This will just fragment the left vote even further. Excellent.

Irrelevant. It doesn't matter how much you fragment the left, they'll all come together in a coalition irrespective of how their numbers split.

Relevant. All he needs to do is grab some of the centre swing vote as well and National is in trouble.

Of course, 5% is a tough ask ... but then he does have a prominent public profile

"I think that New Zealand is really not fulfilling its potential. I see things like the level of inequality that we have got ... obviously poverty ... and the latest in this saga is the falling affordability of housing.

"Which has got to the point now where I would have to have doubts if this continues if my grandkids would be able to rent let alone bloody own a house."

Come on Garath somehow i dont think your Grandkids are going to struggle to buy a house.

Yep - fly-fishing - and then punch the first TV journalist who comes looking for you. Been done before.

Aside from getting rich courtesy of his son, has he ever done anything of note that is relevant to running a country?

I prefer to look at it in a glass half-full way. He wants to contribute to political debate in society and maybe even have a go. A healthy opposition is what differentiates us from Russia etc. He's as qualified as any of the farmers, doctors, businessmen or money traders we currently have.

He's standing up for what he believes in . What that actually is, we don't quite know yet, so at the moment he's just standing up. For an apathetic country, that makes him an over achiever :-)

You don't have to vote for him if you don't want to.

You should probably say courtesy of Fairfax, otherwise you better start degrading all the mum and dad investors for riding Rod Dury's coattails.  In all seriousness this man has a lot more in common with Kiwis than you all make out.  He has been talking about equality for years, and he brings a new perspective to politics.  Did any of you watch the 15 minute press conference?  The first 3 minutes was him introducing the concept, the rest was reporters asking questions.  He/his party will not stand as electorate MP's, they will get a 5% outright or go home.

If we take the 'cat' issue reasonably his ideas around them were conservation based, but all that is reported is about how he wants to kill everyones cat; which is an absolute sensationalisation of the key point - conservation.

Mark my words - he will resonate with under 35 year olds, and like said above will 'steal' from both partys, not just the left.  How many who have commented about him own there own home?  How many own more than one home?

Apart from the cat thing he's no different fron plenty of other partie. And he's wealthy, seems most people who have more money than others is looked down on by people. So that won't help him resonate with the voters.
