Despite Trump's public statements about Netanyahu during the negotiations with Iran, Trump has not denied Netanyahu even one bullet or one bomb.

Netanyahu has boasted about continued territorial encroachment into Gaza directly contradicting the terms of the ceasefire agreement with Hamas. Likewise territorial encroachment further into Lebanon. There is no real indication Netanyahu has been restrained by any of Trump's purported efforts.

Netanyahu is probably the biggest single risk to the ceasefire and continued negotiations.

gzt: There is potential for problems.

Trump set himself up for failure, because
1) because he an idiot
2) because he thinks he's a genius
3) because he believes it's inconceivable Obama made a better deal than him

Just to be clear I don't like the Iran theocracy

Still I have Schadenfreude for past, present, and future torture of Trump. He's somehow thrown himself free of multiple fishermen's pots, but he not escaping this boiled fish stew.

The Iranians know Trump is very vulnerable due to the upcoming mid-terms.

Sir Basil Henry Liddell Hart was a WWI British soldier who championed the "indirect approach": Get military objectives through mobility, surprise, and avoiding costly frontal assaults.

He coined "give your enemy a dilemma." Put your enemy in a position where any decision they make leads to disadvantage.

Trump has joined the real swamp, Middle East politics, as a permanent member in high-standing.

Saudi Arabia had compulsory hair covering and religious police empowered to enforce it until 2019. Likewise women could not drive in Saudi Arabia until 2019. I'm sure if Saudi Arabia was under sanctions and similarly under attack the compulsory nature of it would have lasted a lot longer. Likewise hypotheticals are also possible for enrichment.

On the other hand women in Iran have enjoyed the right to drive a car uninterrupted since 1940. Women in Iran despite difficulties and with great effort have effectively won the battle to wear hair uncovered in many urban areas. No king required. You can even watch videos on YouTube where hijab wearing supporters of the Islamic government are keen to point out how many women (even the majority) are not wearing hijab hair covering ; ).

Iran just happens to be enemy of the week for Netanyahu's Israel and USA for many years now. Saudi Arabia on the other hand, no issues to see there.

gzt: Iran's deputy FM has said the text will be published after the signing in Geneva

https://www.ndtv.com/world-news/us-iran-to-sign-peace-deal-on-june-19-hold-final-negotiations-during-60-day-period-11636681

Previous statements from Iran indicate they plan to continue charging a coordination and service fee for vessels transiting the strait. Trump says Hormuz will be open with no tolls. There is potential for problems.

The jokes almost write themselves with the orange buffoon:

The NY Times - Opinion - Trump’s Fight Night Was as Absurd as Promised  (unlocked link)

June 15, 2026

"If you found it bizarre, surreal and downright flabbergasting to witness the spectacle of the Ultimate Fighting Championship holding a massive event on the White House lawn, with sweaty men being escorted from the Oval Office to a glowing octagon to go punch each other as the president and his war cabinet cheered them on, you were not alone. ..."

Impossible to summarise. A must-read.  🙃

You also couldn’t miss Polymarket, Total Wireless, CrowdStrike, Riyadh Season, Ram trucks (whose primary ad featured Mr. White, the U.F.C. chief executive, who sat next to Mr. Trump all evening, screaming “Liberty is loud, baby!” while driving a truck)

The fact that none of the parties are releasing text of Geneva agreement of a framework of a pre-agreement, and sending Vance and Kushner to sign instead of Trump, says a lot.

Or possibly "an agreement of a framework of a pre‑agreement of a preliminary outline of a conceptual roadmap of a draft understanding of mutual intention"

Officials are now rolling back on Trump's trumpeting and it's a “framework understanding”, a “pre‑agreement”, a step that authorizes the technical negotiations, not the full, binding treaty‑level deal.

That ain't the snake oil Trump is selling to the public. "Our deal [unhinged old man meandering] is done, subject to final approval with [the other leader] and me."

And "Historic", "Major victory", "We got everything we wanted", "incredible," "major breakthrough."

Trump to English translation: "f__k I've used my best trick 'Look, Behind you!' Can I go back to playing golf and my 2 hour work day and napping?"

I'd expect Trump to throw Vance under the bus when the text is released as Iran continues its slow roast of Trump.

AlterNet - Vance Reveals Trump Lied About the Iran Deal

15 June 2026

Trump is greatly exaggerating his accomplishments in the Iran deal, according to his own vice president.

On Sunday, Trump announced he had fully authorized “the toll free opening of the Strait of Hormuz” and the immediate removal of the U.S. naval blockade. “Ships of the World, start your engines,” he wrote. “Let the oil flow!

Then JD Vance went on CNBC on Monday and was asked about it. His answer revealed that nothing has actually been decided yet, saying that the tolls being lifted was “the sort of thing that we’re going to figure out in these technical negotiations.”

Shortly after, Trump announced the U.S. and Iran had signed a memorandum of understanding. The text is not public. Trump says it might come out “some time after Friday.”

Iran’s Foreign Ministry was even less enthusiastic. Spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei confirmed that fees would still be charged for ships using the strait, and that a “secure passage” would take “a certain period of time” to discuss.

So the blockade lift is unsettled, the tolls remain, and the agreement is weeks or months away.

Ships of the world, stay where you are.

This sounds like Trump's usual bloviating.

Recall his "agreement" to debate another presidential candidate on xyz media outlet during the 2024 campaign, when neither a media outlet nor another candidate had said they were available.

Thanks for sharing. We are seeing idiocracy playing live. Some excerpts that made laugh:

Shortly before the event, Mr. Cormier posted on social media (and quickly deleted) a purported direct message exchange he had with Eric Trump that seemed to feature the president’s son asking if any of the fights were fixed, and if so, if Mr. Cormier could give him some insider tips.

Mr. Hokit celebrated his second-round TKO by exiting the ring, handing Mr. Trump a medallion necklace (which the president immediately put on) and, in his post-fight interview, yelling, “Michelle Obama is a man! Am I right, America?”

Mr. White, the U.F.C. chief executive, who sat next to Mr. Trump all evening, screaming “Liberty is loud, baby!” while driving a truck, and Trump Coins, which offered commemorative coins with Mr. Trump’s face on them and his signature, which the Trump Coins website notes is a facsimile. The coins sold for as much as $12,000."

Marine Traffic certainly doesn't seem to be showing any resumption in the flow of ships - at least not with AIS turned on, which is how they work everywhere else. The big group inside and the big group outside remain in place.

EDIT - and the shipping companies confirm it.

Regardless of the diplomatic breakthrough, shipping companies tell us that they are not changing course when it comes to transiting the region.

“The announced agreement is a welcome and positive development, but publicly available details are still limited, and it is too early to assess how it will impact logistics and maritime operations in the Middle East,” a spokesperson for Maersk told us. “At this stage, there are no changes to our operations in the region.”

A spokesperson for Hapag-Lloyd expressed similar sentiments.

“The latest developments give reason to hope that the security situation in the Strait of Hormuz will improve,” the spokesperson told us. “We are currently reviewing the information available and are in close contact with relevant authorities and our security partners. At this stage, our risk assessment remains unchanged and the Strait of Hormuz remains closed for Hapag-Lloyd transits until further notice. The safety of our crews and vessels, and the security of our customers’ cargo, remain our highest priority.”

The BBC https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/ce8mv6l6eezo is quoting officials as saying the Strait will reopen on Friday.

From that report: "Senior US officials also began giving some details about the contents of the deal, briefing that the Strait of Hormuz would re-open on Friday - the same day the deal is formally inked in Geneva."

Presumably that is this Friday 19 June.

Until then, nothing much moves.

https://www.esquire.com/news-politics/politics/a71593836/white-house-ufc-fight-crypto/

The Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) announced on Friday that it will pay bonuses to fighters in a form of cryptocurrency issued by the Trump family business World Liberty Financial at the heavily publicized White House mixed martial arts event on Sunday.

The development connects the Trump family’s financial interests to the high-profile UFC competition being promoted on government property. The competition on the south White House lawn is scheduled for 14 June, Donald Trump’s birthday.

World Liberty is a venture of the Trump family and the family of Steven Witkoff, Trump’s friend and special envoy to the Middle East. The company is now listed as an “official sponsor” of UFC Freedom 250, the fight scheduled for Sunday. The use of its stablecoin in the fight would appear to boost efforts to have it used more broadly.
