There appears to be a real problem here. Andrew Little was also quoted yesterday that Immigration was very hard for him to deal with as the minister. Stanford has accused the ministry of what amounts to fraudulent behavior in hiding things from the minister. While Winston is likely just doing his normal bluster and BS routine if that is the case it could well result in prosecution.

Wouldn't a person have to have gained financially, or helped someone else too, for it to be fraud?

Successive govts might also want to ask themselves: What sort of governance creates a culture where people would rather go to outrageous lengths to hide things that go wrong, than escalate them?

The Platform has live streaming on its website. I am of the view that this is broadcasting, like any linear TV or radio show would be. In all these cases, the transmission is made available to anyone, and it's not on demand as it is a live transmission - so you watch it at that time or your miss it, unless you watch a recording later.

This is in contrast to Netflix, which is on demand because there's no set time and is only available when the person takes action to select it at their time of convenience.

I agree there is distinction between something that is streamed live, and something that is streamed on demand.  However, there is still the element of choice ... go to that website, click on the stream.

And how is that different from TV or radio? One has to turn on the TV, then explicitly change to the channel to watch. Same with a radio broadcast. One turns the radio on, then changes to the station they intend to listen.

I still think if something has a LIVE option that is concurrent with, you know, live human beings talking, then it's a broadcast. It doesn't matter if it's radio, TV or the internet.

Hec yeah. I just sent my boss an email that said essentially, here is a risk trade-off above my pay grade, your problem now kthanxbye. And I know that it will be dealt with, because we can trust each other all the way up the chain and back down again. Cannot imagine working in the kind of culture above.

Luxon at the Christchurch airport freight terminal expansion ribbon cutting.

"It's a fantastic place and we want the South Island to continue to grow and continue to have that real momentum."

Luxon also toured DHL's freight warehouse and cut the ribbon for the freight apron.

"This is an outstanding and critical piece of infrastructure for New Zealand," he said.

"We need this airport to unlock the growth that sits in the South Island."

Yeah, they certainly do now. Thanks, Nicky Noboats!

The difference is you have to click the video for it to play (unless you foolishly have autoplay turned on).  With TVs and radios, you just receive whatever content they program. When you change channel/station, you don't know what you're going to see/hear.

Is this airfreight terminal for interisland freight, or international?

When I click to see a live video on a service like that I don't know what I am going to see either.

I think you are grasping so I will leave at that.

Are your FUG breaches the same as Winston misleading the house? Asking for a friend 😉.

Almost certainly! Except I never call people "sunshine". Given some of the other stuff he comes out with you'd think Winston could do better than that, too, to be honest.

Serious answer? Article doesn't say but the presence of DHL and Fedex strongly suggests international. Either way it will take some more pressure off interisland freight if more if can leave the country directly.

You should know to some extent because you went to specific website and it has a title.  Unlike switching to a channel and seeing what is on (probably ads 🤣).  It's clear distinction in my mind in any case.  But we don't have to agree.

Not sure why you feel the need to describe someone as grasping because they disagree with you, but OK.

As I understand it fraud can be for personal or financial gain. One could claim personal advancement to be personal gain.

It’s a long bow of course. The more likely charge would be falsification of documents which carries up to a 5 year jail term or $200k fine.

Wow.  That's pretty serious.

I wonder if Peter's has pre-emptively handed any potential defendants a claim that any prosecution is politically motivated, or that it's impossible to get a fair trial.  Ministers are usually careful to avoid making comments like that.
