gzt: RFK Jr incompetently wrangles snakes at Dr Oz's beachhouse:

RFK Jr, Don't you have some bad medical advice to give to people or roadkill to consume elsewhere?

Let others handle sore snakes, cranky crocks, rampaging racoons, maddened moose, irritated iguanas.

If you must prove foolishly your manliness, you don't grab snakes with your hands. and especially you don't grab them by the end of their tails. and especially especially don't grab two snakes with two hands.

With large potentially venomous snakes, professionals use a long stick or hook to pin a snake behind the head hard, and with one hand grab directly behind its skull.

And yeah, you wouldn't do that with for a garden, ribbon or junior rat snake that can be handled gently mid bodied. (still a bad idea)

But the best advice is leave it alone and call the a wildlife rescue group, or even better a local herpetology club. They'd much rather you let them handle it, especially if you're inclined to kill the snake.

A snake held only by the tail can easily turn and strike. RFK Jr’s technique invited that reaction. Handling two animals at once is clumsy and unnecessary, and could even be considered cruel as he's likely to injure the snakes.

More than 500 people were arrested after the attack on the Capitol in Washington DC on January 6, 2021.7 Many people have pled guilty and have expressed regret, saying they were deceived. Note that MAGA = Megalomaniacal Authoritarian Greedy Autocrat

The Washington Post - House Democrats announce bill to block construction of Trump’s arch

breaking

House Democrats on Wednesday announced legislation intended to block the construction of President Donald Trump’s planned 250-foot triumphal arch ...

The legislation would explicitly bar construction of an arch on the small island where Trump seeks to build his project, as well as prohibit the use of federal funds for the project.

It would also prohibit construction of a large arch or similar structure on other Washington-area parkland unless the project received congressional approval.

A Brief History of the “Derangement Syndrome” Label

Trump Derangement Syndrome (TDS) - or any “__ Derangement Syndrome” variant - is a partisan insult, not a clinical syndrome.

A quick look at how the term has been used across U.S. presidencies:

I think this is a mistake. It makes the democrats look like a cat chasing a laser pointer. They need to focus on things that move voters, not silly season distractions put up by Trump. The arch will most likely become just another half-finished ruin when Trump takes the money and runs. Let it crumble around him and spend limited resources on making the lives of disillusioned voters better.

AlterNet - Judge tramples Trump's attempt to rename the Kennedy Center

29 May 2026

A federal judge has ordered that President Donald Trump cannot rename the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, nor may he close it for what the Trump administration said were two years of renovations.

The Kennedy Center’s organic statute makes crystal clear that the Center is to be named for President Kennedy, and it cannot bear any other formal name or public memorial based on the Board’s unilateral say-so,” the judge wrote, CNBC reports. “Congress gave the Kennedy Center its name, and only Congress can change it.”

The judicial decision arrived on May 29, the day birth of John F. Kennedy, for whom the building was named in honor.

Average Joe on the street: "Huh, and I thought it was easy for Trump to bankrupt a casino. He really put in the effort to screw up that bad."

Which brings us to the current Trump's presidency.

See "FIFA peace prize", "epic fail", "you had one job", "how do you mess that up?" and "spectacular screw‑up"

This Is Probably Fine!

US 30-year Treasury yields just hit 5.2% — the highest level since July 2007. UK gilt yields are at levels not seen since 1998. Japanese bond yields are at record highs. Something is happening in global bond markets, and it's not just about inflation.

In this video I explain what's driving the global rise in long-term borrowing costs, why the era of free money is probably over, and what fiscal dominance means for central bank independence. I cover the history of US presidents fighting with the Federal Reserve including
  • [Lyndon B Johnson, 36th president of the United States from 1963] LBJ shoving his Fed Chair against a wall

  • the 1970s UK economic collapse

  • the Liz Truss mini-budget crisis

  • the role of private credit and off-balance-sheet SPVs ["Special Purpose Vehicle" used to hold assets, borrow money, or take risks without affecting the parent company, common in risky financing] in financing the AI boom
and what all of this means for the new Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Warsh.

In case you don't have time for the video, here's an AI summary

"Iran‑war has created structural, not temporary, global economic damage:

The Strait of Hormuz is effectively closed, blocking 97% of traffic.

Qatar’s LNG facilities are damaged, with repairs taking 3–5 years.

Helium, fertilizer, and aluminum supply chains are disrupted — commodities with no easy substitutes.

Restarting shut‑in oil wells takes months, not days.

Equity markets are treating the war as a “buy the dip” moment, while bond markets show surging term premiums — a sign of deep stress."

Wonder if Trump has any of this guy's books on his bedside table?

Nicolae Ceaușescu, the long-time communist dictator of Romania, and his wife, Elena, were overthrown and executed by a firing squad on Christmas Day in 1989. Their deaths marked the violent, sudden end of the Romanian Revolution and four decades of communist rule.

The Fall and Capture

The Protests: Mounting discontent over extreme rationing, lack of heating, and totalitarian rule erupted into widespread anti-government protests in December 1989. When military forces began shooting at demonstrators in the city of Timișoara, the outrage spread to the capital, Bucharest.

  • The Escape: On December 21, 1989, Ceaușescu's attempt to address a mass rally backfired as the crowd booed him. The next day, as enraged citizens closed in on the Central Committee building, Ceaușescu and his wife fled in a helicopter.

The Capture: Their time in the air was short-lived. With the armed forces having turned on the regime, the couple was quickly abandoned and captured in the town of Târgoviște.      The Trial and Execution

  • The Tribunal: Held as prisoners in a military barracks, the couple faced a hastily organized military tribunal on December 25, 1989.
  • The Charges: They were convicted of crimes against humanity, genocide, and subverting the national economy.
  • The Execution: Immediately following the trial, both were taken into the barracks' yard and shot by a firing squad. Footage of their bodies was later broadcast on state television to confirm the end of the regime.

Federal judge blocks Trump from officially renaming Kennedy Center

NBC News

A federal judge temporarily blocked President Trump from officially renaming the "Kennedy Center", a big arts and performance center in New York City.

U.S. District Judge Christopher Cooper found the board did not have the authority to rename the facility on its own to the "Trump Center"

US judge halts Trump's $1.8bn 'anti-weaponisation' fund

Not only was the creating of the slush fund illegal, but also his original claim for 10 billion seems to have been fraudulent. Apparently a settlement was reached outside of the court system to avoid digging deeper into his actual claim.
