US Navy denies food shortages after grim photos emerge from US Navy sailors:

Nine News: Yesterday USA Today reported crew aboard the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln and amphibious assault ship USS Tripoli were not getting enough to eat. One photo taken by a Marine showed a mostly empty lunch tray with a single scoop of shredded meat and one tortilla. Another showed a meal of a handful of boiled carrots, a meat patty and another piece of processed meat. Neither would be considered enough to satisfy an average person's appetite. But the Office of the Chief of Naval Operations has issued a statement denying the reports. "Recent reports alleging food shortages and poor quality aboard our deployed ships are false," the statement read. "The US Navy possesses an unmatched logistics capability to sustain operations at sea, and routine menu adjustments are simply how we optimise our endurance to keep our warships in the fight."

Two or three weeks maximum.

Yep so much winning however I do get a slight bit sceptical about the veracity of some data on things like this when I see $124 for a barrell of oil when it's generally been hovering below $100/barrell over recent weeks.

Problem is the price of oil (for example) has been fluctuating so much recently, at the time that image was made it probably was that much. I'll grant you it's less now, but I did hear on the news tonight the worst of the price rises probably aren't over, sadly.

Spot prices peaked at $144 and futures peaked at $126, I don't think the oil prices were actually sustained at $124.

They seem to have cherry picked a price on the oil which then brings about doubts about the rest of their numbers.

When this happens in my opinion they devalue that particular argument and any future items they post are very questionable.

Occupy Democrats seem particularly bad at this.

Mmmm, usually I find they're pretty good. Ah well, it's still interesting the comparison anyway, especially when Trump constantly blames Biden for anything bad going on in the US 🙄

That one there are definitely plenty of examples of (if only there weren't and Trump started owning what he's doing today - Biden's been gone over 2 years now!)

In the USA, nothing is so bad that THE one couldn't make it even worse. 😁

The Washington Post - Kennedy Center orders staff to begin removing Trump’s name

breaking!

The Kennedy Center on Thursday ordered employees to remove President Donald Trump’s name from the performing arts venue, telling staff members in a memo from its general counsel that they have until June 12 to strip all references from signs, brochures, the website and other materials - and to update email signatures and letterhead immediately.

The directive came six days after U.S. District Judge Christopher Cooper ruled that the Kennedy Center’s board had exceeded its authority when it voted in December to add Trump’s name to the center.

Edit:  It will be interesting to see if performers and audiences return to the un-renamed Kennedy Centre.

A Justice Department photo shows Elias Irizarry in a conference room at the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021.

The NY Times - Jan. 6 Rioter Is Hired to Work in Sensitive Pentagon Office

04 June 2026

The Pentagon’s Special Operations office is a sensitive Defense Department branch responsible for uncovering and defending against terrorism plots and asymmetric warfare, and making sure that U.S. commandos have everything they need to carry out their missions.

The office now has a new asset: a Jan. 6 rioter who pleaded guilty to climbing through a broken window at the Capitol, and to other offenses. ...

It was not clear who hired Elias Irizarry, who pleaded guilty to various offenses at the Capitol and was later pardoned by President Trump.

The Department of Defense has a new approach to insider threats: hiring them.

I'm posting this here, because you'll remember this:

George Santos rose to Congress on a web of bizarre lies, fraud, and identity theft. True to Trump's circle of friends, he was one of the most scandal-plagued politicians in modern American history.

Investigation and prosecution lasted about 24 months. The formal prosecution team included at 7 federal attorneys named by DOJ. At least 4 investigative agencies were involved: FBI, IRS Criminal Investigation, DOJ Public Integrity Section, and the Nassau County District Attorney's Office.

Federal investigators spent well over a year on Santos, burning through thousands of staff‑hours

After pleading guilty to wire fraud and aggravated identity theft and receiving an 87-month federal sentence, he served just 84 days before President Donald Trump commuted his sentence on October 17, 2025.

Trump called Santos "somewhat of a 'rogue'" but said "there are many rogues throughout our Country that aren't forced to serve seven years in prison," adding that Santos had been "horribly mistreated" and that the punishment was excessive.

I wrote about George Santos. Then he made a violent threat and lied about it NPR

I was winding down my work day here in Los Angeles when my phone rang at 5:37 p.m. from a blocked number. It was former Congressman George Santos. He was boiling with rage.

The day before, I published a story revealing that the Justice Department and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission had opened investigations into his trading activity on the prediction market site Kalshi.

Officials at the company detected that he was betting against his appearance at Trump's State of the Union address in February, just as he posted a video on X gushing to his followers about how excited he was to attend. With the help of three sources, I was able to confirm that Kalshi referred the matter to federal authorities in the Southern District of New York and Washington.
...
As we were talking, I asked if I could record the call. He said no. I was in front of a keyboard, though, furiously jotting down every word.
...
What Santos said next took me aback, even by his outlandish and brazen standards.

"This story is going to get you a gun in your face," Santos said.

I asked him what he meant by that.

"You know what I mean."

quickymart: heating oil before trump $2.50/gallon now $4.99
...
I forget that in the USA, it's still common to directly burn oil for heat.

Heating oil is rare in Australian and New Zealand homes. Millions of U.S. homes still use oil furnaces.

Heat pumps are up to 7x more efficient than heating oil. They are specialized cold‑climate models.

Heating oil ranks among the most environmentally damaging petroleum distillates. It is a heavy distillate with high carbon content, high sulfur potential, and high particulate emissions.

Trump announces USD$700 million 'national security' subsidy for coal plants including (ahem) a new export terminal. It's the usual mix of wacky made up facts with Trump throwing in an election claim he won all 50 states:
