AlterNet - Trump's out of ammunition - and nobody's buying his new 'scary' excuse

06 July 2016

Trump has run out of cards to play in the midterm elections, which is why he’s now talking about the “communist menace.”

He can’t talk about the economy, because prices continue to rise faster than wages, which means most Americans are getting poorer.

He can’t talk about foreign policy, because his war in Iran has been a debacle, his tariffs are an utter failure, and he obviously hasn’t settled the war in Ukraine on “Day 1.”

He can’t talk about immigration, because his raids and mass deportations have become so unpopular.

So, facing the midterm elections, what’s left?

He’s resorting to the oldest of right-wing tropes - accusing Democrats (especially a rising generation of new, young, vigorous Democratic politicians) of being commies ...

Portions of this may have been posted before it is more relevant I believe.

Whilst the difficult we can do immediately, the impossible takes a bit longer. However, miracles you will have to wait for.

Accurate:

It is true that everything Trump touches dies.

Except this. Well, maybe this too: https://edition.cnn.com/2026/07/09/business/trump-freedom-fuel-stations

President Donald Trump is heralding a new chain of gas stations that are selling gas for $3.479 a gallon, well below both market prices and wholesale costs.

“This retailer is taking the lead, and others should follow,” he wrote in a Truth Social post last week, highlighting the July 3 opening of a network of 25 “Freedom Fuel” stations located mostly around Philadelphia and in southern New Jersey. “Gas prices at the pump are dropping …but not as fast as they should be.”

So...(ostensibly) government-operated petrol stations? (Disclaimer: apparently the orange buffoon has a stake in this thing - which the White House denies, but I would take that denial with a very big sack of salt).
If true, it's interesting how every Republican who ever called Bernie Sanders a communist is completely silent right now 🤔

The Washington Post - Trump wants the Supreme Court to reverse its ruling upholding birthright citizenship

breaking

President Donald Trump said in a social media post the Supreme Court’s ruling upholding birthright citizenship is “absolutely insane” and that he’ll ask the court to reverse it.

The high court struck down Trump’s order denying birthright citizenship to those in the country illegally or temporarily in one of the major cases of the term that ended last month.

“I will be asking for a Rehearing by the United States Supreme Court, IMMEDIATELY. This miscarriage of justice will destroy America if they don’t change their absolutely insane decision,” Trump wrote Wednesday on Truth Social.

Trump is unlikely to get the justices to take up the case again, as the high court rarely grants rehearings.

Tantrums are a completely normal way for young children to express big emotions, at 80 year old you'd hope the President has had the chance to develop language and brain development to regulate himself.

Here's an idea: before travelling to Geneva to sign in something official a gold plated ballroom, maybe get some third party advice, from outside your circle of yes men?

The MoU explicitly stipulated that commercial vessels would be allowed to pass "with no charge for 60 days only". This language made it clear that Tehran intended to treat the 60-day window as a temporary grace period before monetizing the waterway.

The agreement mandated that Iran and Oman would jointly "define the future administration and maritime services in the Strait of Hormuz". I know multi-syllable words are a Trump weakness, but the U.S. essentially conceded the strait as territorial property rather than an open international waterway.

Though Trump's memory of who slighted him is impressive, in things that matter not so much. Iran's attempt to formalize control through the 2026 MoU is the culmination of decades of revisionist maritime policy.

Also in classic "does Trump even have feet left after so many self inflected wounds?" the MoU kicked the entire problem of Iran’s nuclear enrichment down the road. It giving Iran immediate sanctions relief and oil-selling capabilities upfront without requiring real, immediate concessions on their nuclear stockpiles. Great job Rubio on leaving little leverage during the follow-up negotiations.

So how was this better than the Obama agreement, I wonder?

In other words only a bonehead would sign something that contradicts the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), and then complain "no fair! you cheated! I'll kill you!"

Granted while you'd expect Iran to have never signed UNCLOS, I guess given "We're the US, laws apply to thee not me" it shouldn't be surprising that neither has US.

Why the US Strategic Petroleum Reserve matters amid US-Iran tensions: Aljazeera

Last month, the United States Strategic Petroleum Reserve (SPR) fell to its lowest level since 1983 as renewed tensions between the United States and Iran raised concerns about the stability of global oil supplies and prices.

US President Donald Trump acknowledged to reporters on Wednesday that anytime the US strikes Iran, oil prices jump.

Another ICE shooting. Imo this one will come down to poorly identified ICE agents and vehicles:

In many places stopping for some random guy pointing a gun and probably wearing a mask, isn't going to be anyone's first instinct.

The Guardian - Trump fires last members of election commission, inciting fears of midterm ‘chaos’

10 July 2026

Donald Trump has terminated the remaining members of the independent federal commission that assists election administration officials nationwide, just a few months before the midterm elections.

The Election Assistance Commission serves as a “national clearinghouse of information on election ‌administration”, accredits testing laboratories and certifies voting systems, and maintains the national mail-voter registration form developed by the National Voter Registration Act of 1993, according to the commission’s website.

The terminations follow Trump and top administration officials’ advocacy to change vote-by-mail requirements and investigations into the 2020 election outcome, which Trump lost to Democrat Joe Biden.

More MAGA chaos.  😧  Next they'll bring out the military to deal with the "emergency".

Trump on Iran deal: "I don't know if we're going to have a deal. We may just do it without a deal, because you know what, it's easier."

Unexpressed Iran on Trump deal: Why make a deal? He has as much interest in us, as Melania has in him. He says he is fully fueled up, but he quickly but out of breath in a minute. We operate like a tractor.

We know our civilian economy is screwed, we have crippling mass unemployment, an unstable currency, and water and electricity grid failures, and those leaders still alive are from the Trumpet Age, so outdated they belong to a mythical, prehistoric era.

But Trump declared war, without actually saying "I declare war", assassinated our past treaty negotiators, and repeatedly threaten to wipe us off the face of the Earth.

We can already play with him better than an Ostad (master puppeteer) with Kheimeh Shab Bazi puppets.

We'll keep his blood pressure so high he'll look like a plate of Sour Cherry Rice. As they say "If you have patience, you can make sweet halva out of green, sour grapes."

We will wait till mid-terms when he's even weaker.

Midterms is not a certainty as Jan6thers wait for their million-dollar compensation payments.
Energized to more actions to assure that Midterm results go their way.
Oath keepers, Proud boys, Evangelicals see they can take any violent action to nullify votes and counting in democrat strong areas so only Trumplican votes get counted.

There may be a result of the 'votes that could be counted' not a result of what people voted.
These are all energized to work in vote counting etc and will do anything to get their way.
Trump has been all 'stop the count while I am winning'

Trump has signaled do whatever is necessary, he has ramped up hate, any opposition are communists and you know what you do with them. So many will feel they have 'immunity' and may get a reward if their action is extreme enough.

ICE getting unheard of protection for a series of killings, non-co-operation with local police etc.
Its a message to Evangelical Trumplicans, like the Taliban you can have it, all yours if you are willing to...

A good dictator for Peter Thiel to hunt down the Antichrists everywhere.

Jesus left the Evangelical temple long ago, now just lord all Smitey.
You keep what you kill.

Nothing seems assured.

wiki: Jim Crow laws

Reuters - Trump officials sought ways to sidestep election agency before firings

Summary

  •     White House and intelligence officials have met to discuss election commission's future
  •     Officials proposed declaring a national emergency and creating a federal task force on voting
  •     Trump's plans for the commission are unclear
  •     Democrats accuse the administration of power grab over elections ahead of midterms

WASHINGTON, July 10 (Reuters) - The White House spent months looking for ways to bypass a federal election agency and use emergency powers to force changes to voting machines, before President Donald Trump ousted its leaders on Thursday ...

Some officials were frustrated with what they saw as the Election Assistance ‌Commission's slowness in updating guidelines for states on voting machines, while some also wanted it to add a proof-of-citizenship requirement to its national mail voter registration form and address other election-related priorities of the administration. ...

It was not immediately clear why Trump decided to force the commissioners out at this time or if they will be replaced.

The agency remains operational, but without a quorum it cannot take up any new business, such as implementing changes to voting procedures or the national mail voter registration form.

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer called the dismissals a “brazen attempt to seize control of our elections before a single vote is cast” in the midterms.

I just pity the voters in swing states or those states that have ICE in their backyard, (Democrat) because you can bet that the likes of the Oath keepers, Proud boys, Evangelicals and other Trump loving idiots, will try their darnedest to disrupt or nullify votes.

Evangelical Americans are not known for that kind of activity and probably don't belong with the other three groups. Also, I'd guess you're pointing towards the white evangelicals rather than evangelicals generally. Black evangelicals predominantly don't support Trumpism at all.

As it happens Trump is starting to lose white evangelical support from a high of 82% down to 69% and probably still dropping from there:

White Southern Evangelicals were among its most consistent architects, defenders, and moral legitimizers.

Their theology, church institutions, and political activism helped build, justify, and sustain the racial caste order of the American South for nearly a century.

Here's a very long, and dense, video on it.

Religious Liberty & Segregation

"This is Session 4 of the Black Religious Liberty Curriculum (BRLC), a 12-part video series of conversations on the intersection of race, religion, and the law, featuring law professors, historians, theologians, religious studies scholars, activists, and preachers.

The curriculum was created by Columbia Law School"

Excerpt: ..."What the "cultural captivity thesis" advanced by Samuel Hill in the 1960s churches?

His idea was that there's a core of Christianity that is not racist but that believes in racial equality is part of the core of true Christianity but the problem for southern churches they are captive to a white supremacist culture.

It's almost as if the white supremacist culture is has got its tentacles in the church and is preventing the church from being its true self.

... We can't pretend that there's a religion that emerges all of a sudden in 1895 [when Southern states began successfully codifying segregation and actively stripping Black Americans of voting rights through poll taxes, literacy tests, and grandfather clauses.]

We have to think about the ways that religion and race have interacted over the long view of American history.

The Guardian - The NATO summit exposed the real source of Trump’s power

10 July 2026

It’s important to understand the source of Trump’s power.

His power doesn’t come from his being president of the most powerful nation in the world. In fact, his arbitrary tariffs, absurd war in Iran, and outright abduction of Nicolás Maduro have reduced the US’s standing in much of the world.

Nor does his power come from his MAGA base, which is now having second thoughts about supporting someone who got the US involved in another Middle Eastern war, caused prices to rise, and whose administration still refuses to release the complete Epstein files.

Nor does his power flow from any kind of strategic brilliance or cunning.

It comes from his willingness to violate all norms, rules and laws - and leaving everyone else to pick up the pieces.

An excellent Executive Summary.   😲

A totally uninhibited amoral sociopath, with dementia.
