I also sometimes wonder if Luxon (or even Bill English, if he had been in charge) would have also be subjected to such vitriol. Yes, I have seen some abuse directed at Luxon as of late, but nowhere near as bad as it was towards Ardern.

Interesting article about CH's chief of staff and lobbying in general.

PM’s chief of staff lobbied against liquor reforms now binned (1news.co.nz)

Amazing in this day and age that there is no register of lobbyists in NZ.

Calling someone a "Dictator" or other silly names is pretty mild.

How about Key? Crowds incited at concert into mass "F*** John Key" chants. A popular artist wrote a song about raping John Key's daughter. People have been convicted and jailed for death threats against Key.

It is not just Jacinda Ardern.

Love how stuff like this drops to near total silence.

For the 'National's rich mates' crap we hear in election time, increased transparency around this area doesn't seem to be a high priority for anyone in Labour.

Gut feeling is that the cancellation of the policy and the lobbying against it are coincidental. However it is a matter of perception here - Caesar's wife and all that. It is public office and public money so has to be whiter than white.

Major shareholders in the lobbying firm Anacta include Stephen Mills and David Talbot, of Talbot Mills polling. Both individuals have long Labour affiliation having worked in both Ardern and Hipkins Labour offices. Hipkins and Ardern should never have had dealings with them.

Didn't the Green Party introduce something into law years ago?

While I do get frustrated at the constant need to gender the issue of domestic violence (the responses should be appropriately gender-tailored, the actual issue is an all-of-society one, it just plain shouldn't happen at all), I hardly think her statement rises to the level that she should be expected to resign. Her choice of words on that topic were poorly chosen (especially since as it was a trans rights protest, it didn't need mention at all), but given the circumstances I think we can give that a bit of leeway. Hipkins response was a pretty diplomatic way of saying "I don't agree but..."

Blaming white cis males for causing all violence is her free speech. However is she subject to cabinet rules which insist that cabinet ministers abide by certain standards given she is a minister outside cabinet?

But seriously, what would happen if David Seymour blamed all violence on black lesbians? He would be last seen tarred, feathered and ridden out of town on a rail. Davidson is being held to a different standard despite being a minister.

I don't think Davidson needs to be fired. But I also don't think anyone of sane mind would vote for her or a party she represents either. What would Rod Donald or Jeanette Fitzsimons think of the 2023 Aotearoa Green Party?

You'll know she's walked that back if you've read any news today. Davidson was trolled by a content network known to be friendly to the white supremacist fringe. Sadly and predictably they will make the most of it.

Both would be enormously proud of it. The Green Party has a far more diverse group of supporters and has steadily increased it's support in many different areas.

She vaguely sort of half walked out back because she was told to. In between she allegedly doubled down on it. Her excuse about being in shock is ludicrous. She was bouncing along and grinning when she said it.

The audio you linked is clearly from earlier prior to the walkback.

Her excuse about being in shock is ludicrous

Not at all. It's entirely understandable. Being hit by a motorcycle handlebar in the guts is going to have an effect on anyone's composure for several hours, at the least.

I expect she might have politely told the Counterspin YouTuber 'not interested, go away, thank you' or something similar in better circumstances.
