Interesting Trump Article with a slightly less hysterical liberal viewpoint than many here.

I tend to agree that Trump's actions may be a little more clever than many think. History tells us that it is inevitable that at some point in the future there will be a terrorist attack of some form on US soil. And when it does happen, Trump will push the view that he was right from the outset and, maybe, use this to start disassembling some of the historical checks and balances around the use of Presidential power.

And in relation to the above:

  • I find it worrying that Trump is spending a lot of time early on telling the military and law enforcement that they are under-appreciated and that he has their back.
  • I find it worrying that outrageous behaviour from Trump is accepted as ok starting to be 'normalised'. For example, a President that tells outright lies, and people are ok with this.

I agree that there is far more to this, and the media is simply playing into his hands. The thing is that anyone can say anything, whether it is correct or not. By the time it has been checked and found not to be correct, things have moved on, and people have already made up their mind. This is the way the media currently works in the fast paced media world.

There are also going to be mass shootings which will probably end up killing far more people, but I don't see him wanting to ban guns. Infact isn't he and the republicans more for the opposite?

Thanks for the share.
I found this two part doco on recent American history told from a liberal perspective interesting:

We had some friends out from the USA this week, they were amazed at the level of hysteria (their words) in this country about Mr Trump. They felt that kiwis seemed to be more concerned than average Americans.

I agree with that assessment. I think it is because there is nothing happening here....

From "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert"

Stephen Colbert: "Here's something from the New York Times: 'Trump, who does not read books, is able to end his evenings with plenty of television.'

If only 'West Wing' was still be on, could he learn to be President of the United States"

Meanwhile in NZ ''A 27-year-old woman has been arrested following an alleged racist attack on a woman in Huntly which was caught on video.

Mehpara Khan, 28, was on a road trip with friends yesterday when a stranger approached the group, who had stopped for a toilet break in Huntly.

Khan said racial abuse was hurled at the group and a can of beer thrown at them.

Police said in a statement this afternoon that "following an incident in Huntly" yesterday, a woman is in custody. She is facing charges of assault, assault with a weapon, and using offensive language.

She will appear in Hamilton District Court tomorrow.

Police said that after being provided with video evidence, staff "acted quickly" to make an arrest.''

As reported by the Herald and Stuff. 👍

I know the "Rolling Stones" magazine isn't the best political magazine, but they did have a funny story about Bill Maher's Real Time.

I've written two BSc final essays for people and they passed... I don't have one myself.

And Ms Conway seems as intelligent as my dog. Bowling Green massacre, Ads for Trumps daughter on TV.. real effing intelligent.

Again degree /= intelligence, as much as you want it to.

Do you see the irony in a thread that is currently discussing honesty, that you admit to being complicit in someone fraudulently gaining a BSc?

I really don't give a crap about your irony... I also don't run, or advise someone on how to run, a country.

One of them died many years ago, if you really want to go and tell someone.

And considering you don't know who I am, let alone who the other person is, you can take your moral high horse for a long jump off a short cliff.

I apologise unreservedly for touching a raw nerve. I couldn't care less who you are and who you 'helped'. The chip you bear for intelligence vs qualification is, sadly, something you don't bear alone. The point MikeB4 was making is that Ms Conway is no slug. She may be misguided, but she isn't a hillbilly without a formal education either.

Edit: And perhaps revisit the FUGs about personal abuse.

I just heard someone on CNN (Wajahat Ali) say that when Trump spoke to the CIA, he pointed out that it was raining before he started, then the sun came out while he was speaking, then it started raining again when he finished. He could have been making a joke, of course, but the suggestion is that he was completely serious. This in the context of his mental health, which is starting to be questioned in the Senate.

This is getting really silly now. The press need to start reporting professionally and without bias. The psychiatrist that are making diagnostic statements not having met with the man over several sessions are acting unprofessionally and breaking a long standing rule (Goldwater). Senators are not the ones that should be making such diagnoses either.

Trump doesn't like CNN, so watch out for the banning of CNN soon ...
