Iranian players have to arrive and leave on the same day.

Well that sucks. Hopefully they can train in a nearby sensible country and get a good flight.

They moved their base to Northern Mexico, so the game against NZ will be a short hop away.
I don't know about their subsequent matches.

And every time there's a game in the USA they have to go through immigration. What a pain. What a stupid thing to do.

Allowing Trumpian USA to have anything to do with a global sporting event (THE global sporting event) shows a lack of common sense and morals.
The stupidest move yet by an already stupid FIFA full of corruption and very much as bad as the Orange Buffoon.

Expect USA to make a "surprise" run to the semi finals while Trump, Infantino and ICE stand outside the VAR control rooms.

A quick Google search says USA played Iran in 2022, with USA defeating Iran 1-0.

Google suggests it's possible that USA and Iran could play each other again this time.

I wonder what might happen at the border crossing ahead of that game should it happen 🤔

The orange buffoon has no patience, so he launches yet another strike on Iran:

https://www.aljazeera.com/news/liveblog/2026/6/10/iran-war-live-tehran-vows-response-as-us-strikes-over-downed-helicopter

In return, the Strait of Hormuz is now fully closed (again) 🙄

What is the goal he's trying to achieve here, sorry? Can someone please fill me in? I've lost track of how many times an agreement is "just a few days away".

https://au.rollingstone.com/culture/culture-news/trump-booed-national-anthem-knicks-finals-game-96493/

Trump got booed loudly at a Knicks game. I guess they really hate him in New York (ironically, his hometown!).

El Presidente Trump fell asleep during a game, or maybe he was just resting his eyes while thinking up more monikers like "sleepy" Joe Biden.

Knick Owner said "I was with him the whole time. We were talking the whole time. He was very much awake, he was very much engaged."

When Donald "the Grinch got nothing on me" Trump attended at Madison Square Garden, the NYPD and U.S. Secret Service ordered the shutdown of the large outdoor watch‑party screens.

When one journalist asked about "the reception you got from the Knicks fans tonight," Trump said he thought it was "great," and "amazing, actually," despite being booed by many in the room.

"You mean when they had the camera on me?" Trump asked as he fumbled over his words. "I thought it was very good, yeah. It was certainly amazing."

He clarified his stance, adding that "it was mostly cheers" celebrating his presence. "It was loud and it was very enthusiastic," Trump observed.

Trump "talking the whole time" during game, and definitely not snoozing.

AlterNet - Trump Needed 22 Specialists at Last Checkup

11 June 2026

It takes a certain confidence to declare a man in excellent health and then assign nearly two dozen doctors to make sure.

According to a medical report recently released by the White House, 22 medical specialists assessed Donald Trump as part of his latest checkup.

That is nearly double the number who saw him for his past presidential exams, and the most specialists to assess a single president on record.

The number was “commensurate with the need to perform a ‘complete and preventive evaluation,’” the White House said. Sean Barbabella, the president’s physician, said Trump was in “excellent health.” ...

We have nothing to hide,” a White House official said. They just have 22 specialists looking for it.

https://www.nzherald.co.nz/world/algae-is-already-forming-in-reflecting-pool-after-trumps-24m-renovation/3IUFUG2GABH2BKKKUC5UJJULTA/

When renovations of the Reflecting Pool in Washington DC were completed last week, President Donald Trump praised its “beautiful, clean water”.

Under his predecessors, Trump said, the pool was “Terrible. Disgusting ... garbage ridden.”

Now, days after the pool was refilled, clumps of green algae have been spotted throughout the water. Noticed on two separate visits to the Reflecting Pool this week, the algae coated several areas of the bottom of the pool - close to the World War II Memorial and the Lincoln Memorial - and floated on the surface.

Such an important spend of taxpayers money...I guess this was probably done by "only the best people" as well? 🙄

22 medical specialist - you may think that's a lot

and yes, oddly it the same number as the current FIFA games: matches are played by two teams of no more than 11 players each on the field.

But there is a difference.

The 22 medical specialist don't get interviewed by ICE agents, and possibly locked in jail, or booted out of the country.

AlterNet - Here's Where Trump's 'USA' Phone Is Actually From

12  June 2026

Remember when Trump Mobile launched its gold-plated T1 smartphone with breathless promises that it was “designed and built in the United States”?

Well, iFixit got its hands on a unit and tore it apart, and the verdict is in: it’s almost identical to the HTC U24 Pro, a 2024 handset from a Taiwanese brand that was seemingly produced in China.

The “differences” amount to a paint job and a few cosmetic tweaks. Same Snapdragon chip, same RAM, same storage capacity.

As for that “American values” branding, iFixit’s analyst put it bluntly: Trump Mobile simply contracted the same Chinese factory that already builds the HTC phone.

Quietly, Trump Mobile has already scrubbed the “made in America” language from its website.

The NY Times - On Politics - Trump’s haphazard midterm leadership

12 June 2026

This week, [Trump] addressed the latest spike in prices, and gave a remark that doubled as a gift to Democratic ad makers.

I love it, the numbers were great,” Trump told reporters. “I love the inflation.”

Cue the (private) Republican face-palms.
