."

Remove Te Reo from Govt Depts and who cares about the Treaty of Waitangi, yeah thats getting things going for Maori...

As I said yesterday unfortunately Māori have done poorly under the last Labour government over the last six years

Oh ok, so 2016 and earlier Maori's did wonderfully well and it all ended 2017???   As always its all talk and fluff. Campaign mode ended prior to the election but not for Luxon. Given the supposed focus on cost of living, Nicola has been surprisingly silent since she became Minister of Finance. Well, apart from snails and snakes

In some ways, doing the unpopular / controversial things now is actually a smart move. They are only just in Govt and have 3 years to show progress / results on their core policies (economic, health, education, infrastructure), but the sideline bits (removing or repositioning Te Reo in Govt Depts) which will have a much more visible impact than "progress", is best dealt with far away from campaign time. I doubt they will be forgotten by Maori come 2026 (or in particular TPM), but it'll be well down the list of issues for the campaign (particularly IF they deliver on some or all of their goals).

https://www.stuff.co.nz/national/politics/133395740/fiscal-cliff-grant-robertson-and-nicola-willis-clash-over-claims-of-billiondollar-hole-in-treasury-books

The fiscal hole debate rages on. In short, the Budget and PREFU are no secret. Funds are baked in (such as public salaries) some are time limited. So you assess the baked in funding, and the time limited funding and when they end or renew. Its all there except for Nicola.

We should be discussing the chnages made to fix Labour's inflation, health, education etc etc but every day there is more incompetece and heads in the sand and scripted cliche responses that leave the question asked, unanswered

What drives me absolutely nuts here is they go on about how Labour has caused a whole lot of damage and they're "shocked" but have not actually provided a single example yet, it is all soundbites.

100%. The ills we have are often decades in the making, and many countries have the post Covid issues we face. I see the International ratings on education show we are down, blamed on Labour

https://www.newshub.co.nz/home/new-zealand/2023/12/new-zealand-high-schoolers-record-worst-pisa-test-scores-amid-global-decline.html

But if they read the article, it's the same everywhere, often Covid related, and NZ again, is doing ok.

The issue the NZFirst/ACT/National coalition will face, is that if Labour caused everything in the last 6 years, that should be an easy fix(es). But they didnt, so it wont be a fix. NZ will do what we can and we will ride the global wave as best we can, and often we do better than most. There is always room for improvement in anything, but I'm good with that

Education.

So the answer is a Government who will invest in education to get back on track.
Its a system already short of mathematics and science teachers with large proportion having to come from overseas.

Young adult education for those whose final years disturbed and entry into apprenticeships and training.
Companies not taking on trainees in uncertain market they way they were etc.

Oh thats tax and spend and investing in the future.
We only do that for Charter Schools for the few, and roads of significance built with imported trades.
No time to deal with trainees or apprentices.

Labour was still blaming the previous Government six years later. Clearly you have forgotten what it was like 6 years ago?

Yep, blaming the last government is completely fair game. What amuses me is that if the previous government achieved so little, why does it take a whole 100 days to reverse it? :-D

Quoting CL, we will do more in 100 days than you did in the last 3 months. Bit of a LOL 3 months days vs 100 days. BUTTTT, he is not doing anything he is generally undoing things

Now I applaud Mark Mitchell giving expectatations to Andrew Coster, see how that goes. No change so blame Police and Andrew Coster I suppose

Massive difference between an Act of Parliament that simply says "the XYZ Act is repealed" and actually coming up with a whole new XYZ that is reorganised to achieve whatever your aim is, drafting the legislation to specify that, pushing it through Parliament to make it law, and then having the little-g government go through the lengthy process of implementing it.

The former takes 5 minutes. The latter often takes years - possibly multiple parliamentary terms.
