It's already forgotten that large numbers of people couldn't stand JK or JA from day 1.

And the bottom line is the current bunch won so poke up with it, criticise away for the next three years, then vote for someone else.

Personally I liked JK, JA made my skin crawl and I can't stand Luxon. Some of the new policies I like, some I don't. It's called democracy.

Not really. Most of those that couldn't stand either, were aligned to the other party, so that's normal.

Well, the who is normal (be a bit weird to hate the Prime Minister of your own political leanings), but not how many. Like, I wouldn't say JK was my favouritest Prime Minister in the whole history of Prime Ministers but I didn't go bug-eyed and foaming at the mouth whenever his name was mentioned. He did some things I thought were good. He did some things I didn't. Whereas the hate for Jacinda Ardern was a whole other level. If you were in that camp, you thought the entire government was sent straight out of the gates of hell to ruin your life, personally. It wasn't normal.

EDIT: Now, Max Key - he can get in the sea. Talentless rich kid skating by on daddy's fame & money. But John Key at least really did work his way up from nothing and deserved to be where he was.

Somehow the image of Luxon being F'd over by Peters and Seymour doesn't seem that strange to me.

Good points. Few "hate or loathe" a PM, its just the wrong party that's all. Buy yes, the hate for J Adern was off the planet, borderline cult mentality

She was a woman. That seems to be all it takes for some people. Regrettable.

There was actually a story about exactly this in the Herald a few days ago: https://archive.ph/zUEMr

Some very good points made here, but of course Tamaki et al are so blinkered by their own little world, all they can see is "woman in charge = bad" 🙄

I'm sure it's a factor, but it was never that severe for Helen Clarke or Jenny Shipley.

For my mother (who has a deep hate for her) it wasn't about her being a Woman but a successful one who was seen by the world as a very successful leader.

Lets say I got in a few fights with my mother over it.

Things were different back then - no Facebook for one (or it wasn't as popular, at least), so far few "keyboard warriors" and any that were around had far less of an impact. It would also have been much more difficult for the likes of Tamaki, VFF, etc to organise protests too.

Plus I guess things just were a lot less politicised back then. Trump came along and made things more tribal, IMO.

Physical appearance also has to do with it for people who think that way. She is slim, youngish, not imposing or matronly. Just the kind those with puerile instincts cannot accept as a pack leader.

Social media made things tribal. It makes it easy for groups of people with the same opinions to form and so validates and reinforces their opinions. He just exploited it.

Maybe manner and presentation has more of an impact. She always felt like a lightweight to me possibly due to her lack of experience so I tended to dislike the lauding of her as I didn't think she deserved it, especially from abroad.

The problem is that around the world there haven't been many women in the top positions of power so there are few to compare her with. And like most leaders they come to be disliked in the end anyway.

Someone like Michelle Obama strikes me as having the right sort of manner but of course she never had to run a country.
