CNN alert just received. Next week he will be announcing new security measures to keep the US safe.

So, he has lost his ban battle. Or, he actually got some proper advice for a change. Or, he will now take heed of the proper advice he got before, that he ignored.

A good plan is to take measures that are constitutional, legal, and non racist.

I see Hillary tweeted "3-0"   Priceless

People can find polls and statistics to back up whatever they want to believe. My sister lives in the States and her reading is that most people are thoroughly fed up with the Trump circus. Some quotes from her email:

'Much of what's being talked about or printed is in the vein of - can you believe he did this idiotic thing? The latest thing is that he supposedly phoned his national security advisor at 3 am to ask if a strong dollar or a weak one was good for the markets.'

'No doubt, there are a lot of people with a lot of influence over what gets into print that don't like Trump and wish he hadn't been elected. However, knowing that many people internalize their own beliefs based on what they hear that they *should* believe, I think the overall opinion is negative.'

'Other headlines I've noticed are companies discontinuing carrying Ivanka Trump something or other, I think it was related to some fashion line she had that a store decided not to sell anymore to distance themselves from her? I'm not sure, just that it added to the sense that everyone wants to be as uninvolved with the Trumps as they can.'

'CNBC and Bloomberg seem to try and discuss things in a more rational manner. CNBC reports on things like how the business and tech communities (since Silicon valley is relevant to the stock market) are responding to Trump's travel bans, since many of their employees come from the nations Trump wants to block travel from. And of course, there is lots of concern about how new trade rules will impact companies, and talk about NAFTA and Dodd-Frank and other things I've heard of but don't know anything about.'

From the above link:

This is a time for serious people to face our most serious problems, and meanwhile this guy signed the order to appoint Steve Bannon to the National Security Council without knowing what he was signing.

That's what political scientists call "bonkers-level horrifying."

Interesting Trump Article with a slightly less hysterical liberal viewpoint than many here.

Asked yet another American - 100% trump all the way. No questions. You guys' American friends must be from a different planet? Or mine are

I tend to agree that Trump's actions may be a little more clever than many think. History tells us that it is inevitable that at some point in the future there will be a terrorist attack of some form on US soil. And when it does happen, Trump will push the view that he was right from the outset and, maybe, use this to start disassembling some of the historical checks and balances around the use of Presidential power.

And in relation to the above:

  • I find it worrying that Trump is spending a lot of time early on telling the military and law enforcement that they are under-appreciated and that he has their back.
  • I find it worrying that outrageous behaviour from Trump is accepted as ok starting to be 'normalised'. For example, a President that tells outright lies, and people are ok with this.

Your notion of 'liberal' amuses me. I notice all your press quotes come from the Telegraph, hardly a bastion of balanced reporting.

Trump has supporters. No-one questions that. After all, he got voted into office. But don't forget that America is a country of over 300 million people. It depends on who you ask, where you ask them.

Report on CNN says some parts of the 'golden shower' intelligence dossier have now been confirmed as true. None of the salacious bits, just some conversations between various foreign subjects, but the fact that these confirm what is in the dossier does lend credibility to the rest. It may well be true, though that is not yet proven.

We had some friends out from the USA this week, they were amazed at the level of hysteria (their words) in this country about Mr Trump. They felt that kiwis seemed to be more concerned than average Americans.

Here is a crazy notion, lets give peace a chance.

The Torygraph used to be a decent right wing paper, but the last 10 - 15 years have seen a marked decline in that standard. In any case, they did not write the article - an American journalist did.

I agree with that assessment. I think it is because there is nothing happening here....

Time will tell, but I'm calling it now ...

The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing.
