gzt:
Technofreak: Now the police are providing free parking for the protesters. When will this sort of stupidity stop.

This is a sensible strategy to remove vehicles blocking streets without escalating the situation.

Also if the protesters take up the offer, they would be further away from their vehicles. If they fail to take up the offer, they really can't complain about what happens to their vehicles after that.

arcon:

The govt could assume control through military. There's enough mass criminal activity & ongoing risk to public interest to allow for a legal interpretation that would justify deployment, but that would be a huge slap in the face to the police commissioner.

ROFL.. What!?
There most certainly is not.

This is so worth reading: Bill Gates on being Conspiracy's #1 Bad Guy (webworm.co)

And we had fun last time we talked, and some of this stuff is so unreal it’s almost like, “Really? Do I need to track people? Why do I need to know where people are?!

Police release: "The roads need to be cleared now or we will be towing vehicles. Vehicles that are towed will be seized and not immediately released to those who have failed to move them. Those who obstruct Police efforts to clear the roads can expect to be arrested and charged." Notably, statement is in name of the commissioner, Andrew Coster. The Major Operations Centre at Police HQ has been activated and Assist Comsnr Richard Chambers put in charge. "What’s clear from int'l experience is that there is no easy resolution to protests of this nature."

Glad the Police are now being serious and this is how the protest ends. Can see the majority of the protestors jumping in their cars and then resisting and getting themselves arrested.

Agreed. People should read the article today in the Herald which quite calmly and sensibly explains what should be obvious to most, that a massive show of force would backfire stupidly.

Cause the stand back and be a bunch of pussys is working so well.

My grip is quite fine thank you, I could care less what other people think they have handled this thing bad from the beginning.

Tail waging the dog.

Would you mind if I set a protest up on your lawn for the next 7 days and when you called the police they just said no worries we will just stand back and see what happens.

I wouldn't be carrying on like a lunatic, that's for sure.

Some of the responses to this protest concern me far more than these protesters do.

People seem unhinged.

Whatever tactics are deployed, expect them to be deploy at any future protest you may or may not support.

And if I was in that area and being abused by them I would be feeling unhinged as well.

I never said to act like a lunatic, But they should not have kept the stance of just sitting back and hoping rain and some music would make them go away.

It has been handled very badly in my opinion.

Yup I agree the front line cops have done a good job but they are just following orders from above.

It wasn't those people I was referring to.

In the grand scheme of things, these protesters are doing very little harm, despite there being some isolated (and totally unacceptable) threats and nuisance, there has been no storming of the grounds, actual violence or much really to write home about. Most countries would laugh at this as a protest. They fall into the annoying rather than truly dangerous category and this will be why they have been given the leeway they have.

Hopefully, they roll on out shortly, but the world is still spinning and country is still running.
