There seems to be a strange genetic correlation among Republican representatives. Their spines atrophy to non-existence when holding office, only to mysteriously regrow when retiring or out of office. Now I understand why companies always ask for a team player.
Republican senator Mitch McConnell put out a scathing statement today suggesting that Donald Trump’s pick for acting director of national intelligence, Bill Pulte, is not qualified to serve in the role.
“Very few Senate-confirmable positions come with statutory eligibility requirements, There are good reasons why the director of national intelligence is one of them.
Anyone performing this role of such immense public trust must have the extensive national security experience required by statute, and no nominee who falls short of this requirement will earn my vote
When a nominee’s record proves them unworthy of the highest public trust, and when their command of relevant policy falls short of the requirements of their office, the Senate should withhold its consent”
Note McConnell rarely criticized Trump while Trump was in office. After leaving leadership, McConnell has been more openly critical.
Pulte is a businessman. He does not have intelligence or national‑security experience.
