Rikkitic:

That sounds a lot more sensible than some of the suggestions here.

I will bite, in a genuine way. I struggle to see how talks can work. I'd prefer talks. But I cannot see an outcome.

To all

Tell me, and others here, how talks can work.

I want to know what the West can put forward towards peace, the West being USA, SK, Japan and the UN

What can NK put forward towards peace?

I know it sounds horrid, but what the US did to Japan by dropping nukes was the only way to stop what Japan was doing. If you arent sure what Japan did during the war read some history.

Kim isnt like Hitler....he isnt close....he is way way worse. The west simply cannot let him get weapons of MD.

I agree. I dont want to agree, but I do. KJU is evil. Iran was one of idiot Bush's Axis of Evil, but KJU is well past Iran. Iran is still a problem, but if KJU is 10/10 bad, Iran is 3/10 at worst. If you struggle to talk to them, but you can thats something, but KJU, thats a non event.

I asked a question for all here, what can the West and NK put forward in talks, for peace. I honestly what to know that. I didn't mention but I hope there are no Trump replies, Trump has NOTHING to do with this.

To all that want dialogue.....as I understand it the only person outside NK to meet Kim is Dennis Rodman, who quoted Kim lives in 7 star lifestyle. No one(official) from China has visited NK in 2 years.

Kim doesnt want dialogue!!

One popular theory is that NK actually want to force unification with SK by force.

According to Al Jazerra, USA is legally still at war with NK. They are on an extended truce after all these years.

We all want peace, especially the USA.

What has happened this year with so many tests cannot continue.

I am in no doubt that Trump is making things worse with his late night rhetoric on Twitter. He is feeding it.

Al Jazerra is correct -

There has been a truce since July 1953.

wiki - Korean Armistice Agreement

The armistice is however only a cease-fire between military forces, rather than an agreement between governments.

No peace treaty was signed which means that the Korean War has not officially ended.

Trump is a dangerously incompetent moron who makes the situation worse every time that he opens his mouth.

Trump has been here for months, I doubt that made any difference at all. KJU wants what he wants end of story

Not only that, but the analysts at 38North.org suspect the bomb tested a couple of weeks ago had been buttoned up inside the mountain for months, ready to detonate at short notice. There was a lot of activity at the site that indicated a test was being prepared and then it all went quiet with minimal activity.

Then a couple of days of increased activity, and the test.

So yes I don't think the last test was directly in response to Trump either.

Perhaps the type of "talks" are the issue here.  If the consequence of not talking is escalation to military action, and that action would involve use by North Korea of WMD (chemical/biological/nuclear) then all alternatives should be exhausted before going down that path.

There haven't really been "talks" at all - since KJU - just threats and counter-threats.

To throw it back - WWYD - and what are the associated risks?

Talking must always be the priority. There is no coming back from the alternative. Both Trump and Kim need to stop the school yard spoilt brat posturing an SSD allow cooler heads and brighter minds take over.

I hope NZ keeps out of any conflict and come forward to help rebuild and win peace.

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

US has strenuously tried to have talks on its own accord and thru the UN, but they arent even getting an answer.

Kim today has said he is going to complete his nuclear program at all costs...that is the answer. He isnt interested in talks as he knows that everyone wants him to halt and dismantle his nukes. he isnt interested. Even China said last week that it will not tolerate NK being a nuclear power.

If the WORLD can live with NK being a nuclear power then their wont be war for a while.

As far as NZ goes, if its a combat type war we are bound to help. and help we must... Kims weapons can reach us as well. NZ should only get involved if UN  requests it. I cannot see any possible war being combat type. More Hiroshima type. But hey, I am probably wrong..it does happen.
